Let's put it like this: I was conscripted to fight in a war between mages by a relative who apparently summoned Angra Mainyu some 50 years ago, and he came back to take on the form of my wife and curse me with all the world's evil. Needless to say, I find the environment here somewhat preferable.

That's the thing about mages. You give them an inch, they'll do as they please, obsessed with advancing their craft. They don't care about how it affects anyone else: not innocent humans, or even their children or family. Me-- my wife and daughter. We were just another piece on the board to these people. It's a society that will chew you up and spit you out. And all for what? To reach the root of all magic?

A sudden, painless death would be a kindness to these bastards.

Anyway. I was there, in the hospital. The fucks that ran the place were having me wait to get my brains scooped out. Fun times, wish they, you know, asked me how I felt about it.

One of the doctors there has me taken to his office and gives me an offer I literally cannot refuse unless I already took that damn icepick to the face.

And as much as that guy was a piece of shit, accepting the "curse" of Cain was probably one of the best decisions I've made.

Am I making sense so far?

I believe the more common terminology would be 'vampire'. I've had my own share of dealings with them, I'm not about to lie. I served as a hitman of sorts to the Mage's Association, and taken out more than a dozen high level threats or so in my time. Nothing personal or anything.

Cannot really blame you, though. Sounds as though you were given a pretty rotten deal. When our understanding of mental and emotional health is constantly advancing, and society isn't particularly kind to those who are suffering. Eight years of Reagan certainly didn't help while I spent time in America.
