ALSO, AS PROMPTS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION, and in the spirit of Halloween: August's GHOST TRICK event!
O-Bon festival: The streets are lined with NPC-run stalls for food, games, and the assorted tchotchkes of every summer festival you’ve ever seen in your animes! There’s Goldeen Scoop, heaping cones of Swirlix Candy, Test Your STRENGTH (there are two different machines for people and Pokémon; HM04 not required); basically, if you can think of it, it’s there. There will also be a yukata rental stall if you want to go full hog on the cultural side of things. Ecruteak boasts a small stage where the Kimono Girls give a short performance once every two hours; the festivities in Lavender Town are a little quieter, but they also have Haunter-shaped ice cream treats. When you lick them, they Lick you!
On the last evening of the festival in either location, there will be a large bonfire and traditional bon-odori dance in which everyone is welcome to participate. In Lavender Town only, they also set paper lamps afloat in the water past the cliffs.
Who you gonna call?: Remember “The Ghost of Maiden’s Peak”? Well, some of the local Gastly, Duskull, and Yamask seem to have gotten it into their heads that this kind of tomfoolery is somehow good medicine. If your trainer had someone in their life, someone now dead, that they have unresolved business with, these ghosties may take it upon themselves to play a little dress-up and follow your trainer around in the guise of said dead person until the issue is resolved. It’s their way of saying thank you for all the spiritual appeasement of the festival.
These ghosts won’t speak; Pokémon don’t talk, after all. So yes, your trainer is going to be followed around by some silent echo of their past who will not leave them alone.
Or, of course, write your own!

[action!]
Nonetheless, he and his Pokemon follow the pair in a hurry, and he places himself calmly just between the two before any contact can be made. The Skitty on his shoulder seems unaffected, sensing no hostility from the Golett, while an Espurr at his feet stares in curiosity at the peculiar human.]
What's going on here? Are you all right?
Re: [action!]
But the Golett just looks between them. It points to an item in the person's hand; a pokeball. It's pokeball. Upon not being hurt, the newcomer relaxed a little. But they were still very confused.
"It is not a Guardian? Or...is it not attacking because I am not Rythulian?" They looked down at themselves, concerned, and then to Anders. "What are we?"
no subject
You are a human now, regardless of the form you had in your home world. As for this creature...
[As he pulls out his Gear to scan the creature, the one on his shoulder yawns. More of this nonsense.]
It says here it was created by an ancient civilization in order to protect it. So I suppose it is a guardian of sorts, though judging by the look of things, it has no reason to attack you.
no subject
"Human...I have never been born like this. Or so far from the Mountain." They looked up and around. There was so much green. They had mostly known yellow, pink and golden sands, the dark blue of a forgotten world and the white...the blinding white. They looked back up at their companion.
"Are you sure that it will not hurt us? Guardians are not friendly to Rythulians, or to any that carry life." The Golett remained docile, simply watching.
no subject
I'm fairly certain. That ball you're holding -- you can use it to recall the Golett. If I'm not mistaken, it is loyal to you. Everyone receives a friendly creature upon their arrival here. Pinsy here was mine. [He gives a nod to the Skitty, who barely bats an ear at being addressed.]
no subject
But at the mention of the skitty, they gasped! Their eyed widened in awe and fascination as they moved a little closer. "A Pinsy...! Are there more of them? Of human?" Three beings together! They had heard rumours of travelers forming groups of three but more was unheard of from their home. But...so was grass. And buildings. And no Mountain.
"What is your call?" She asked them both that. Rythulian was the name of their kind, but they knew each other by their gylphs and call - serving as their name, to humans.
no subject
Ah... Her name is Pinsy. She is a "Skitty." I haven't seen another one myself, but they're out there, and so are many more humans.
I'm called Anders. And yourself?
(the vid is from very early in the game!)
They smiled and looked a little closer at Pinsy. "There are more...many, many more? Is it because there is grass and birds, that there are so many?"
no subject
I... am afraid I don't know how to pronounce that. [He feels like a bit of an asshole. Just a little bit.]
I think they just live here... The birds are Pokemon, too. But I'm sure some of them eat the grass, and perhaps each other.
Are there not many animals where you came from?
no subject
"No. There were once. But before my time, they vanished...my home is a desert, with no birds, or grass, or Pokemon, or Human. Only few Rythulian, the Guardians and Cloth Creatures. Everything else is gone."
They slowly reached up, towards Pinsy. May they pet you, Pinsy Skitty?
no subject
[It sounds like a dreary place. This person may be one of those who's better off here than at home, something Anders still can't fathom.
The Skitty tilts her head in suspicion, then decides on turning her head away with disregard. You may touch her, Human Not-Human.]
I'm sure it will take some time getting used to this place, but you can. Many have. And don't forget you have a friend of your own to help you along.
no subject
"You're so soft..." they murmured, turning to Anders with a smile. "Yes! I always welcome companions! You may call me...hm." They didn't actually know what 'human names' were like, or might to be like. "I only know Rythulian names and gylphs."
no subject
Meanwhile, Anders gives a somewhat guilty smile; it wasn't quite what he meant by that, but he doesn't disagree.]
I would be happy to call you friend. Though, perhaps you could think on a name for your Pokemon? It may make you feel better about their company.
no subject
"They are just like the Guardians but smaller. Not as long." When the Golett reached out to offer a hand to their trainer, the Rythulian drew back again.
no subject
[The Espurr at his feet waddles over to the strange Pokemon to "say hello," so to speak, and give a little wave. Maybe if the Rythulian sees Golett having a positive interaction, they'll be more comfortable with it! He's helping!]
