Ah. Yayorozu.

[A classmate? Out here? Shoto stands and comes over to pick up his Litten. It hisses and takes off under the bench. At least he was out of the way...]

I got here a few days ago. They handed me that strange cat in a ball.

[Something about being a trainer.]

[ Oh no, tiny kitten friend... But Todoroki doesn't seem horribly concerned? So she'll have to follow his lead on this one. ]

Yes, that happened to me as well- with. The woman claiming to be my mother. I received a white fox.

Would it be safe to assume that you can't use your quirk either?

[Why be concerned just yet? This world was not what he's used to for sure, yet there hasn't been a villain in sight. Just more and more of those strange creatures that only seem to know how to say their own name.]

So we didn't receive the same creature? [That's interesting.]

No. I've been trying to use them, especially when the nights get cold. Nothing happens.

I've had the same outcome- nothing. I was hoping that maybe it would be a fluke with one of us, but it seems that we really are rendered quirkless here.

[ It feels a little foolish to have hoped. ]

Thankfully, this world seems to be very peaceful. I've been here for a couple weeks now, and the most I've seen are these creatures' battles, but they're treated more like sparring matches with quirks. No true damage seems to linger.

I believe that we're given what suits us- though the qualifications vary, from my observation.

[All of that was very interesting to hear. Shoto had noticed that his weird cat recovered from battles faster than a cat from back home. The Pokemon Center helped reenergize it. Such a strange world.]

I've noticed that as the cat battled more, he seemed to learn new things. I've been using the Pokedex to try and figure them out and a new one was added this morning after he fought a thing called a Metapod.

[This leveling thing was rather useful.]

I believe that the pokemon we're given at the start of this are meant to reflect something within us, but what that 'reflection' is varies based on what I've seen on the Network. I've seen a girl who claimed to have hydrokinesis wind up with a seahorse, but I've also seen someone who hates ghosts be given what is essentially just that. It's either an accompaniment or a challenge, but I haven't been able to figure out what determines what you're given.

[ She's had a lot of time to browse the Network and talk about things like this, but unfortunately there's no real pattern. ... Maybe she's reading too much into this? ]

... Admittedly, I'm not sure what an ice fox has to do with me or my own abilities.

[This is why Yayorozu was one of the top people in class 1-A. Leave it to her to figure things like this out rather quickly.

What does he know about foxes?]

They're rather intelligent creatures. [And she was a very intelligent person. So it suits her just fine. Yet what would the ice indicate...] I'm not sure about the ice. Foxes in old stories used fire, not ice.

Ah- that is true. Apparently this one does have a fire counterpart native to this continent, but I haven't seen it yet.

What do you know about your cat so far?

[A fire and ice fox... That sounds like a useful combination of Pokemon to have.

He looks over at the Litten peeking out at the from under the bench.]

He hates being touched unless it's on his terms, and he can use fire. He also likes to fight so I haven't caught anything else since he keeps knocking them out.

[Are cats supposed to be like this?]

[ A fire type, then. And rather prickly at that. With her own theory in mind, she can only hope they're both okay. Todoroki had been making a lot of progress, but... well, years of conflict can't go away in a couple of months. Especially internal conflict. ]

I see. I've also not caught many others yet- I want to make sure I'm able to care for my team properly. But if I want to explore further, or try the Gym Challenge while we're here, I'll have to soon.

[They just need to warm up to each other. At least the Litten listens in battle for the most part.]

That's what I was trying to catch some more for. He just seems happier to knock them out instead of letting me catch them.

Oh boy. Shoto will need to nip that at the bud since he knows better himself that's not a way to make it in the world.]

I still have all the ones I was given. I just need this cat to stop attacking them when they're weakest.

[ Momo releases her Vulpix, and gives Shouto an encouraging smile. Vulpix also trills out a soft greeting, sitting down prim and proper. ]

[ And if that means Litten's gonna get full-body tackled and pinned down by a fluffy white fox, so be it. ... But hopefully it won't come to that? ]
