ALSO, AS PROMPTS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION, and in the spirit of Halloween: August's GHOST TRICK event!

O-Bon festival: The streets are lined with NPC-run stalls for food, games, and the assorted tchotchkes of every summer festival you’ve ever seen in your animes! There’s Goldeen Scoop, heaping cones of Swirlix Candy, Test Your STRENGTH (there are two different machines for people and Pokémon; HM04 not required); basically, if you can think of it, it’s there. There will also be a yukata rental stall if you want to go full hog on the cultural side of things. Ecruteak boasts a small stage where the Kimono Girls give a short performance once every two hours; the festivities in Lavender Town are a little quieter, but they also have Haunter-shaped ice cream treats. When you lick them, they Lick you!

On the last evening of the festival in either location, there will be a large bonfire and traditional bon-odori dance in which everyone is welcome to participate. In Lavender Town only, they also set paper lamps afloat in the water past the cliffs.

Who you gonna call?: Remember “The Ghost of Maiden’s Peak”? Well, some of the local Gastly, Duskull, and Yamask seem to have gotten it into their heads that this kind of tomfoolery is somehow good medicine. If your trainer had someone in their life, someone now dead, that they have unresolved business with, these ghosties may take it upon themselves to play a little dress-up and follow your trainer around in the guise of said dead person until the issue is resolved. It’s their way of saying thank you for all the spiritual appeasement of the festival.

These ghosts won’t speak; Pokémon don’t talk, after all. So yes, your trainer is going to be followed around by some silent echo of their past who will not leave them alone.

Or, of course, write your own!

[He's staring again but he really can't help it. He gives his head a small shake attempting to answer the question as best he can.]

Well. I think it's because it looks like a cotton ball and because people think they're clever. Also, sugar is not something people should be eating. Too much is bad for you. Especially this kind. So if sugar is right there in the name people won't be as keen to eat it. People feel better about eating things that are bad for them if the problem with it isn't being shoved in their face.`

You don't seem to have a problem with any of that though.

[Not a nice thing to say. He can't help it. He's a doctor too. Making unwarranted and snide comments were basically in the job description. His own personal job description.]

Bad for you? [Amethyst stares dumbly up at him, mouth hanging open slightly, her lips stained bright pink.] Psssh. I've never gotten sick from eating sugar before! Why would I start now?

[She is 100% forgetting that she's human now, and her body actually has to digest things now. Leave it to Amethyst to continue eating garbage, both figuratively and literally, until she makes herself ungodly sick.]

Well... [A fair point, maybe?] It's never too late to be hit with diabetes or something like that. Eating the wrong things can essentially kill key organs in your body and stop you from enjoying sugars, fatty foods and lots of other processed things.

[He takes a careful bite of the cotton candy, offering a shrug at his own words.]

But who am I to tell you all that. I'm a former surgeon not a dietitian. So you keep doing you.

[Always so charming.]

[His reply garners no change in her facial expression, save for a slight wrinkling of her brow.]

What's a diabetes?

It's a metabolic disease in which the body’s inability to produce any or enough insulin causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood. Or that's the dictionary definition anyway.

In much more simpler terms, if you eat too much sugar your body stops being able to process the things it needs to handle it. Best case scenario you need a shot to help your body out. Worst case... you die.

[He shrugs and continues to much on his treat. Most worst case medical scenarios end with death. But he's just here to tell it like it is. Bedside manner is not where he excels.]
