New Bark Town

[The first thing Tifa notices is how clear the air is. There's birds chirping and grass growing and large fluffy clouds. No dust, no smoke, no fumes. The home is nice enough, and she hopes that "Mom" isn't too lonely with all the people coming through, but the sky, that's something else entirely. So for awhile, she sits down on one of those ledges, the sort you can jump down from but not up, hands crossed over her knees and wind blowing through her hair. A soft fuzzy animal with flames running along its back sits curled up in her lap, and she wonders why it doesn't burn her.]

I've read that you can battle with these pokemon, is that true? Do they like fighting? Or do they just fight because we make them?

mine seems to enjoy it quite well, and i've heard the same from others. 

they clearly possess extraordinary power. are you really that concerned?

[smashthem]

Having great power doesn't always mean you want to use it. And violence can be a terrible thing if it's demanded from you.

But if that's the way they are, then it's not so bad.

if you don't like it, i doubt anyone is going to force you. it seems such a waste, though. why hang a perfectly sharpened sword on a wall when you could use it as intended?

of course, i'm aware that an animal thinks and a sword doesn't. i've just yet to meet a creature here who doesn't want to fight, even a little.

I don't mind fighting, either. But I wanna fight for better reasons than just because a guidebook says that's just how things are.

see if your new pet likes it, then.

and even if they don't... they aren't going to be able to defend themselves very well if they never train.

just be careful with that. the locals tend to get testy if you fight on behalf of your pets.

if they don't want to fight, they'll make it clear. it's just on you to listen. but i don't think you'll have to worry about missing the signs???

tbh i was really worried about that sort of thing too, but it's a matter of the individual pokémon, and of listening.

i definitely understand. my first one was a baby unicorn, and she just seemed so clumsy in the snow!! and they wanted me to send her out to fight?!

... and then my companion's dog got mad at him for not letting her fight MORE and it was just very strange. so. yeah.

I guess pets can be as strange as people are, huh?

but yeah, i don't think you're going to have to worry about yours as much. just pay attention to when it's trying to say no.

do you think you'll be doing the gym challenge? each major city has a special arena to challenge a trainer who specializes in a certain elemental type. i haven't started yet, but it's a definite goal for me and my team!

except allium, who wants to nap. but that's ok.

I think it'd be up to the pokemon more than me. But the gyms sound like a great way to test your strength, so I'm sure some of mine will take it on eventually.

i'm sure the ones who'll be down will be really down. but yeah, that's what i've been told!

it'll be nice to do some fighting that isn't so consequence-heavy tbh. they treat it more like... intense but fun sparring matches.
