But now that he's starting to get what's happening, Noel can see the discomfort in Hope's body language; he can see the need to tone it down. In the long run, the exact number of years doesn't really matter. It doesn't change what happened. But somehow, having that fact corrected diffuses some of the distress and tension -- enough that Noel can listen rationally. Enough that he dials back on the intensity.
