Buuuuut. I hear there's some spookiness to be had. Just rumors. I mean, the graveyard is sure a thing but those are necessarily inherently spooky. If there's a ghost tour or something I'm missing someone tell me please cause your boy here is prepared for scares.

A ghost tour is easily the worst situation in which to meet a ghost. Large group of people, set pathways, often brightly-lit? No, no no.

Wander down some dark alleyways at night, on your own. Or find an abandoned building and camp out.

[Why can't he be creepy and helpful? A man can have many talents. Stanford Pines happens to be very, very good at wildly misjudging what is appropriate for a given situation. It's okay to give children weapons, right?]

Ghost Pokémon tend to be shy, particularly around humans. This is not universally true but it's true enough that I feel confident in saying you'll stand a much greater chance of catching one on your own, off the beaten path.

[We are all just going to pretend like you were giving him advice on catching ghost type pokemon from the beginning. Because otherwise a much older man telling a teenager to go wandering around dark alleys at night or camping alone is really creepy.

Yeah, that's legit. I think I just make too much noise most of the time. I seriously want a ghost type, but I have trouble holding still and being quiet.

Hmm. Then you might try for a Gastly? It and its evolved forms are one of the more outgoing Ghost types, and like to get into mischief. They might find your energy to be a draw.

I personally don't have experience trying, but a good friend of mine added one to her team without too much trouble. Really it all comes down to the individuals involved. Some Pokémon will join your team without even needing to be battled, simply because they want to. My Gothitelle, Alice, followed me around for two days before I got him a proper Pokéball.

[The screen tips a little. In the background a Gothitelle looks up from a magazine, blinks once, and then goes back to reading.]

I've never seen a Cutiefly before outside of pictures in the 'dex. Pictures without any reference for scale do not get across their size properly. Is it your only Pokémon so far?

[It was fortunate that Yayoi had decided to go to New Bark Town for a little bit, when she noticed Ellen being chased around by a Ghastly. One hand went to her Pokeball for a moment before realizing the girl was

A. Afraid of Ghosts

and B. That was her starter.]

The poor girl. Pikachu, use Psychic on the Ghastly. Just hold it in place while she catches her breath.

Pika! [as her Raichu powered up the Psychic, Yayoi went over to Ellen.]
