[inside the ruins]

Nearby, Leonardo stands sketching some of the puzzle mechanisms into his ever-present sketchbook. He realizes he's being spoken to, and more importantly about these very fascinating puzzles, and so he decides to answer. The excitement in his voice is very clear.

"It's difficult to say. There could be many reasons. A way to test their skills, or perhaps to keep out intruders, or maybe because they were very fond of puzzles to begin with."

He is, after all, so it stands to reason that these ancient ones could've been equally fond of them.

"It's so easy to forget, when you visit a site in ruins, that these were all functional buildings once upon a time. Perhaps the puzzles were the entire point-- oh!" Aziraphale grinned brightly upon seeing who he was speaking to. "Leonardo! I thought I recognized your voice!"

Leonardo squints as he tries to make the memories line up. The blonde does look somewhat familiar, doesn't he? Has he sat for a portrait recently? Maybe back in Firenze? His life lately has been such a whirlwind of invention, translation, and the occasional actual painting that he's gone a bit fuzzy on most of the details. He brightens up, smiling as he gives him a quick hug in greeting, letting go with a spring in his step.

"It's been some time, hasn't it?" He's sure of that much, at least. "Are you keeping well, outside of these ruins?"

Aziraphale beamed, and stayed close even after they broke off the hug.

"Oh yes, and Crowley as well; life has been something of a whirlwind but finally we're starting to get back to normal. We, ah..." How to describe it, to a human? "We broke away from our employers, and it's made us both much happier. But how have you been, dear boy?"

"I'm very glad to hear it," he says, nodding with understanding. Were it always so easy for him to bail on his commissions...

But enough about that. "I've been doing well, myself. I found a lot of inspiration in Venezia!" Most of it, he doesn't want to speak of out loud, just in case someone overhears, but he can't hold himself back from beaming and nearly shouting with enthusiasm, arms wide. "I even managed to test a prototype for a flying machine! It almost worked, too, if only I could figure out how to give it enough lift."

Leonardo's excitement was infectious and Aziraphale clapped his hands once. "Oh, that's wonderful! Flight really does have the potential to change everything. Would you mind showing me the design?" Look it has been a long time since Aziraphale has flown anywhere but he still remembered how.

"I would love to show you," he says, but watch out because here comes the but, "But it seems that I left my designs back in my workshop at home, and I haven't had a chance to remake them since I've arrived here."

He continues, speaking aloud to himself more than he speaks to Aziraphale in specific. "Perhaps if I find a suitable workshop, I can draw some of my plans again and add a few new ones."

A pity he wouldn't be able to look at the actual mechanism. "I'll buy you lunch and you can rough out a sketch, maybe?" Aziraphale wasn't sure why this was so interesting to him but he couldn't deny that it was.

Leonardo smiles widely. "That, I believe I can do." He wouldn't say no to lunch, either.

"It will need to be some time in the future unless you fancy trail rations. Although, I do have wine." Not the nicest, but it was still wine.

"Perhaps we best save the lunch for a place where there are tables?" He doesn't want there to be any unfortunate accidents regarding the wine, either. "I've heard Violet has some restaurants, and some of them are bound to be better than a handful of nuts and fruit."
