[There's something so impossibly cool about the electric guitar! Ritsuka has a captive audience for as long as he plays. Was he improvising? That took a lot of skill!]

The sound was great! That's a good quality model you've got there. The amp sounds good too. But your muscle memory might've been a little confused if you're used to the touch of a different guitar.

True, that could be it... Couldn't exactly expect another world's guitars to be just like the ones back home, I guess.

[But he really does miss his old Stratocaster.]

I'm glad the sound is good, though. This is probably the best I've tried of the ones I can afford right now.

That one probably has fresh strings too. Are they a little harder to bend?

[That a question because he doesn't play a stringed instrument. Any advice he can give is anecdotal at best.]

Not particularly? I mean, guitar strings are harder to bend than most people can think when they first try, I guess, but once you get the strength for it, whether they're fresh or not isn't too important.

[Did he struggle with them when he first started? He can't remember... Nor does he remember Mafuyu complaining when he was teaching him, now that he thinks about it. Huh.]

I'm sure I've held a guitar before, but I can't really remember what it was like. I'm more familiar with orchestral instruments like violins and cellos... Which don't have frets, so it's probably different.

[asummerstory]

Oh yeah. My band's drummer back in my home world also plays the violin. I only saw it once, but I could tell it was different just from sight alone. Just needing the bow...

They're really fussy. It requires such a precise touch... When a violinist can make their notes sound really distinct and on tune, I get so impressed. My fingers just slide all over the place.

Right? I never tried to play it, but it's really super cool!

The last time I tried, it was when we did a "play the instrument of the person sitting behind you" exercise in the orchestra I was working with, and it was... A moment.

[Of true cacophony.]

[He... He can imagine. The pure mess.]

Why is that...? Does that ever work out?

[forsaintcecilia]

It was a team building exercise. To build some empathy for people playing other instruments, I guess. It worked pretty well on me.

[asummerstory]

Huh... I guess that's... One way to do it when you have that many people.

[forsaintcecilia]

I'm sure you've tried to play your bandmate's instruments, right?

[asummerstory]

Uh... Not the drums or the bass, no... [He... Would not have done well on the drums. Maybe been decent on the bass.] I did help our vocalist tune his guitar until he learned how to do it on his own, though.

You should try giving it a shot sometime! I think you'd be surprised how well your skills with a guitar translates to other instruments. Sure, you're not going to sound great, but just having a sense for rhythm and melody can still take you pretty far.

In all honestly, I'm not sure they'd let me.

[This is also to say, they'd probably look at him funny and wonder if he's sick if he suggested a team building exercise like that. Or any team building exercise at all.]

Are they really protective of their instruments?

[asummerstory]

Of course we all are. We're all either in high school or college and working part time to pay for everything, from instrument maintenance to studio fees. Replacing ours would be huge dent on our finances.

[It's tough out there, man.]

But really, they probably just wouldn't know what to make me of me suddenly coming out asking for that.

Ah, so you're a pro! I've never done any personal recording or producing myself, but I get it. Trying to make a living off a band ain't easy.

[Kazuki laughs.]

Ok, I think I get it.

[asummerstory]

We... Well, we're not exactly making money off of our work... yet, but yeah...

[Damn, he was not expecting all that. Way to fluster him, Kazuki!]

The advice I'd want to give would be to try and join a recording orchestra-- you know, the kinds of places that record stuff for tv or video games or whatever-- for some extra cash, but I don't know what the demand for guitars is like out there.

They probably can't hire high schoolers either...

Definitely not here in this world... Maybe in Japan, if you could prove you really needed the job.
