what kind of weapons did you have before you got here?

that seems a little unfair. some pokemon are reputed to be quite dangerous. are trainers expected to give up on them and abandon them, or else be doomed to a life of taking the fall for them?

oh, teyvat has a little bit of everything -- bows, lances, cannons, catalysts -- but personally, i prefer the tried and true sword. the elegance of disciplined swordplay is simply unsurpassed.

What? Oh. They're not domesticated if you can't control them. Besides, I doubt they've even ever heard of a death sentence here.

[Felix changes the subject quickly, though.]

So you're a swordsman. This world may not allow real weapons, but practice weapons are fair game. The way you speak of it, it sounds like you believe you're pretty strong.

[Technically, he isn't asking a question, but it's a clear challenge.]

Well, certainly I am strong. Though the way you put it sounds like you think I have delusions of grandeur! I doubt I could have earned a position as Knight Captain through trickery alone. [Though saying it, it sounds kind of fun!]

I'm guessing... you're the sort who has to test his mettle against everyone who can so much as lift a dagger?

Delusions? No. I've been looking for good sparring partners to keep my skills sharp, since there is no battle in this world. If you are one, I'm interested. I have no use for training with anyone who isn't worth my time.

[Based on that explanation alone, Kaeya doesn't seem exceptionally keen. As proud of himself as he is, it's been quite nice not having to lift a finger here.]

We agree then; you shouldn't be! My duties never cease. I spend day and night keeping order, fighting crime, defending my nation... My life has belonged to the people and the people alone for many years. This place is a well-earned vacation, I'd say! There's nothing I can do for Mondstadt from here, so I might as well take what reprieve I can get.

[Little does Felix know, he's just about as enthusiastic about said duties as he's ever been.]

[As the man talks, Felix watches him thoughtfully and reevaluates. He knows well what can happen to a person when they feel that they are their title first and themselves second. Though if he earned his place as Knight Captain, 'many years' sounds like an exaggeration, given how young he looks.]

Hm. Fair enough. In that case, what kind of exchange would you accept for an afternoon of swordplay?

[Let's leave it at the fact that Fodlan isn't the only place that lets children engage in battle!

Kaeya takes a long moment to consider his tax, chin in hand. He may or may not draw it out exceptionally long just to see if it riles Felix up.

Only after a deep sigh does he shrug and finally make an offer.]

An afternoon for an evening! Buy me a drink.

[After a moment long enough that it can't still be legitimate consideration, Felix gives him an impatient glare.]

...well?

[And then the offer comes, and Felix blinks. Is this guy serious?

The look he delivers directly into the screen is completely deadpan.]

I have three boyfriends.

[At that look and tone, it's all Kaeya can do to keep his amusement contained in an airy chuckle. Oh, how he hopes this guy will say yes, after all. He would kill to see his attitude three drinks in.

Currently, though, Kaeya feigns amazement.]

Three? What a paradise! Do lovers scurry out of the woods to meet you as often as Pokemon do?

[The instant words start coming out of this man's mouth again, Felix scowls.]

Shut up. My point is that if what you want in exchange is a date, forget it. I'm ending this call.

Don't be so hasty, now. If you really have something better to do -- not that it was meant to be a date, necessarily -- I'd accept a bottle of wine to enjoy on my own time. I admit I am interested in the abilities of otherworlders.

[Look. Felix has been dealing with Sylvain long enough to know that when someone says 'buy me a drink,' it's usually a date. His scowl softens slightly into an exasperated frown.]
