CATS VS DOGS ROUND 1 DING DING DING
Though it doesn't seem like the stranger needs help starting a fire in the end, Razor does think of one useful tip, and he and his Houndour approach, making plenty of noise to announce their presence.]
Oh, I know this! You have to say attack. Like this: Ember!
[On command, the black dog lifts its head and with a rather showy bark, spits a fireball up into the air. It dissipates, of course, before it can set any flora ablaze.]
no subject
In any case, the noisy announcement startles Atsushi substantially less than his voice alone might have. The fact that the boy at least appears to be younger than him helps incrementally, though the tension in his shoulders doesn't ebb entirely. After all, he's met (and been defeated by) plenty of people younger than him.
He is, of course, sufficiently distracted from all of these thoughts by the bright fireball that appears. He looks in awe between dog, boy, and cat, and then back down the chain once more.]
Is that how it works? [It seems simple enough. A lot of people had to announce their abilities back home, after all. It stood to reason that this place would be the same.]
Alright, kitty. Ah, Litten. Use ember?
[The Litten blinks, huffs, then finally rouses itself from its seated position. It spits a few sparks into the fire, before glowering up at Atsushi. The thrilled grin he wears doesn't help the Litten's demeanor.]
That's so much easier! Do all of these creatures know ember, then? Can I tell everyone to use ember and they'll all breathe fire? What other words are there?
no subject
No. Also... no. There are lots, for every 'mon. Dawn knows... Leer, Ember, Howl... Smog, Roar, Bite... [He... appears to be counting these on his fingers as he goes, and... Houndour, for its part, is begrudging but obediently getting ready to set off each move before the next one is called out. Razor seems to catch on, startling himself as the dog seems ready to pounce at the cat.]
Oh, no. No, no, no. No biting. [He turns a light shade of red, which is also something newer to him, before digging out his own Gear.] Um, maybe I show you...? Safer.
no subject
Between Atsushi and the boy, he doesn't get the chance. Atsushi is far more familiar with dogs than cats, but he's pretty sure that picking a creature up by the scruff is the right thing to do. He does that, prompting a displeased and disgraced yowl from the Litten.]
Hey, hey, no attacking! We're playing nice, right now. [That eagerness to draw blood reminds him, rather uncomfortably, of someone he knows. He suppresses the shudder as he shifts to hold the Litten against his chest. He absolutely doesn't wince as it sinks the claws of one paw into his arm.]
M-Maybe you're right. Showing me would probably -- Ow -- be better.
no subject
Still, he approaches, his dog staying put and turning up its nose at the other Pokemon. Stupid cat, don't you know it was just doing its duty by following the orders of its pack leader?
Before he can say anything, though, Razor stops in his tracks and wrinkles his nose. It's a knee-jerk reaction, and one that a few months of human interaction tell him will be taken as pretty fucking rude. He scrunches his eyes shut and shakes his head, trying to put on a straight face again.]
Um... sorry. You smell like... cat. Not just your cat.
no subject
Instead, he's focusing on his new companion's words. He tilts his head to the side, looking perhaps far more amused than he should.]
Is that your ability then? Detecting what others can do?
no subject
Ability...? [He must mean like Visions, Razor decides.] Oh. No. I use lightning. You have powers? [His head tilts, the PokeGear and instructions all but forgotten.]
no subject
But yes, I do. Mine is called "Beast Beneath the Moonlight." I can turn into a tiger. [He reaches down to hold Litten's paw, waving it at Razor.] I look a little like this, kind of. But only sometimes. Other times I'm much bigger! And also white and black.
no subject
[Razor nods along, as if this is perfectly normal... for all of a few seconds.]
Wait. You are... really a tiger? Not just... think you are? [Sure, his tone betrays some hidden pain, but he's doing his best not to take it out on Atsushi. If anything, he's equal parts amazed, so his curiosity is honest.]
no subject
I... wish I was pretending, sometimes. But no. [He shakes his head. The motion seems to draw him back into himself.] I would show you but... it doesn't really work here.
no subject
Neither does lightning... [Part of him wants to prod deeper, but it's likely something the boy would only share with close packmates. Better to shake it off and finally bring his Gear into Atsushi's view. He can tolerate the cat smell, though he does stay far enough away that Litten couldn't reach him to lash out.]
You hit this, and this. Attacks for different 'mons.
[Razor's Gear in particular is set to read the screen aloud, so it starts in on various movesets as he scrolls; Houndour's, Rockruff's, Woobat's, Honedge's... He mutes it before it goes on for too long, though, and looks expectantly to Atsushi. Surely if Razor of all people can grasp it, the tiger boy can.]
