Video

Yo! So this isn't the first time I've ended up in a strange world, but I feel like it might be the weirdest.

[Please enjoy the ridiculous close-up of Seiya's face as she addresses the 'Gear. She's amused, for the most part, but also slightly irritated by finding herself in yet another odd situation.]

Oh, right. If anyone has seen an angry little squirt around, please let me know. She has white blonde hair. Answers to Yaten. Or Shrimp.

[What a way to talk about one's close friend. It's probably fortunate that the girl in question is not around to hear it. And with those delightful statements out of the way, Seiya grins, winks, and cuts the feed.]

Cherrygrove City (action)

Later that day, Seiya can be wandering through Cherrygrove. It's a bit smaller than what she was expecting, but ultimately not unlike where she'd grown up. The major difference is the existence of all these weird animals - pokemon - but even that's easy enough to get used to. She's still not sure how to feel about the little blue frog- the sobble that that woman had given her, but for now she's decided to take her explanation at face value.

Besides, it's kind of cute.

Either way, she's sticking to the beach for now. Sobble seems to prefer this, if the way she's waddling along behind her trainer is any indication. For her part, she's at least making an effort to walk slow enough that the little pokemon can keep up.

Eventually, she'll have to give it a name.

Does your friend have any other defining features?

[ Because being short and having white hair aren't all that uncommon in the wonderful world of pokemon, you know. ]

blanket apology for Seiya's everything lmao

[personal profile] fighterstar 2020-06-14 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
She's pretty short...

[Seiya can't honestly say how short because it's never occurred to her to measure Yaten - not that the other woman would ever let her. But there are more important things to temporarily focus on for now.]

And nowhere near as gorgeous as you.

[Helpful information, to be sure.]
lioness_rampant: (mild embarrassment)

[personal profile] lioness_rampant 2020-06-14 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I--

[ Allura's face turns red, slightly flustered, but she laughs off the compliment. ]

I'm flattered, but surely you can be a bit more specific?

Rocket Training

This entire thing is bullshit.

Melissa would have thought this was some kind of insane fever dream, except a.) vampires don't get sick and b.) she has no context for what the fuck is even happening. She knew Pokemon was a thing, vaguely, in the most general of terms. Enough to know that the cards were banned in schools either because of fighting or 'gambling' or both. She didn't have enough knowledge or creativity to actually have a coherent dream about it. And yet here she is, in Team Rocket Orientation, possibly the worst orientation she's ever been through.

She's been left on her own for the moment, the Rocket training her off to fetch something or other, which means she's leaning against the wall watching people go back. Should you look like you're going to try and talk to her (and honestly, she's kind of hard not to notice), she can start off the conversation. "Hell of an introduction," she says dryly, reaching to fix her ponytail, "Possibly literally. Did I die and my eternal punishment is to be relegated to kid's show villain for the rest of eternity?"

(She doesn't actually know Team Rocket is the villain of Pokemon... just that 'stealing' is pretty clearly their core focus and, given that she was a security for eight years, doesn't really endear them to her.)

Pokégear

[This particular communication is not very long: just a picture of a Scraggy and the attached text:]

Do they all look this stupid?

[Well that's just mean. Don't talk about your pokemon like that, mystery person.]

that does not look stupid

they are all different and good in their own way

also they can understand human speech

They don't all look like that. None of mine do.

It's probably not evolved yet.

[Cassandra is not sure she'd call it stupid-looking, but it does look a bit strange, and not very intimidating. Then again, it's probably young, or what passes for young among unevolved Pokemon.]

[sorry not sorry she's a bitch]

it looks like a child drew it and then it came to life

and if it can understand me why the fuck does it just keep repeating what it is at me

[oh bitch you did not]

such a burn. how will i ever recover.
worthallthis: (you again ugh)

[personal profile] worthallthis 2020-06-14 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Maybe so but that doesn't mean it's stupid.]

pokemon only say one word that's just how they are

it may be a biological limitation

some can learn to write though and they communicate well with tone and expression if you are observant
fearinahandfulof: (Watchful)

[personal profile] fearinahandfulof 2020-06-14 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Some of them start in one form and then change to another when they grow stronger, or if you give them a specific item, or once they decide they really trust you. Some of them even evolve more than once.
carbonatedscientist: (sassy)

[personal profile] carbonatedscientist 2020-06-14 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you honestly think you'd be able to ask that question without anyone taking such a potshot?

But really, approaching the Pokemon with kindness will go a longer way.
stopinthenameofawe: (Melissa [Hold on a second])

[personal profile] stopinthenameofawe 2020-06-14 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[look she didn't say it was stupid, just that it looks stupid.

no but she also probably thinks it is stupid.]

all of them? are you kidding me?

TRAINING OBVSLY

[personal profile] fingersandteeth 2020-06-14 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The man she's talking to hands her a bottle of water, condensation beading on its chilled exterior. "Well. You don't have to die to end up here. Some of us are taken directly from our daily lives. I can promise you, however, that it will be much better when Mandatory Training Hell Week is over and all you need to do is make sure you keep up with your quota."

The man himself is about six foot tall and brick-shaped, although he holds himself to downplay his size. He's recognizably Latino, with a light beard, wire-rim glasses, and classically handsome features.

"I'm Steven, by the way," he adds. "If you're from another world, which it sounds like you are, then we're likely to be working together--most of us that aren't from around here tend to work together when we can, rather than with the native Rockets. We even have a sort of ad hoc crew."

worthallthis: (skeptical)

[personal profile] worthallthis 2020-06-14 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
why would i be kidding you i don't even know you

[And he's not sure he likes her, either. He was at least nice to his pokemon from the get-go, even if he didn't understand them.]

it's always only their type name so each type will have a different word

yes i know it is weird

[personal profile] stopinthenameofawe 2020-06-14 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Melissa takes the bottle of water, but doesn't open it yet- she hasn't quite adjusted to the fact that she's not currently a vampire. Mostly because thinking about it too hard triggers an existential crisis that she was not expecting and if Melissa is good at anything, it's ignoring potential moral quandaries.

"Melissa," she says, with a nod of thanks as she lifts up the bottle, "I will say, I do think this is worse than security guard training. ...Though we may need to go back and talk about that 'other world' comment, because holy shit did you run through that way too casually."
stopinthenameofawe: (Melissa [Hold on a second])

[personal profile] stopinthenameofawe 2020-06-14 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
that sounds insanely annoying

but i guess people can get used to anything

[lord knows she didn't think she'd get used to be a vampire and now here she is all human again trying to do stupid shit like this in order to avoid confronting that.]
stopinthenameofawe: (Default)

[personal profile] stopinthenameofawe 2020-06-14 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
huh

good to know

how do you find out if they can do that?

[she hopes this one doesn't have the trust requirement. she's not... great at that kind of thing........]
worthallthis: (told you so)

[personal profile] worthallthis 2020-06-14 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
they don't all do it all the time just when they need to say something or get your attention

yours is probably trying to tell you something if it won't stop
stopinthenameofawe: (Melissa [Cautious])

[personal profile] stopinthenameofawe 2020-06-14 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
ok but i can't understand it so how the fuck am i supposed to figure out what wants

how does body language even WORK for these things
worthallthis: (thinking)

[personal profile] worthallthis 2020-06-14 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
gestures and pantomime mostly and also expressions are usually pretty human-like

standard animal body language too but i don't know what animal that would be like

some kind of lizard maybe
carbonatedscientist: (talking)

[personal profile] carbonatedscientist 2020-06-14 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll admit that normally such an approach is beneath me, but I'd like to think that would make more of an impression in this instance--belittling another creature like that is poor form.

We've all had them following us around; you'd do well to make friends with it.
