How to make things awkward in 20 lines or less, Tristan could pen a whole guide to the concept. He was just about to try and steer this back into a normal conversation avenue when her Budew chimed in.

"Aw, well- don't let me hold you up if you two want to get underway. Carmen seems like she's just raring to go."

"Do ya think that once you get to the other side of this route you might find an area that's better for training your pokémon? I mean, Chimchar and I wouldn't mind coming along at least that far so you don't have to turn around again."

[Tristan wouldn't say no to the spending cash but he's not sure what he's going to do with all of this new knowledge yet.]

Seems kind of strange that they just hand this out to anyone that shows up. You'd think there would be a screening process or a qualifier or something.

( that's not really so surprising and she's probably going to be the same way although it could be argued that she's seeing his proverbial test right now, as it happens. she isn't convinced though and it'll take more than a raincoat and ride for her to feel better about this guy.

he'll have to choose his "favour" carefully given that joey is, indeed, a significant part of her life and she's very, very likely to pass anything he asks of her onto him.

she arches a brow at his quip about the hunters and isn't overly bothered with it. serenity's not as familiar with them as the others are. but, no, that's not something she wants to appear as whether she knows about them in depth or not.

while he's packing up, serenity is looking over the town she's been brought to and is about to bid him farewell when he offers himself as a call should she be unable to get a hold of joey. for some reason, it colours her cheeks -- it might just be the sheer surprise at a kind gesture from him. serenity just offers a nod because she's absolutely not admitting to herself that she's flushed... besides, it's probably from the weather. )

I'll do that, than-- m, money? You don't have to do that but... it's... nice of you to offer...

( this... this she isn't what to make of. and the "nice" sounds incredibly foreign as it leaves her lips. )

( the robot monkey portion is definitely her favourite bit. it's humourous that he would end up with a monkey as his pokemon.

with the shaking tall grass behind them, literally, serenity slows her steps so she can talk to tristan more properly. she smiles when he tells her that she's correct for her ( wrong ) guess at how long he's been here working with his partner. it's very lucky that his chimchar goes along with the ploy because it really is going to be a shame if serenity ever ends up breaking her views on tristan since he's such a great guy ( as previously established. ) )

Chimchar, huh? What a cool looking pokemon... ( she giggles softly at the bashful look the pokemon gives and smiles to tristan. )

Wait, really! ( serenity beams at her friend. ) You'll help me? I could really use some help figuring some things out like the PokeGear thing...

[Which is why he's only being slightly bratty. He knows she'll relay everything to her brother - or so he assumes.

Ah, yes. Serenity was still blind folded when his men tried to capture her. Well, that one fell flat.

When Marik looks back at her as he gets on his Cyclizar, he notices the color to her cheeks and raises an eyebrow. Is she feeling alright? Was it the rain? That's... well, it's not worrisome in the regular sense. He doesn't need Joey playing him for getting his sister sick.]

Chenzira insists. You can grab yourself some more clothes and food.

[The Yamask nods his head from his spot under Marik's chin.]

( he assumes correctly. if joey's around then serenity's 100% going to tell him everything that's come to pass since her arrival which definitely includes running into marik of all people.

( best to accept the generosity since it's rude to look a gift horse in the mouth and all. when he makes notice of the heat on her face, she turns her head and taps her chin hurriedly. )

[He can only hope she paints him in a decent light. Mildly bratty is a better description than terrorized.

Sigh. He can't win them all. (Or any for that matter.)

The Egyptian raises an eyebrow, giving Serenity a look over. An odd way to react if it's just the rain but. Whatever. It's not his problem. Chenzira mutters something else and Marik audibly groans.

... Chen asks that you message me when Joey finally arrives. He wants to know that you're okay.

( he can rest well knowing she won't paint him in a horrible light. he has helped her after all. but it'll be up to joey where he believes her or not because marik being kind is pretty unbelievable after all the crap he put them through.

At least Chenzira is sweet. I'll... do that.

( she pauses before adding: ) For Chenzira's peace of mind.

[Considering he's put people through so much his entire damn life, it's completely warranted.

[He nudges his Cyclizar, who playfully "revs up" by doing a wheelie.]

[A nod and then he's off to the Ruins of Alph to go visit the Yamasks there.

“Oh yes, that would be greatly appreciated. Haven’t been to Olivine just yet but hopefully I will get there someday,” Isabela nods in relief, “How are we going to contact them then? I do hope that there is an option to get in contact with them.”

“Oh yes, that is a great idea, Tristan. I couldn’t wait to get out of this forest and find a place where I can help Carmen in training so she can get better in battling with other Pokémon,” Isabela smiles as she agrees with the suggestion, “You and Chimchar can come with us and maybe we can have some training battles to help each other out.”

"The PokeGear can contact them," Radley says, and shows her how that works. "I haven't been there either, but I hope to visit them and some other friends."

[That was definitely an angle that Tristan hadn't considered. Guess it was just fortunate that.. monkey see, monkey do. Through mirroring his friend it was likely that no Pokémon had been sent into an existential crisis. Even if the concern had been voiced, Tristan likely would have remained as blunt as ever if the way he spoke to Thunder Kid during that Capsule Monsters fiasco was any indication of his level of tact.

The expression wasn't lost on him, but was said also didn't make much sense to him.]

Joey, I know that we had to cross a few time zones here and there but that's no excuse for losing all concept of reality. What, do you think by acting like it was over a year ago you can smooth over the fact that you totally crashed and burned in the tournament?

[That loosening of his pack provides just the opportunity a certain monkey was waiting for. As the two boys continue to confound one another Chimchar slips into Joey's pack.

This conversation goes of for such a duration that it starts to have Tristan questioning himself and his last memories. Placing a hand aside his face he gives his mug a rub as if it could clear his head.]

I definitely don't remember graduating. That would have.. kinda been a big deal. Maybe I could use some of that water.

[He starts to reach for the thermos but stops when the attention turns back to the missing mon]

I don't know.. maybe he went back inside his pokéball? [Can they do that on their own? Tristan had no idea. Visibly searching around the area, proves useless so he starts calling out for the little guy.] Great, it's just my first day and I've already lost my only Pokémon!

[That response is telling enough to realize that he's misread the situation.]

Sorry. Guess it's not really an out of sight, out of mind kind of deal.

Hey! This time he said something right! "Sure, I can't see why not," He answered to the additional suggestion of holding their own training matches. Even though he tended to leave the battles to others, at least when it involved monsters, it didn't look like this was the type of world where that usual behavior would fly. "You know technically.. this isn't the first time I've ever been in a place like this." He decided to offer up a few details.

"It wasn't exactly the same- but it still involved having to partner up with real monsters in order to make any kind of progress."

"Hopefully, I can apply some of that experience here." After a pause. "Are you ready to head back out?"

Hey, I know it's rough but just remember that there's only so much one person can do. As long as you tried to do the right thing that's what counts.

Now that.. is a little more complicated to answer. I guess you could say things were going alright but there was definitely something huge that was about to go down. I'm just not sure what it's all going to entail so I can't really be too worried about it. It's just .. a feeling. You know?

[Graduation hadn't happened yet? Oh... oh no. This Tristan must be another one of those memory recreated NPCs like he'd seen in Duel Links. It'd been more than a little jarring seeing a recreation of others from how they'd appeared around the time of the Battle City Tournament in Kaiba's game world, but encountering the digitally-reconstructed version of himself had been surreal in the extreme. With a Marik pulled from right around there running around too Joey doesn't really have any other conclusion to come to but to assume that this place is running on a similar program to how Duel Links had been doing it. After all, there was no way they were the real deals if they came from the past was there?]

[Joey makes a sad face.]

Okay, that explains part of why you think I couldn't be real but not why you concocted such a crazy idea in the first place. Why would I be digital?! Seriously, who is going to program me into a video game?

[A future factory worker doesn't exactly sound like an exciting npc to him. They both forget about the pokemon for now, and that suits chimchar just fine as he uses the light from his tail to help him search through this bag for delicious looking things.]
