ALSO, AS PROMPTS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION: Last month's mini-events!

Effect: Friday, July 8: Flower Gift - All day, despite the season, flowers drift down from the sky. They’re harmless, beautiful, and smell lovely, but if trainers aren’t careful, they might end up trudging through rosedrifts up to their knees before long.
Swarm: Tuesday, July 12: Spinda
Effect: Friday, July 15 to Sunday, July 17: Worry Seed - Affected characters won’t be able to get any sleep. Does that make your character cranky? Does it damage their brain-to-mouth filter? The effects can last as little or as long as you’d like over this weekend.
Effect/Swarm Double Duty: Friday, July 22: Surf - Large waves appear in all bodies of water, including things like bathtubs and your Sawsbucks drinks (it’s just bean water, you know). Be careful on the ocean, but also, hang ten, dudes! The waves won’t destroy anything, but trainers are going to get wet on this ride. Also, oh god, small jellyfish Pokemon (Tentacool, Frillish, Inkay) happen to be swarming randomly in these bodies of water. GANBATTE, VICTORY ROAD.
Effect: Friday, July 29: Haze - The forecast is misty inside and out on this oddly cool July day. Affected trainers will find it difficult to remember things, whether those happened long ago or just five minutes past. The memories aren’t gone, of course, it’s just…foggy.
Swarm: Sunday, July 31: Illumise and Volbeat

[Guilt sets in almost immediately following her reaction. As much as he can't understand why anyone would be glad to be rid of their magic (rather than the stigma associated with it, at least), he isn't driven to pursue it any further at the moment. That would be just as cruel.]

I'm sorry. I am being... inconsiderate. They cannot be completely malevolent, I suppose, if they have made you happier.

What don't you understand? I'm happy to explain, if you'd like. [He's still confused about much of what she's said, too, but he's pressed her plenty on the matter.]

No, no... That's okay. It is jarring, I know that.

[Angel nodded to herself. Abrupt as he had been, he was willing to talk about his side of things. And she had always been a curious soul. If he was willing to talk to her about it, then she would gladly take the opportunity. At the very least, they could reach some amount of understand. At best, Anders might forget about his earlier distress.]

[But maybe she was just optimistic...]

You said something about the "fade." I... suppose we could have two names for one thing but... for me, I draw power from the phase. Women like myself are able to manipulate this dimension. Some of us can compress it, holding targets in place. Others can move through it...

I could alter things around me. I could make people see things that were not there.

What was it for you?
purramedic: (i can't think of a clever comment)

[personal profile] purramedic 2016-09-26 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Some of that, he can relate to. Other ideas only add to his uncertainty -- particularly the bit implying gender exclusivity.]

It sounds too similar to be a coincidence, but... The Fade is another realm, where humans dream and spirits and demons reside. Mages draw their power from it, as you draw from this "Phase." There are many schools of magic one can learn to use, regardless of anything except whether or not one was born a mage.

[personal profile] brokencode 2016-09-26 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know that there are many spirits there but... you are right. There are a great deal of similarities. [A curious amount, she noted. It was clear that, at the very least, they weren't from the same period of time. But it was interesting, the similarities. Perhaps at another time, she might sit down and drill him for more information.]

[It might be nice, exchanging stories with one another.]

So, that is what you are — a mage? And you mentioned healing. Is that one of the schools of magic?
purramedic: (tender loaf)

[personal profile] purramedic 2016-09-26 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I am. Or I was, I suppose. It's all very... [distressing.] confusing. But... yes. I'm practiced in other schools as well, but I've always favored healing.

[He isn't sure how much more needs to be said, or should be. But maybe a question for her wouldn't be very rude.]

Pardon my curiosity if it is inappropriate -- you said only your women can access the Phase, which grants you unique magical ability, but you don't consider yourself mages. Why is that?

[personal profile] brokencode 2016-09-26 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
That's wonderful. I... I used to love helping people myself. There was only so much I could do but... [But she always did more harm than good, was operating not of her own freewill. What little good she did couldn't even begin to make up for the damage she had caused.] But it isn't the same as actually healing someone. My friend could though...

Different classes and schools, I suppose.

[Angel's lips came together in a firm line. She supposed that the title of mage was fitting, but she had always been a siren, and she had always known it as such.]

You are not being impolite by any stretch of the imagination. It is just... I don't know, honestly. I was born being told I was a siren — that is what we call it. That is what we always have called it. It is... just how it is.

[personal profile] purramedic 2016-09-26 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
A siren? You don't seem the type to lure sailors to their deaths.

[He seems a small bit perkier, a clever smile forming over taut lips.]

Did you stop when you came here, as well?

No, I don't think that's quite accurate. You've certainly helped me.

[Angel raised a hand, covering her mouth as a small laugh erupted from her throat. It felt like one of the first times she had been mirthful since before...]

[Since before.]

No, I suppose not. I do not quite have the figure or the voice for it. Too many bones.

[Her mirth doesn't last long however. It doesn't take much for her smile to quickly slip away, leaving her looking uncomfortable. She was doing well enough in this conversation, making friends with someone who didn't know her, her history, or her direct familial relations. It felt nice to exist independent of her former self.]

I... am glad I have been able to help. But no, being here is not what broke me of my habits. It is just... Suffice it to say that it is complicated.

[The short bit of laughter he coaxes from her makes him feel better more than anything else has, however short-lived it is. Then, there's all the more reason for him to be concerned.]

I understand. Rather, I understand one's circumstances can sometimes be... extenuating. I am not here to judge, I assure you. [Not anymore, anyway, he figures.]

I appreciate that. [Even if she hadn't told him the full story, she still felt relieved enough for the time being. The rest of her story could come later.]

[Much later.]

There have been many who have passed judgement. I don't fault them for it. But it is nice to know that there are still those who would support me.

[It seemed like a natural enough close to that particular conversation, so Angel began to backtrack. If this world was primitive, then she couldn't imagine what the time that Anders came from might have been like. Likewise, she couldn't imagine how confusing it might all be.]

Is there anything else I can help you with in the meantime?
purramedic: (Nice tm)

[personal profile] purramedic 2016-09-26 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
[He can certainly relate to that. Or he could, if he did know whether anyone would forgive him.]

I'm sure I will have many more questions the longer I am here, but there are none that I can think of at the moment.

I've probably taken enough of your time as it is.

You really aren't. My caretakers are busy with... [She did her best to fight a playful grimace.] Each other. And truth be told, I'm not sure where my other companion is. [Likely doing something she was better off not knowing. Hopefully he didn't come back stained in anything.]

There isn't much to do at the moment. It is just Mari and I for right now.

[personal profile] purramedic 2016-09-26 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
Right... Mari. Is she doing well?

[The talk of Angel's companion reminds Anders of his own. He looks down at her and strokes at her idly while she still naps.]

Can you find food for her anywhere? What does she eat? I'd imagine the grass, but I worry this girl might be too young to mouse for herself, and I couldn't have stayed in that town long enough to find her any food.

[personal profile] brokencode 2016-09-26 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
More than well. She had quite the protective streak about her. She had a hard time resting while we were in the woods, but now that there are bigger creatures to do the protecting...

She prefers the pampered life, it seems.

[Mari gave a small bleat in agreement. butting her head against Angel's leg as she did. Angel stroked at her head absently, mind already wandering away. Her first few days were already a blur to her, tangled up in fear and an impending sense of doom. But there were still a few details that stuck out.]

You should be able to find some berries along the road. For whatever reason, all of these creatures seem to have a taste for them. I do not recommend eating them yourself, however.

I... would be wary though. There are other creatures in those woods. Aggressive ones. She should be able to hold her own but... I get the feeling you would rather avoid all of that.

[personal profile] purramedic 2016-09-26 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
[And the smile returns as he peers down at the Skitty.] Sounds familiar...

I've never heard of a cat eating berries. Then again, she is an odd sort of cat...

I'm quite used to wild creatures nibbling on me. I'll be sure to keep her safe.

I suppose you haven't heard of a sheep that shoots lightning bolts either, hmm?

[Angel managed another laugh, this time keeping her hand low and her smile visible.]

If you would like, I can come to lend a hand. There is a transportation network here that could have me to you within just a few minutes. Mari and I know the route fairly well. At the very least, we could bring supplies.
purramedic: (i can't think of a clever comment)

[personal profile] purramedic 2016-09-26 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'm afraid you've certainly got me there.

Aren't you very far away? I doubt I will ever understand why anyone would have taken our magic from us but still taunt us with power far beyond our own.
