"Ah, sorry," he says, a touch awkward. "But-- that's a thing that's been happening for the last decade here, apparently. People from other worlds--other timelines or dimensions, what have you--have been suddenly arriving to this one, usually over the weekend. Never too many at once, I think. I'm told that the god of this world brings us here."

"The god of this..."

Melissa doesn't even bother to recap the rest of it, reaching up to rub at her temples. Honestly, maybe it's a good thing she's used to weird shit, otherwise that might break her. "Please tell me," she says dryly, not yet looking back up at him, "that there is some alcohol in this fucking place so I can properly cope."
fingersandteeth: (lean forward)

[personal profile] fingersandteeth 2020-06-14 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Of course," he promises her. "All the alcohol you'd like. You won't have been paid yet, but I can take you to a bar with training's done for the night. Though-- hm. Were you in your street clothes or your pajamas when you woke up in the dorm room? Because honestly, you don't want to wear these uniforms when you're not on the job. It just makes you a walking target for people's aggressions."

"Street clothes, thankfully." PJs became less of a thing when she less 'slept' and more 'passed out in a dark basement'. Though, she does have to address the rest of it too. "That bad, huh? I mean, given the spiel, I'm not sure it surprises me. They don't seem to be... subtle."

i guess i'll try and figure out what it wants

[with great reluctance]

Such a shame, then, that I don't care what sort of an impression I'm making under these circumstances.

It probably won't, no. The ones I've encountered have been rather loyal, even if we haven't always seen eye-to-eye on everything.

Sometimes it will say in the Pokedex thing. But I think those mostly contain only those Pokemon you've seen and... scanned? with it, so that's not always helpful.

[Cassandra had found out that two of her Pokemon could evolve when they evolved.]

There's also a Training School in Violet City that has information. From what I've there, it's more common for Pokemon to evolve than not to.

"They aren't," Steven says bluntly. "At all. The most subtle ones you'll find are likely the rest of us from other worlds and we're not always especially subtle. Just much more subtle than the locals."

"Joy." Melissa sighs. "How the fuck are they still in business?" Back in her world, anyone that obvious would have been caught by now. She hopes.

i see

thanks. i might want to check that out, assuming they generally know stuff about all this

"Mostly because while the local grunts and privates are screwing around being incredibly obvious, the admins and other higher ups--who can do subtle even if their juniors can't--are busy getting their sticky fingers in as many pies as possible," Steven explains. "We've got the Radio Towers in Goldenrod and Lavender both, Silph Co, and the Game Centers, among others."

I think one of the other regions has a library, but I don't know if the larger cities in this one do.
stopinthenameofawe: (Melissa [Oh really])

[ugh libraries]

i think hands on training would suit me better
fearinahandfulof: (Shock)

[personal profile] fearinahandfulof 2020-06-14 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It's mostly better for me too

[It's just that this world has so many things she doesn't understand.]
stopinthenameofawe: (Melissa [Hold on a second])

[personal profile] stopinthenameofawe 2020-06-14 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Holy shit." That is... well, she doesn't know how important any of those things are in this world, but it sounds more like high scale corruption than just a stupid little operation like she'd assumed. Which might be how most people thought of them, which would make them seem less threatening generally... "Wouldn't have guessed that. Which I imagine is the point."
stopinthenameofawe: (Default)

[personal profile] stopinthenameofawe 2020-06-14 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
guessing you've been around the school a fair amount? what's it like?

[personal profile] carbonatedscientist 2020-06-14 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Possibly because the results of what would happen were we to venture out into the tall grass without them wouldn't be pretty, and they don't want to live with the weight of that guilt.

what are tics like poisonous or something in this world

That's entirely possible. They may also be two feet tall and able to breathe fire on top of that; I haven't had a chance to properly go over all the different species yet.
fearinahandfulof: (Missed)

[personal profile] fearinahandfulof 2020-06-14 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It's taken some getting used to.

[Because Cassandra's experience with "training" had been very different.]

There are a lot of different classes about things like breeding Pokemon and bonding with them, and a lot of classes about battling specifically - Pokemon types, moves, resistances and weaknesses, and things like that. Those classes tend to include actual battles as tests.

Has anyone told you about battles yet?

"Mmhm," Steven says. "I was actually pretty impressed once I realized the extent of it. It doesn't mean that most of your average local Rocket grunts aren't basically mooks, but." He shrugs. "Speaking of which, if you're looking for work after Training Hell is over, you usually can usually get a job through the team, although I suspect Security--which you implied was your old job?--I suspect Security is one of those positions you have to make Beta to get. And good luck doing that in less than nine months."
