"Well, Jules' speciality is using them for crime," Steven says. "It's the one thing he's good at, but he's really good at it."

He hesitates a moment, before asking, "Ah, I don't suppose you know a little bird girl named Kiri? Only she mentioned she had a friend called 'Bo' and sometimes those of us from other worlds end up having people we know end up here too."

"Shit, is she here?"

There's no overt change in her posture. Just a sudden air of tension that moves her from 'prickly an prone to bite' to 'loaded crossbow'.

"Did someone fucking...conscript a little kid into a gang?"

"Not here," Steven says quickly. "Not everyone here gets conscripted into the gang when they show up. Some of them show up at the house of a woman we call Fake Mom, who sends them off with a bag she packed to go traveling. Kiri was one of those. Most little kids who show up are. She's traveling now, but I can contact her on the pokegear for you. When she's in Goldenrod, she'll usually stay at my apartment. I have a nest we made together that I set out in the living room."

He's pretty proud of it, actually. He'd used part of a papasan chair in its construction.

She relaxes at that, though not completely. Occasionally staying with a pokemade man is better than actually being part of the pokemob, but she doesn't know him well enough yet to be certain by how much.

Also, she didn't miss the implication of that 'most'. That's definitely something she'll need to look into.

"Good," she says. "She's a sweet kid. She doesn't need to deal with all of this on top of everything else. Who's she travelling with right now?"

That's probably meant to be nonchalant. It isn't. She very much wants to know if any other members of the Mighty Nein are here, though she's not entirely certain what she hopes the answer is.

Handwave that even though this is set at Christmas, Kiri's doing the gym she's on on NOW

"Well, right now I asked my employee Scorpia to keep an eye on her while they're both in Azalea to challenge Bugsy," Steven says. "Just, you know, to keep her out of trouble. They should both be back in a day or two."

After a moment he adds, "Ah, Scorpia works under me at my actual business, not Team Rocket. I mean, she is a Rocket, but I'm not her immediate supervisor here, just at the bar. When there's no overriding mandatory mission, and those don't happen all that often, Team Rocket is more of a part time job."

That seems to jar something in Jules's panicky brain. "It doesn't have to be anyone on one!" But he releases his Pinsir from another Pokeball, because, hey, maybe a giant bug could help out here.

"Pinsir?" Curl the Pinsir has no idea what's going on, really. But she is a giant bug and existing as such and may surely be impressive enough to stop things by her very presence, Jules hopes.

Rust crashes into a wall because of course she does.
