the berries seem more suited for pokemon, so yeah i wouldn't quite recommend them.
you'll still want to look into fruits and vegetables for nutritional reasons, and meat or dairy products from the store.
if you're not familiar with cooking, i'd say start with frozen or prepackaged meals that can be reheated. you should be able to buy those at stores?

I am reasonably familiar with cooking, but never with fire that was not my own.
Non-magical fire is rather more difficult to control.
