[Unfortunately, now that she's figured out how Pokéballs work, she just assumes everybody has or should, so she thinks he's being sarcastic with her.]

[Ignoring Clarisse's rude remarks is honestly an excellent strategy, because she just as quickly moves on from it.]

"Adventured"? [He probably can't see Clarisse roll her eyes, but she does.] I'm just no stranger to the darkness. It's not going to get in my way.

[It still hurts, the loss of her magic. It's always been there, since before she was born. Sometimes she thinks she's more magic than flesh and blood. For it to be gone... and for this to be so casual... Jinx sighs, holding Amalthea close for a second.]

His own pupper, however, decides to prance in a circle around Clarisse in search of a Pokeball, and barks when she thinks she's found it. Maybe she gets too close; she doesn't have a good sense of boundaries.]

[The point of "too close" is not terribly difficult to get to with Clarisse, but, thank goodness, instead of lashing out she takes a wide step away.] Hey.

[But, with a deeply put-upon groan, as if this is a horrific inconvenience upon her, Clarisse takes the Pokéball and releases from it a little Houndour. He shuffles about in place for a moment, catching his bearings and taking note of his new space, then turns his focus to sniffing at the Rockruff in curious greeting.]

Have you seriously not figured out these things? [She shakes the empty Pokéball in emphasis.]

Oh! [ Orpheus's expression lights up - well, sort of. He still looks sort of melancholy and out of it, but compared to a moment ago it's a world of difference. ] How wondrous an invention that must be! I know of but one such creation, that allows for the playing of music without an artist present to operate it, but it is an artifact of the Gods, made in the Underworld itself. That such things could someday become more commonplace is, well. It warms my once-more beating heart to consider.

[ He considers what she has to say next, laughing a little. ]

[Rockruff, for her part, takes Clarisse's retreat in stride, only cocking her head and not getting terribly upset. Plus, look, she's got a new friend almost immediately! She takes the time to sniff back at the Houndour and -- um... so does Razor. At least he's doing it from here he's standing rather than getting on his hands and knees or something.]

[Admittedly, there's something relaxing about this weird dead guy. Maybe it's the fact that she's kind of weird herself, or he's just nice and she's not allowed herself to simply be, among good people, in a very long time. She can't help but smile when he speaks again.]

[Then again, maybe doing anything at all is what's wanted. Who knows what the rules properly are in this place? Ever since going to that club with General Furfur, well, Jazz doesn't like the idea of getting caught in that nonsense again.]

[But, at the same time, if they don't know what's going on, then they can't counter against it. That was another lesson that shitty general taught him - knowing how the trick works is just as important as beating it. Sometimes, that can only happen if you subject yourself to the trick.]

[So, letting out a grumble, Jazz adjusts the bag on his shoulders - his not familiar scurries atop his head at this - and glances around.]

Keeping above passing levels in school while being an underachiever takes work and skill all its own! Even if my academics aren't great staying above the water in school is a skill all its own!

So we do have a guide of some sort at least, and... uh. Whatever this is.[Idly, she clicks the button on the ball- and much to her shock, a red light absorbs the unicorn. Oh no. Oh god. Did she just eat it?!] WHAT-

[The only thing keeping her from panicking completely is that the little unicorn looked completely okay, if not delighted at the prospect of. Whatever just happened. And is equally happy to be let back out when she does it again, trotting around making happy pony noises. This is going to be bad for her heart oh jeeze.]

[Did she anger anyone...? While she tries to calm down, she flips through the pages of the book idly, skimming but not really taking anything in just yet.]

... Actually, yeah? I literally just sabotaged one of the greatest criminals in recent history- and ditched my school since it wasn't benefiting me anymore. But she started it, frankly, and I don't think Madame Rouge or her allies are capable of anything like this- and I know my old teachers aren't. What about you?

"--Oh!" Millennial Tree Cookie's expression brightens at the sight of the little lizard scrambling over the child's face, because that is in fact incredibly charming.

The transfer of said lizard to him is a little more of a surprise. He looks down at Lazzo with a start, raising his bright white eyebrows. "...Hello, little one."

He assumes she's not referring to mosaic work or some similar thing, since those technically don't use paint but are much older practices, to his knowledge. ]
