ALSO, AS PROMPTS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION: Last month's mini-events!

Effect: Friday, July 8: Flower Gift - All day, despite the season, flowers drift down from the sky. They’re harmless, beautiful, and smell lovely, but if trainers aren’t careful, they might end up trudging through rosedrifts up to their knees before long.
Swarm: Tuesday, July 12: Spinda
Effect: Friday, July 15 to Sunday, July 17: Worry Seed - Affected characters won’t be able to get any sleep. Does that make your character cranky? Does it damage their brain-to-mouth filter? The effects can last as little or as long as you’d like over this weekend.
Effect/Swarm Double Duty: Friday, July 22: Surf - Large waves appear in all bodies of water, including things like bathtubs and your Sawsbucks drinks (it’s just bean water, you know). Be careful on the ocean, but also, hang ten, dudes! The waves won’t destroy anything, but trainers are going to get wet on this ride. Also, oh god, small jellyfish Pokemon (Tentacool, Frillish, Inkay) happen to be swarming randomly in these bodies of water. GANBATTE, VICTORY ROAD.
Effect: Friday, July 29: Haze - The forecast is misty inside and out on this oddly cool July day. Affected trainers will find it difficult to remember things, whether those happened long ago or just five minutes past. The memories aren’t gone, of course, it’s just…foggy.
Swarm: Sunday, July 31: Illumise and Volbeat

On the contrary! One can never question too much.

[Like, okay, maybe don't go poking your head into Demon Business but other than that. He'd like to think he's learned where the line is.]

Pokemon research is a valid field of study in this dimension and I intend to make my mark on it.

[It's not Maurice's thing but...this guy looks like he's having fun!]

Maybe you can! It'd be cool to do something like that... but I'm a mechanic, not a zoologist.

[Of course he's having fun, there's new science to do!]

From what I hear there are plenty of these creatures that are mechanical in nature. You may very well have more input to give than you think.

Like robots?

[There's a hopeful glint there. Maurice has loved robots since he was little--in fact, it's half the reason he got into machinery.]

I haven't been here nearly as long as everybody else.

Neither have I, but I've done my best to gather as much information as I can. You may want to look into Steel types; I believe the mechanical Pokémon come mainly from that subgroup.

I'll look in my Poke'Dex, thanks...oh hey have you been here long enough to know that every single Pokemon, even the really huge ones, come out of eggs?
meteorman: (14 | that fit inside you)

[personal profile] meteorman 2016-08-15 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! In fact, as a Breeder, it's one of the first things that I learned. It's incredible, particularly given how common interbreeding is even between Pokémon that logically should not be able to mate. They adhere to so few laws of biology as I know them; I've had to completely revise my expectations in working with them.

[He doesn't seem frustrated by this at all. If anything it seems to delight him.]

[personal profile] toothaches 2016-08-15 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! Oh, okay, you're a Breeder. They give you guys a different book.

[For a moment he goes quiet, still wanting to welcome this newcomer but slowly growing weighed down by the feeling he has nothing worthwhile to add.]

Hey...do you have any idea why we have to walk to hatch eggs? Aren't eggs supposed to stay still?
meteorman: (11 | we only need the point)

[personal profile] meteorman 2016-08-15 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[Even just providing a sounding board is wonderful, and Ford won't turn his nose up at it. As far as he's concerned this is an interesting discussion, but then again, he loves talking about his own pet projects.]

If I were to guess I would posit that the movement is meant to mimic something in nature, though what I couldn't tell you. As far as I know wild Pokémon don't carry their eggs with them in the same way, or someone would have observed it by now.
toothaches: (How bout no?)

[personal profile] toothaches 2016-08-15 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I know of two Pokemon that have kangaroo pouches but...that's it. Point is, if you wanna hatch a Pokemon, you'd better be planning on makin' a loooong trip. Luckily I have my Rhyhorn.
meteorman: (10 | all at once)

[personal profile] meteorman 2016-08-17 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
You have a Rhyhorn? I've not yet been able to observe one! Is it your primary mode of transportation? I've heard they're excellent racers. Surprisingly fast.
toothaches: (by golly)

[personal profile] toothaches 2016-08-17 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[At the idea that this guy just might wanna see his pride and joy, Maurice lights right up. He's almost a different person.]

He sure is! Wicked fast! Y'wanna see 'em?
meteorman: (14 | that fit inside you)

[personal profile] meteorman 2016-08-17 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely I do!

[Look at these two nerds, nerding together. Beautiful.]

[In a burst of light, Meatloaf the Rhyhorn is called from his Poke'ball. He trumpets a greeting and Maurice instantly starts laughing and tussling with him, as though he were a big dog instead of a huge, stone-plated rhinoceros creature. Meatloaf, in turn, is very lively but also very gentle. He adores his trainer.]

Mr. Loaf's only the best Pokemon there is!

How long have you been training him?

[It's interesting to him, how close they seem. As a man who has up until very recently had an incredibly difficult time forming bonds (mainly due to self-sabotage, he admits), the particular partnership between a Pokemon and their trainer fascinates him. It's not like the bond between owner and pet, but neither is it a perfect mirror of a partnership between two humans. It's a type of mutually beneficial relationship that really only exists localized to this universe, and that sort of thing is his bread and butter.]
