So once Kirishima is outside, he may find himself near a tall, similarly redheaded man who's built like a brick house and gently petting a Mudbray to calm him down.]
Ah, I see you made it out as well. These Onix tend to go on rampages quite easily...

As someone who is rather obsessive about his own physique and the concept of manliness in general, Kirishima has to stare a moment before he bursts into an amiable, if awkward little laugh. He straightens up immediately to not look as out-of-breath as he's feeling. ]
Yeah? I mean... [ Rubbing the back of his neck. ] I'd probably get pretty mad too if someone just walked up and punched me in the ass and I think I'm a pretty patient guy.
[ Which he now realizes might not make a lot of sense. He cringes a bit sheepishly, the gesture showing off rows of clenched, serrated teeth as he glances over to Machop. ]
It was an accident. Sorry if we scared you guys.

I'm alright, though it seems Umatarou here was a bit shaken. I suppose horses will always scare easily, no matter what world you are in.
[And Tonbokiri would know, having a lot of experience looking after horses back home. Though at least his Mudbray seems to have calmed down, nosing at some blades of grass.]

[ Though he can't help but share a sidelong look with his Machop. Kirishima ridiculously feels kind of like a coward for running away, nevermind the fact they were running from a giant rock snake monster. Judging from the folded arms and the way Machop won't look at anyone else gathered, he guesses the little dude feels something of the same.
Kirishima returns his attention to the man and his... mule? Horse? The guy says horse, so horse it is. He's never seen a Mudbray, in any case. Reaching for his bag, Kirishima opens it and fishes around for his PokeDex. On the way, however, he's distracted by finding a bottle of water.
Wrenching that sucker right out! He cracks open the top with a twist and then nudges his Machop with his leg, silently handing the bottle down to the Pokemon. Machop perks out of his sulk to greedily grab hold of the thing with both hands and begins to guzzle. Kirishima cringes. He wanted some of that too, buddy... oh well. ]
What about the war horses that go charging into battle? Where I'm from, people had to fight with swords and spears and bows and the armies that won usually did it on the backs of horses.
[ He sounds a bit excited with the explanation, though he's also smiling at Mudbray in what he hopes to be an encouraging manner. It's okay, buddy! ]
Ah, I'm Kirishima by the way! This is Machop.

Ah, yes, I am familiar with those horses. It's much the same where I'm from. Though those horses had to be as well-trained as the people who rode them, so that they could serve their riders well. No doubt that is also the case with these creatures.
[Of course, what Tonbokiri doesn't mention is that way back in those days, he was one of those spears that samurai would carry into battle on horseback. And now that he has a human body, he can ride into battle on horseback himself. He's kept largely quiet about what his true nature is while he's been here, as he doubts most people would believe him anyway.
He also can't help but laugh a little at Machop guzzling all that water. Sorry, Kirishima.] I'm sure your friend needs the hydration after what just happened.

It's okay. There's gotta be a river or something nearby - you can hear the water running in the cave. That or we can walk back to town.
[ Clearly he should have taken a couple of sips himself before handing the bottle over, but live and learn. He can bear it; his Pokemon takes priority over him. Speaking of, there's a loud, crackle-crunch sound as Machop attempts to squeeze the last vestiges of moisture out of the bottle. Another note to self - buy a big jug that's more refillable and less breakable. ]
You're a trainer too, right, Tonbokiri-sama? [ He certainly trains himself, at least, Kirishima has already noted with some admiration. ] So I'm sure with some practice you could have a war horse if you wanted! Nobody really just starts out being brave.
no subject
I'm sure Umatarou here will become a fine steed in time. Apparently he is supposed to...evolve, I believe? At some point in his training. [At least, that's what he's been told.]
no subject
[ He challenges the other with a hand on his hip, a cock of the head, and a playful little grin. He perks at being told the Pokemon should evolve. Right! He was doing something before! ]
Oh, you didn't get a PokéGear when you came here?
[ Kirishima lifts his bag once more to rifle through it, eventually coming up with the aforementioned device. ]
This thing's amazing!
[ After adeptly altering something on the device ( kids and their smartphones, amirite ), Kirishima points it towards Umatarou and the electronic voice begins its spiel of introducing the pokemon. His jaw drops a bit at the revelation that this creature eats mud, quickly looking towards the Mudbray's mouth. He'd just assumed it was eating grass! ]
no subject
I do have one, but I still haven't quite gotten the hang of using it yet. I'm afraid I'm not the best with technology...
[Tonbokiri may be currently from the 22nd century, but being as old-fashioned as he is, he still hasn't really gotten used to modern tech. Other swords may have embraced it, but he's still an old soul.
Meanwhile, Umatarou is happily munching on some grass and the dirt it was growing in. Delicious!]
no subject
That's cool, man. I can show you what I've figured out with it so far if ya want? It came with a manual but it's even better to learn by doing, right?
[ It's okay, old man, he's got you covered. ]
Yeah, it says here that Mudbray evolves into something called Mudsdale!
Hey, do you mind if we go find somewhere to sit down, though?
[ This could take a little bit and honestly, that cardio on top of the weight-training he just did with Machop means he could use a little break off of his feet. ]
no subject
[Going to different time periods to prevent history from being changed is one thing, but waking up in a different world entirely is another.]
no subject
[ He's running his mouth on his way over to the grassy little ledge that leads out of the cave, making a seat of it without much mind for getting his clothes a bit dirty. ]
Alright, get your 'Gear! First thing's the easiest one. Just point the top of it to any Pokemon and it should tell you about it!
[ Kirishima gestures to the space around them. Of course the Mudbray and Machop aren't the only creatures out here; there's tall grass and trees that host more wild Pokemon as well. Speaking of Machop, he is slowly circling Umatarou, hands on his hips as he sizes up the larger monster not unlike someone examining their car for damages. ]
no subject
I see... [Meanwhile, Tonbokiri takes out his 'gear and points it at Machop, just to make sure he can do it properly.]
Ah, so your friend is a Machop. And they are a Fighting type...does that mean they are particularly skilled in combat in comparison to other types?
no subject
There's a challenge between his vocalizations and his gestures. Want to see if you're strong enough to unseat me if I climb on your back? ]
Well, he's my only Pokemon for now. [ Kirishima rubs the back of his neck, grinning. ] But we're 10 and 3 for wins and losses so far! He's pretty awesome!! He already seems to know a lot of martial arts moves.
But look, these arrow buttons let you move up and down this info like turning a page on a book. If we go down... yeah! You can see here it says he'll evolve into Machoke! And that name's a different color, right? If you want more info on Machoke, you just need to--
[ The teen seems comfortable, maybe even a little excited, to be able to teach. He makes Tonbokiri actually press all the buttons himself since that's the best way Kirishima has learned. ]
no subject
There's so much information in this device...I'm generally more used to books, but this is certainly convenient for learning about all these creatures. [Though Tonbokiri is perfectly fine with letting Kirishima show him how to press the buttons. He usually preferred to leave these things to his more tech-savvy comrades back home, anyway.]
no subject
Yeah, but can you imagine how huge a book like that would be? There's maps and other guides in here too, not to mention a phone. [ Kirishima's eyes widen at the thought. ] And another good thing about this device is that the information can always be updating to the latest. With books they always have to publish a whole other edition. [ A little scowl. ] When I was still in school, that was a huge probl--
YO! MACHOP!
[ Kirishima's complaints about the school textbook scam industry is cut short as he watches his Pokemon leap up onto the back of Tonbokiri's with not even a running start, straddling the other's spine and grabbing fistfuls of mane. Machop gives a battle cry in response, totally ignoring the obvious note of protest in his trainer's voice. It's fine! They agreed!
Of course, Kirishima has no idea, so he's trying to hop off the ledge onto his feet. ]

Umatarou...! What are you doing?!
