[ He considers what she has to say next, laughing a little. ]
It is more that I meant, I did not wish to question you, or your choice in words, out of turn. And I should not have! You meant exactly as you said. But perhaps you are right, as in doing so I learned of something marvelous, and if you take no offense, I suppose there is no harm done?

Yeah, it's pretty great actually. Especially now that they can be portable. We can also record images without paint- maybe they have something like that here for you to see too. [She does make a bit of a face at the mentions of the Gods though. It's not hard to guess what pantheon he's referring to.] That sounds about right...
Oh- I don't think I got your name? I'm Jinx.
[Admittedly, there's something relaxing about this weird dead guy. Maybe it's the fact that she's kind of weird herself, or he's just nice and she's not allowed herself to simply be, among good people, in a very long time. She can't help but smile when he speaks again.]
No offense taken at all. Like I said, it's good to ask. ... But also, I'm a nerd who likes to learn things, so maybe I might be an outlier.

[ The recording of sound he can understand - like an echo, but preserved in some arcane way beyond his immediate reckoning - but to make an image without using paint is a little beyond him. He assumes she's not referring to mosaic work or some similar thing, since those technically don't use paint but are much older practices, to his knowledge. ]
In any case, my name is Orpheus. It is a pleasure to meet you, Jinx. And I know not what a 'nerd' is, but curiosity is a considerable and admirable blessing. Also, sometimes, a terrible curse, but it is nice to think that the positives outweigh that, more often than not.
I THOUGHT I GOT TO THIS WHOOPS
I mean, paint does still exist, but some people make an art of how they capture the still images instead- how they frame it and what they choose to show in it, the angle and lighting. Maybe I can find a photography book and show you...?
[ ... OH. OKAY- She's not gonna bring it up. Not gonna bring it up! Who wants to talk about the tragedies of your life, especially the most famous one, with a teenage girl anyways? No, no, she's going to focus on the nicer things, like the fact that she has a unicorn, and that there's a purple bird with feathers that look like fans. Yeah. ]
It's a term that means I prioritize learning more often than not- there's other associations though- annnd it used to be an insult I guess? But not anymore.
[ At this point, the unicorn- how would Amalthea sound as a name, Jinx wonders- settles, curling up beside her new trainer. Her main is soft and delightfully curly, Jinx finds. Despite the rude awakening and the situation... she can't find it in her to be too upset right now. (But she is still upset, don't get me wrong.) ]
NO WORRIES!!
[ If Orpheus notices that she's recognized his name, he doesn't give any indication, moving on smoothly from one subject to the next. ]
What a strange thing to be an insult - although I suppose I understand it to a degree, as there is a certain kind of person who values action over thought or introspection, and perhaps would take offense at their pursuit in what they view as excess. I am glad it has lost that implication in your time and place, though. There is much to be said about a culture by what words it deems insult and what it deems praise.
Re: NO WORRIES!!
Yes, exactly!
[ She enjoyed traditional art above all, but she was fond of all forms- and being the perfectionist she is, she would like to say she was fairly skilled with a camera. Maybe someday she'd be able to show him her own work. ]
You're not wrong, but... ... Eh, the less said about home the better, maybe. [ jinx please- ] Still, I suppose if we're going to be here, I might as well start figuring out what here is... Once I figure out what I'm even going to do.

We do seem to be well spoiled for choice, here, turned out on our own with little in the way of direction, much like a youth leaving the house of their parents for the first time and venturing into the world. [ He glances back at 'mom's house, and thinks about how on the nose that was. ] Though I have gathered that this place specifically is called Pallet Town, from passing conversations. A strange name for a town, but very quaint!

[ Then again, it's exactly as put-together and ready for oddities as Jump City is ready for dealing with the influx of independent or emancipated teenagers... which is to say, it's not asking questions and meddling. So not very, in many ways. ]
Pallet Town, huh... Like a painter's pallet, maybe? Something poetic about a starting point or something. I don't know, I'm honestly just guessing. [ And yet. ]

It is very fitting, though. Poetic, like you said. I can't help but wonder if that aspect, at least, was deliberate on someone's part.

[ Granted, that could also be her disconnect with small towns- she's been a city girl all her life, after all, so this tiny little village with it's literal background music was almost jarring, even without the circumstances. ]
cw: unreality????
[ He says this with utter seriousness, and even seems to pause and consider it himself for a moment. ]
Or perhaps this world is just very quaint and very strange, and we should enjoy it for what it is. Would you like to get up and walk with me, for a while? I heard tell that there is an orchard at the edge of town, and I should very much like to see it.
Re: cw: unreality????
That sounds nice, yeah.
[ Without a second thought she offers a hand to help him up, and Amalthea begins to trot around happily. Adventure!!!! ]
