O-Bon festival: The streets are lined with NPC-run stalls for food, games, and the assorted tchotchkes of every summer festival you’ve ever seen in your animes! There’s Goldeen Scoop, heaping cones of Swirlix Candy, Test Your STRENGTH (there are two different machines for people and Pokémon; HM04 not required); basically, if you can think of it, it’s there. There will also be a yukata rental stall if you want to go full hog on the cultural side of things. Ecruteak boasts a small stage where the Kimono Girls give a short performance once every two hours; the festivities in Lavender Town are a little quieter, but they also have Haunter-shaped ice cream treats. When you lick them, they Lick you!

On the last evening of the festival in either location, there will be a large bonfire and traditional bon-odori dance in which everyone is welcome to participate. In Lavender Town only, they also set paper lamps afloat in the water past the cliffs.

Who you gonna call?: Remember “The Ghost of Maiden’s Peak”? Well, some of the local Gastly, Duskull, and Yamask seem to have gotten it into their heads that this kind of tomfoolery is somehow good medicine. If your trainer had someone in their life, someone now dead, that they have unresolved business with, these ghosties may take it upon themselves to play a little dress-up and follow your trainer around in the guise of said dead person until the issue is resolved. It’s their way of saying thank you for all the spiritual appeasement of the festival.

These ghosts won’t speak; Pokémon don’t talk, after all. So yes, your trainer is going to be followed around by some silent echo of their past who will not leave them alone.

[ ... So, anyone who encounters Ezio at the festival will notice a little boy tagging along. Ezio looks troubled more often than not; why this place decided to remind him of his dead little brother, he will never understand. He's aware of the fact that this isn't Petruccio; nothing can bring back the dead, and when Ezio offers the boy a feather pendant, the little boy doesn't react as he should.

... Ah, whatever. He'll enjoy the festival as much as he can with the reminder of his failures walking along behind him. Ezio's still getting used to everything in this world, so food? He's trying a lot of it. Games? Sure, why not. He's really good at the knife-throwing game. Test your strength? It's a chance to show off.

And soon enough, he gathers up quite a few prizes. So whoever he runs into will get Ezio clearing his throat. ]

Signore-- [ or signora ] --would you like to take some of these off my hands?

[ After the ghost of his little brother who died far too young is gone, Ezio can go back to traveling. It bothers the hell out of him that he can climb the tallest building in Florence, but he can't climb a damned ledge that's only feet high. Anyone who passes by will notice Ezio spouting curses at the thing. ]

Figlio d'un cane... There is clearly sorcery at work here.

[ ... Alternately, Ezio's in Goldenrod City, checking it out a little! And he's considering climbing one of those tall buildings. But something catches his eye. ]

Trubbish...

[ The Litten at his side puffs up and hisses, tail switching in irritation. ]

Easy now, piccina. It seems this one wants to join us. But a nickname... Claudia, [ he says, addressing the cat, ] what do you think of "Rodrigo"? A fitting name, no?

[ ... As it turns out, as much respect as Ezio's learned to display for the dead, he can be pretty petty. ]

I don't think anyone really has a better explanation than sorcery right now.

There is no other explanation. This is nonsense. [ He gestures vaguely above them. ] And this music. It's enough to drive a man crazy!

I know a thing or two about science and... yeah, there's nothing to explain either of those things.

[She sounds FRUSTRATED about that!]

[ She should be frustrated!! ]

I don't believe science could explain these creatures, either.

[ He doesn't mind them at all, especially since his are fighters! Especially Claudia, the little spitfire. It's still strange, though. ]

[ IT IS FRUSTRATING, AS A GIRL OF SCIENCE ]

A year ago I probably would have said the same thing, but they're not that far off from... someone I used to know.

[ Other worlds continue to baffle him. He just had to deal with stabbing things to hell and back... but then again, he did experience the Apple of Eden for himself.

... Still weird as hell, though. ]

I hope your acquaintance did not have a penchant for setting things on fire.

No! I mean, not on purpose, of course, he always had the best intentions. If he had started a fire, it'd be to teach us how to put it out, that kind of thing.

[ She sighs. ]

He was a weird outlier though, even for my world. Not a whole lot else like him.

Ah, capsico, I meant no offense. It seems you had quite the eccentric mentor, si?

You can say that again. I can almost hear him now - "In assassination, as in Pokemon battles..."

[ Manami is not... amazing at realizing that her life is weird, sometimes. ]

It would seem you and I have more in common than I thought, signora.

Oh, I mean... I'm not a professional or anything! I wasn't even the best in my class, but... that was what we were learning. Technically.

Do state secrets still have to be secrets if you're in another dimension?

A kindred spirit is just that, no matter one's skill level. To think, a whole class to teach assassination...

[ He's impressed tbh. ]

It would be best to keep those secrets just that, even if you are in another dimension.

I guess so... well, that's what it was. But it was more than that, I mean... he always made it clear that he was prepping us to do whatever we want to in life, assassination or not. But he used assassination to give us the skills we'd need to excel in the future. I want to be a scientist, for example, but he gave me a push by helping me with poisoning. Things like that.

My friend Leonardo would have taken well to you. While he preferred the arts, he was quite the scientist as well. He created poison darts for me to use in my own assassination pursuits.
