ALSO, AS PROMPTS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION, and in the spirit of Halloween: August's GHOST TRICK event!

O-Bon festival: The streets are lined with NPC-run stalls for food, games, and the assorted tchotchkes of every summer festival you’ve ever seen in your animes! There’s Goldeen Scoop, heaping cones of Swirlix Candy, Test Your STRENGTH (there are two different machines for people and Pokémon; HM04 not required); basically, if you can think of it, it’s there. There will also be a yukata rental stall if you want to go full hog on the cultural side of things. Ecruteak boasts a small stage where the Kimono Girls give a short performance once every two hours; the festivities in Lavender Town are a little quieter, but they also have Haunter-shaped ice cream treats. When you lick them, they Lick you!

On the last evening of the festival in either location, there will be a large bonfire and traditional bon-odori dance in which everyone is welcome to participate. In Lavender Town only, they also set paper lamps afloat in the water past the cliffs.

Who you gonna call?: Remember “The Ghost of Maiden’s Peak”? Well, some of the local Gastly, Duskull, and Yamask seem to have gotten it into their heads that this kind of tomfoolery is somehow good medicine. If your trainer had someone in their life, someone now dead, that they have unresolved business with, these ghosties may take it upon themselves to play a little dress-up and follow your trainer around in the guise of said dead person until the issue is resolved. It’s their way of saying thank you for all the spiritual appeasement of the festival.

These ghosts won’t speak; Pokémon don’t talk, after all. So yes, your trainer is going to be followed around by some silent echo of their past who will not leave them alone.

Or, of course, write your own!

They taste better, too.

[Bertolt feels a little guilty for eavesdropping from the neighboring stall, but this is a rare situation where he feels he has to speak up. He thought he was blown away by all of the sweets and general food he could find in Pokemarts and little diners in towns, but this? There's so much more here, and even if all of the hustle and bustle makes him uneasy, he doesn't want to leave until he's tried everything at least once.

And, well, it's good to keep his Growlithe properly socialized, even if he's practically glued to his leg. He has had his poor little toes stepped on one too many times!

He casts the boy a curious look, a faint smile toying at the corners of his mouth for a few moments. He's seen those pokemon before in the woods, but he's never seen someone with one until now. It's... actually less terrifying than they seem to act.]

Try the bananas with chocolate on them.

They do?

[ He can't help but feel embarrassed that he'd just drooled on himself in front of this other boy, but maybe he didn't notice, being so tall. It's like looking up at Orga again. Slightly intimidating, but familiar enough that he doesn't show it.

He already misses home.

Takaki smiles at the growlithe, still so unfamiliar with all these creatures being around. Mars is so barren of other life, it's hard to remember so much more than humans exist out there. Only his time on earth has made his mind start to change.

He looks at the stall and furrows his brow. ]

Uuh... um, which ones are those?
bertall: (But I don't consider them one night)

[He totally noticed, but he's used to that sort of thing. When you grow up in the barracks with a dozens of voracious and growing teenagers, drooling is bound to happen one way or another. Sometimes it's drooling at the table, sometimes it's drooling in their sleep. Either way, drool happens! There's nothing to be ashamed of over!

Mostly.

Bertolt tilts his head a little, but he doesn't question it at all - he's the same way with a lot of food still, and maybe this guy is from a similar situation. What if he lived in one of those deserts he's heard about? Or in a really, really cold part of the world?]

They're, uh... [Stepping a little closer, Bertolt reaches over Takaki's shoulder to drop a couple coins into the vendor's jar and plucks one of the treats from the stand.] Here.
