O-Bon festival: The streets are lined with NPC-run stalls for food, games, and the assorted tchotchkes of every summer festival you’ve ever seen in your animes! There’s Goldeen Scoop, heaping cones of Swirlix Candy, Test Your STRENGTH (there are two different machines for people and Pokémon; HM04 not required); basically, if you can think of it, it’s there. There will also be a yukata rental stall if you want to go full hog on the cultural side of things. Ecruteak boasts a small stage where the Kimono Girls give a short performance once every two hours; the festivities in Lavender Town are a little quieter, but they also have Haunter-shaped ice cream treats. When you lick them, they Lick you!

On the last evening of the festival in either location, there will be a large bonfire and traditional bon-odori dance in which everyone is welcome to participate. In Lavender Town only, they also set paper lamps afloat in the water past the cliffs.

Who you gonna call?: Remember “The Ghost of Maiden’s Peak”? Well, some of the local Gastly, Duskull, and Yamask seem to have gotten it into their heads that this kind of tomfoolery is somehow good medicine. If your trainer had someone in their life, someone now dead, that they have unresolved business with, these ghosties may take it upon themselves to play a little dress-up and follow your trainer around in the guise of said dead person until the issue is resolved. It’s their way of saying thank you for all the spiritual appeasement of the festival.

These ghosts won’t speak; Pokémon don’t talk, after all. So yes, your trainer is going to be followed around by some silent echo of their past who will not leave them alone.

[ Here's Madoka in a yukata, and she's pretty much everywhere. It's been a while since she's been able to really enjoy human life, and she plans on making the most of it. The Happiny on her shoulder looks pretty happy about everything, too, especially since her trainer is so enthusiastic. She's trying out everything--Goldeen Scoop, the ring toss, Whack-a-Diglett.... Chances are, if there's a game, Madoka's there to try it out.

She's also curious about a lot of the food, especially the sweet stuff! She's having some trouble deciding what to get, though, so maybe lend her a hand? ]

[ ... And here's Madoka looking pretty distressed as she flicks the video feed on. Right next to her is a girl whose expression is a complete contrast to Madoka's: She looks serene, collected, and Madoka's only getting more upset by the second.

Her Happiny looks pretty unsure, herself. ]

I haven't been here very long, so I can't be sure... Is it really normal for weird things to happen here? It isn't like Mami at all to not talk to me, and I'm really worried something bad's happened to her...

[ homura is here, of course. madoka is not someone she would leave on her own for too long, but she keeps her distance. it's not obvious she's got one eye on madoka, but she makes sure that she does. even if they're here, that doesn't mean she can't or shouldn't keep her safe.

also, she is not in a yukata. she has no idea how to put one of those on and besides, she feels it'd weigh her down. she has to keep up with madoka, after all! she's a busy girl, flitting from game to game like this.

... and honestly, homura isn't usually the type for games, but she's quiet enough that joining in for a round of ring toss is easy enough. she wins the round and is rewarded with an overly large plush toy.

she has no use for this thing, and immediately regrets joining in - it only keeps her from moving forward and keeping madoka in her sights, so she has to rely on her misdreavus to give her directions from time to time.

tis the season, supposedly, for tricks. her devious pokemon manages to direct homura in front of madoka, so she ends up staring at the other girl, a giant toy in her arms.

homura blinks. ]

Take it.

[ the giant plush. it'll make you easier to keep up with, madoka. ]

[ It's not until Homura literally materializes in front of her that Madoka realizes she's here. Of course, she knows Homura's been here, in Johto, for a while now; they both kind of showed up at the same time, and that's a pretty nice comfort.

She can't say she expected Homura to be here at the festival, though. Homura's not the festive type, even if Madoka is at the festival. Even though it's pretty much an undeniable fact that Homura would follow her anywhere, she still can't wrap her head around Homura's being here. At a festival.

With a giant plush Pikachu in her arms.

Madoka takes it, her smile stretching into something brilliant and bright. ]

Oh, thank you! I'll take good care of it.

[ It's a gift from Homura, after all. ]

[reversing]

[ it suits her, the plush. cute things go well with madoka, and homura's empty hands settle beside her as she regards her with a quiet stare. ]

Don't overexert yourself.

[ it's spoken softly, as always, with a hard to read expression. ] Where are you staying tonight?

[hopeshot]

It's not that heavy, Homura-chan. And it's really cute!

[ She's beaming as she holds the plush a little closer. ]

Oh--well, I was thinking one of the inns around here...

[reversing]

You haven't made arrangements yet?

[ it's a minute change in her expression, but her brows knit and her eyes narrow. that's really worrisome, what if she doesn't get a room? ] Don't be so foolish, Madoka Kaname. You should make sure you have a place to return to.

[hopeshot]

[ She gives a nervous little laugh, and the Happiny on her shoulder even looks bashful. Oops. ]

I guess I got so excited I kind of forgot... But I'm sure it'll work out!

[reversing]

[ floating over to madoka's shoulder is homura's misdreavus, who seems to titter at the happiny, though it has a good natured air to it. ]

You have to consider this. As a trainer, there's plenty of dangerous things that could happen. [ homura takes a step closer, raising a hand - but then she thinks better of it. ] Think about more than just your own desires.

[ homura it's just a festival? ]

[hopeshot]

[ Dangerous things... ]

Homura-chan... I don't think anything too dangerous is going to happen here...

[ it's just a festival please locate your chill? ]

[reversing]

[ dangerous things like lesbian satan tbh ]

You can't predict that. [ and this time, homura turns on her heel, and begins to walk forward. she's assuming that madoka will follow her, also, but she isn't too pressed if she doesn't. ] If you need a place to stay, I have made arrangements at the hotel already.

[ ... which is to say, her room is open to you, madoka, if you have difficulty. so yes, things really will work out regardless. ]

[hopeshot]

[ who's lesbian satan haha homura-chan is good and pure ]

Eh-- [ Now she's kind of worried? ] Oh! Thank you, Homura-chan, that would be really great! You're right, with all these people, the rooms are probably all taken anyway...

[reversing]

[ did that JUST dawn on you madoka oh my god. homura's dying inside. well, she's already dead inside, actually, but that doesn't mean she isn't slightly afraid for you. forgetting to reserve a room, especially during a festival... ]

Will you have room for it? When you travel.

[ the plush, that is.

homura's misdreavus hovers to a moment longer before drifting back over to it's trainer's side, where it seems content to stay for the time being for once. as soon as it spots a particularly good looking kid, though, homura's sure it'll run off to pull some scary faces at them. such a troublesome pokemon... madoka looks right at home with her happiny, though. it suits her. ]

Don't let it hold you down.

[hopeshot]

[ Look can you really blame her, Homura, she was really excited about the festival.... ]

I think so. [ She's sure it'll work out...! Madoka holds the plush a little closer. Her Happiny looks pretty delighted to have a new (stuffed) friend, too. ] Maybe I'll make myself a big bag to carry it in!

[reversing]

I will help you.

[ there's a beat, and then ] We can set out tomorrow. For your own safety, until you are comfortable, I will follow.

[ homura it's a plushie. ]

[Food troubles? WELL, FELLOW SAD MAGICAL (tragical?) GIRL...]

[SHE HAS SOME OF EVERYTHING. HER POOR FLABEBE LOOKS VERY CONCERNED.]

[ There's so much.... Madoka has to really think about what she wants. Finally, she decides on a Pumpkaboo Pop and bites into it, giving a delighted gasp. ]

I've never had pumpkin and chocolate before, but... wow!

[hasnotaste]

Hero Club Tenet Number Three! "Sleep well, eat well!"

[She munches on some kind of fried pastry.]

[ !!! ]

Oh, you're a hero! That's... so cool!

[hasnotaste]

[There's... a moment of hesitation, but being a lower-case h hero is pretty much her #lifegoal so! We don't need to talk about the capital-H kind!!!]

Thanks! There's no club at school I would rather have joined. And oh, that reminds me!

[She clears her throat.]

Wow, and a whole club...! Are there a lot of you?

[ Tell her everything!! ]

I'm Madoka Kaname. [ She bows, then straightens up with a smile. ] It's really nice to meet you!

[hasnotaste]

There's me, and then there's Togo-san, and Itsuki, and Fu, and Karin... but I'm the only one from the club here. I carry it in my heart, though!

[A laugh.]
