They had to be the one to receive Hydaelyn's blessing, because they are the one that went back in time to meet her, which wouldn't have happened at all if Emet-Selch and Hythlodaeus hadn't intervened on their behalf, which they likely only bothered to do in the first place because they recognized the color of Azem's soul. It wasn't G'rhyf that was the key to that stupid time loop, it was their soul.]
