Strange is one way of putting it. [A grand, cosmic irony is more apt of a descriptor, she thinks, but she doesn't vocalize as much.]

You have quite a bit of explaining to do, you know.

Trust me, I know. There's a lot to catch you up on.

[G'rhyf sighs and rubs a hand over their face for a moment, collecting their thoughts.]

Where do you want me to start?

[There are... probably a thousand questions she could ask. For now, though, she'll start with the simplest.]

This... "First" you referred to. That was where we were called to, then? [And, more importantly.] Did you kick the arse of whoever did this?

[They can't help a short bark of laughter, hiding a grin behind the back of their hand.] Well, I did deck him soundly across the face...though it hadn't been the Exarch's intent to steal anyone but myself away, to be entirely fair.

But yes, the First is the shard we all were brought to. I assume you recall the 'Warriors of Darkness', and their world that was being consumed by Light?

He still deserved it.

[She could go on about the various injustices that this so-called "Exarch" deserved but.. she stops dead at G'ryhf's words. Recognition blooms across her features, and she straightens up.]

Where Minfilia was sent to aid, yes?

[They nod grimly.]

She was able to stop the Flood, but the imbalance of Light still plagued what was left of the livable world. The sky was blotted out by a veil of unnatural light, and the aether of the land was...horribly stagnant. The Crystal Exarch had been preparing for a hundred years to summon me entire and whole across the rift to help fix it, and in so doing stop the Eighth Umbral Calamity from ever coming to pass.

I was...the Blessing of Light is able to hold back the corrupting influence of what were called 'Lightwardens', souls infused with so much Light that it could not dissipate. Were anyone else to destroy them, the remaining aether would just be absorbed by another man or creature and turn that into a new Lightwarden, repeating the cycle. But when I took that Light in, I could contain it and bring the night sky back to the region that Lightwarden had lorded over.

[To her credit, she listens patiently. She always has, when it comes to the Warrior. There’s always been a level of honesty there between them. It’s not like speaking with her brother, or the instructors and professors at the Studium. Despite everything, she’s only ever felt like their equal.]

It always comes back to you, doesn’t it?

[There’s a note of amusement in her voice, but it’s belied by a heavy layer of concern. G’rhyf carried the weight of the world on their shoulders, after all. The weight of several worlds, even.]

So, how did averting the Calamity go this time?

'Tis simply my fate, it seems. [They grin and shrug, taking something close to their usual light-hearted tone when dodging the question of their burdens, but there's something of a solemn undertone to it this time.] But none of it has ever been accomplished alone, really.

[They never could have made those last few steps without everyone's help.]

Well, the part about fighting all the Lightwardens didn't go too badly. Tracking each of them down was a challenge, and considering the identity of the last-- [Ah, they're getting ahead of themself.] But there were other complications along the way. It was...after the second Lightwarden fell, that the Ascian Emet-Selch revealed himself to us. One of the Unsundered. He claimed he did not intend to interfere, but to judge us and whether we were worth courting as allies. You can imagine how well that went over to start...
