[ On the other side of the screen sits a young woman with a calm but encouraging smile. Heck yeah, learning!! ]

To my understanding, there's over 800 pokémon known by the native people, including some living legends- though with the technology of today, even they have been caught on video or photography at least once. It sounds quite daunting, but also exciting!

[Yay, learning!]

Pictures can only tell you so much, even the very good ones. To see such things in person, that's a very different sort of experience. Much rarer, but also much more valuable. To me, at least.

I agree. There's a difference between seeing a picture of a clear night sky and actually being there yourself. I can only imagine what it's like to see some of the legendary pokémon in person.

And the ordinary ones, they mustn't be overlooked. There's so much they can teach us, if we make the attempt to learn. There are... there must be mechanisms, for how the birds fly and the fish swim. Even these strange ones!

Oh yes! Many modern machines in my home world were designed by watching other creatures or elements of nature.

Oh! How exciting! Another world, you say? Is it very different from this one? I must admit, many things here are new to me.

[personal profile] peachiikeen 2021-03-07 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
I would sat that there are quite a few similarities, but some of our technology is more advanced- but some things here are further along in return. I haven't seen any cars, and trucks seem to be exclusively for moving cargo between cities. We don't have many super-powered animals, however.

[ That gift went to people instead! ]
neverfinishanyth: (genius at work)

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-07 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Fascinating! I cannot say for certain if there are super-powered animals where I am from, as I have not seen them all with my own eyes. Though there are rumors of beings with powers, or at least merchants who sell things claiming that this is so. Unicorn horns, for instance. The horn must exist, but does the unicorn? That I do not know.

[Whoops, he's babbling! Quick, get back on topic!]

Ah, mi dispiace, I got carried away for a moment. What are these cars and trucks you've mentioned? Different sorts of transportation, perhaps?

[ What an excitable man! It's very endearing. ]

Cars and trucks are methods of transportation, yes. They both follow the same mechanics, though trucks are more powerful due to carrying heavier loads and over greater distances. They're motor-powered vehicles that are almost fully automated- though admittedly, some cars don't require human drivers. Their driver sits within near the front and uses a steering wheel to direct where it goes.

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-07 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose the trucks must have bigger motors-- but what powers the motor? Most things where I come from are powered by horses or cattle, or sometimes by rotating a wheel with wind or water, like a river. If only I could take one apart to see what makes it tick-- but that will have to wait, I suspect. So many things to do.
peachiikeen: (...huh?)

(unseen: me furiously googling everything)

[personal profile] peachiikeen 2021-03-07 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Most motors these days convert electrical energy into mechanical energy through the interaction between the motor's magnetic field and electric current in a wire winding to generate force in the form of torque applied on the motor's shaft. This aids in powering the vehicle and giving it the force to move.

Is there something coming up?
neverfinishanyth: (we are living in a material world)

lmfao i'm sorry

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-07 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Furiously taking notes.]

Even better! There is nothing coming up, which means there's even more that must be done! I will go out there and see these pokemon and how they live, capture their likenesses if I can. I have so much to learn and time enough to learn it, I couldn't ask for more.

i brought this upon myself honestly.

[personal profile] peachiikeen 2021-03-07 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh! Are you an artist as well? If this technology is new to you, perhaps you may be interested in the camera function of our Gears? It's not the same as drawing or painting, but there's an art to photography. And it's something new!
neverfinishanyth: (and i am a material girl)

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-07 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
Si, I am employed as a painter. Though I do many other things besides. I took a few of these... what do you call them, photographs?-- I took some earlier, when I was trying to see how this Gear works, but I think there is definitely room for improvement.

yeah momo i bet u would

[personal profile] peachiikeen 2021-03-07 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure that you'll learn. There's quite a variety in how you do it, and I find it fun to experiment.

[ Man, she sure is taking all of this and everything not said in stride. ]

I'd love to see your work, sometime.
neverfinishanyth: (Default)

first page google results should do the trick

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-07 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, thank you, that is very flattering to hear you say. I suspect I shall have to take commissions at some point, if I have any hope of maintaining an income. If that is something that may interest you?
peachiikeen: (student)

[personal profile] peachiikeen 2021-03-07 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! Certainly, once I'm able to. I look forward to it!

I've found that the innkeepers and most shops welcome us 'off worlders' as employees for brief times- so as to not conflict too much with our travels, should we choose- but it's not quite enough at times.

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-07 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Generous landlords, now this is unheard of.

[He's kidding... right?]

In any case, it's amazing how thin one's coinpurse can feel once you need to spend some of it.
peachiikeen: (pensive)

[personal profile] peachiikeen 2021-03-08 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Ah... yeah. [ She grew up Rich As Fuck, this is very new to her. Uraraka's wisdom, please guide her. ] I've never been in such a situation before, so it's quite the adjustment.

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-08 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, I cannot say the same. But if it helps, I am certain you will get used to it in time.

[He's basically beholden to Rich As Fuck people for his pay.]

[personal profile] peachiikeen 2021-03-09 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! I'm sure of it. I've been taking great care so as to not wind up in trouble.

Oh- if I may, I'm rather curious. What pokémon was at your side when you arrived?
neverfinishanyth: (Default)

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-09 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! It seemed as though it were a small dog wearing a beret. I believe the pokedex calls it a Smeargle?

A little on the nose, if you ask me.
peachiikeen: (pleasant)

[personal profile] peachiikeen 2021-03-09 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I've encountered one yet, but it sounds adorable.

[ A puppy in a beret? Instant twitter fame. And one might see a small white fox poke it's head up over her shoulder. Hey. You talkin bout starters? ]

I've noticed some of the companions people receive from the start are... oddly fitting, yes. I'm not sure if it's intentional or not though.
neverfinishanyth: (and i am a material girl)

[personal profile] neverfinishanyth 2021-03-09 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps if I...

[A moment, please, as he tries to find the camera function. He's very careful as he holds the Gear, trying to keep it steady, and he knows that this light can't possibly be ideal, not with all these trees around, but-- well, it will have to do for now.

And, indeed, there appears to be a three foot high dog, standing on two legs, covered in soft white fur with greenish accents, currently holding his long tail as though it were a paintbrush, smearing what appears to be equally green ink onto a nearby tree--]

Ah! There we have it! [He sounds like he's smiling.] The little Maestro is hard at work, it seems.

[He turns the video off before he speaks again, wary of how it might jolt the camera, make it hard to see.]

Hm, there are many possibilities as to why. Perhaps the same force which brings us here also chooses our initial companion?

Oh! That is adorable, he's wonderful! Thank you so much!

[ Congratulations and thank you for delighting the teenager, Leonardo. You did good. ]

That's what I thought as well, actually.
