[The light of her flashlight beams towards the direction of the man who spoke, covered in those rat creatures. What were they called again? Rattata? But what catches her eye is that this man looks like he's seen much better days what with one eye covered from what she can tell.
Willow doesn't judge, she herself prefers sleeping outside in the comfort of a tree where she can surround herself with the strange birds of this world she understands somehow. Birds were still birds no matter their world it would seem. The only thing she would, and does, judge are the humans themselves.
Seeking some answers, even if only returned with minuscule amounts, Willow sighs in his direction.]
You appear to have known better days, were they caused of this world or another? Perhaps your homeland caused that? [There it is, her curiosity despite all else.]

[Fortunately, the Rattata make a good alarm system. While they perk their ears up from their various positions, whether hanging from Dimitri's knee or lounging on his stomach, none of them seem particularly frightened or wary. Just curious, much like they'd been when he'd settled down.]
[With that much checked on, Dimitri tilts his head back.]
There was a war, and now I am dead. I imagine that shows well enough, when it comes to my person.
[At least, that's his personal theory on all of.... this.]

With the light lowered, and should he be able to see her features better, he would see that her ears come to a tip unlike a human's ear that is rounded. Clearly showing she's not of this world nor is she human.]
Ah, war... vile things they are, senseless death and bloodshed caused mainly by a mortal's greed and lust for power. If this is the afterlife, truly it seems like it's not one that's awful, but I've my doubts it is the afterlife as I see none I know that've perished in my own homeland. Although the insufferable background music could be done without, even if it were the case.

[A very trivial... and mundane... and never ending punishment. Especially depending on where one is in this bizarre existence. Dimitri is half traveling just to find somewhere that isn't annoying.]
[There's also the lack of purpose in his life along with what feels like an eternal torment, but... He's not going to just spill that out. Not yet, anyway. The night is young, and he still can't sleep.]
[As the light lowers, he considers the young woman properly, gaze flicking momentarily to her ears. It's definitely something he'd never seen before in Fodlan... but at the same time, he's not entirely sure what to make of it, and if it even has any impact on him at all. The answer to that last one, he decides on fairly quickly.]
[She hasn't attacked him, so there's no problem.]
There are people who sided with me that I've seen here... Although even that brings up more questions than answers.
Although, perhaps a more relevant question would be what draws you to this place.

[A punishment befitting of what she herself did, although not a crime, she still performed ancient magicks of her kind to bind a soul to her to prevent a death. What one would do for their loved ones can drive rationality from existence in the moment of action. She was certainly no exception, and she curses the gods for ripping her from that person into this world, not that they'd hear her curses here.
She sees no reason to cause the man harm, not when he's not attacked her either. If anything, she's more curious of him than feeling hostility.]
I've learnt in my many, many years that unlikely allies can come at a moment's notice and change how you view the world, and the people themselves. [After all, that's how she met the person she bound her soul to, the woman was from an enemy race yet they formed a connection Willow thought impossible beforehand.] As for what draws me? Simple. I wish to know more of the magnificent legend of the birds that once resided here, the locals dare not deign to part with their knowledge to an outsider.

[But their conversation has turned to more immediate matters, such as the building they're in, and Dimitri allows his gaze to drift over what is illuminated from the shine of the flashlight.]
Legendary birds... It is talk that constantly rises in this town. [Enough that even a feral hermit like Dimitri to catch wind of it.] Such a place seems to be one of pride to them, although I cannot see why.
Those that resided here... have clearly long abandoned it, and thus them. But then, I would say they have not earned such attention.

She shakes her head, crossing her arms in front of her, flashlight now pointing to a wall that had charred writing and some picture depiction of both towers at full height on a wall. Maybe now the value is lost, but in the past? Certainly something sacred had to have called a powerful bird here. Something calls her besides the knowledge, after all she resonates with birds being a "legendary" Phoenix herself. Or rather, WAS one before she arrived with only understanding the birds and having them drawn to her intact.]
Been here long enough have you to hear such talk? Pray, tell me such words you've heard? Even if not seeming of import, history still tells a tale with minor details. [A pause before she shakes her head. She seems to have forgotten manners, something she must rectify immediately.] Ah. Do forgive me, my manners have escaped me, my name is Willow.

[Still... Perhaps it is some form of old habit that has him incline his head towards Willow.]
...Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd, of the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus.
[It doesn't matter what the Empire tries to call it. It is and always will be Faerghus. If only he hadn't failed to take that snake's head when he was living...]
[One of the Rattata's squirms up along his shoulder, nosing around in his hair, and Dimitri snaps out of it before he can get completely lost in his own head- something that tends to happen often. Reaching up, he steadies the creature.]
I claim no expertise on this matter... Only what I have heard. This place is fond of its legends... and so there are claims this was once the home of a powerful bird, before a fire chased it away.

[Deciding that in the moment, Dimitri wasn't a threat to her at all, she steps a couple lengths closer and seats herself in front of him. Not too close as to suffocate space, but close enough that she doesn't have to project her voice and disturb the creatures that lived there. He Murkrow hops off her shoulder and curiously hops closer to Dimitri, keeping her distance as necessary. Willow plucks the Rookidee out of her hood and places the small bird in her lap, scratching it softly, while Fletchinder lets herself out of her pokeball and sits next to her trainer and keeps a sharp eye on the rattata around her.]
I ask not for expertise, only things you have heard. None are ever true experts of legend save those of legend in which they are about. I hear tell of a rainbow bird that resides in the other tower, but not much of the one that resided here before its destruction. But one thing that I find curious is the rainbow bird gave life to three creatures that burned in this here tower? Is this something you've heard too? That creature, if legend is true, would be called a Phoenix in my homeland. [in which the irony is not lost on her, that she is drawn to the same type of creature that she is herself.]

[He doesn't move when she ventures closer, either, merely adjusts his legs so that he can see her slightly better. The Rattata clinging to his knee stays right there despite the movement, just watching curiously along with all of its kin as the two bird-like Pokemon come closer.]
Yes... I have heard of such a creature. The legend is apparently well known, in this town if nowhere else.
[Well, all towns and cities have their own legends that an outsider would be unaware of upon first stepping past the gates. That much isn't surprising. As the Murkrow approaches, Dimitri glances at it with at least a bit more... liveliness than before, and he shifts his arm until his hand is loosely held out towards it.]
[He knew some nobles familiar with falconry and the like, but he was more a person of horses and hounds... and that's not even taking into account how different these strange creatures are to those he knew from home. He sticks with this for now, a simple offering of his hand to inspect if the creature wishes to. In the meanwhile, the Rattata all over him peer over at their company, each seeming to have their attention snagged by a different bird... including the human-looking one speaking.]
I have overheard the name of the creature in the other tower... Ho-Oh, if my memory serves.

Murkrow looks back to Willow, who nods approvingly, and then gently pushes her beak into Dimitri's hand as she hops closer to the outstretched hand. She's a cautious bird, but if her trainer sees no threat then she'll ease up and be friendly. She does eye the rattata, just in case any of them try and take a bite out of her, but so long as they don't, she won't attack.
Willow turns her attention back to Dimitri and gives her head a slight tilt.]
Ho-Oh you say? So I was correct on the name I'd overheard mention of on the edge of town. This world has many a curious tale to it, rich in history, with its own elemental beasts.
no subject
[Dimitri, for his part, just patiently waits for the Murkrow to take her time, and is... extraordinarily careful in just touching his fingers to her head, like he thinks he'll shatter her with one errant movement.]
[Because of that, it takes him a delayed second to respond to Willow's own words.]
It's strange... There are so many creatures that I am unfamiliar with, or would be labeled as demonic beasts... and then some that I have not seen at all, such as pegasi, or wyverns.
[Some dragon type pokemon come close... but nothing is quite the same.]
