Smewpaw || Warriors (OC)

[personal profile] oaklegend 2021-08-15 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I. Viridian Forest

When Smewpaw had first arrived, he was so confused! He'd gone to sleep in camp, safe and warm with his littermates and Papa and Blueflame, and now suddenly he was here, and he was a twoleg of all things! But he knew how to walk without his paws despite not having done a lot of sitting up, and he knew what all the other twolegs said, even if it didn't often make a whole lot of sense...then he realized what this was. It was a dream, it just had to be! A mega weird dream after a very scary Gathering. And he was awake enough to do what he wanted!

Well, what Smewpaw wanted was to be in the woods, so that was where he went first, his funny little new duck friend cheerfully in tow. It looks like greenleaf here, all bright and sunny and warm, and he wanted to look for a river to play in, away from any stinky twolegplace; he'll use his newfound fur-less powers to explore that later. So that's likely where one may find this unattended child, traipsing around in the woods in search of flowing water, or perhaps even already splashing about in a small creek somewhere! His pokemon companion is absolutely delighted at having a playmate and readily encourages his merrymaking, even if Smewpaw isn't really sure yet if little Ducklett isn't just a very confused prey animal. Good thing he's not hungry!

II. Mt. Moon

Before long, Smewpaw grew bored of playing in the forest, and he wasn't quite ready to explore twolegplace all by himself yet (And there's three of them! Wow!), so he hatched a different idea. From Pewter City he could see Mt. Moon, this place's very own Highstones. There aren't any pesky warriors or medicine cats around to scold him, so he decides he's going to go there himself and see what all the fuss is about. He's a twoleg now, after all, and nothing hurts twolegs! He'll be fine, right?

When he gets to the yawning mouth of the cave leading into the mountain, Smewpaw's a little less sure about it. RiverClan doesn't sleep in underground dens, so going into a cave is an intimidating ordeal indeed, especially after he heard Whisperstar tell of how one of WindClan's tunnels collapsed...it looks pretty big inside though, and he can glimpse some twolegs hanging out inside. Deep breath, set that jaw, and march in!! Despite his initial anxiety, Smewpaw slowly becomes rather enamored of the place. It's like a forest all its own, but with big rocks instead of trees and puddles everywhere! He's caught up in the trainer spirit before long, remembering this place has its own rules and objectives, and it doesn't take him very long to start playing by them. With his trusty Ducklett here to help him (who he has now named Splashfeather and acknowledged as a friend), he becomes a menace to the local wild pokemon, hunting for captures and battles alike with all the skill and grace of a proud RiverClan warrior. He even manages to catch a few; welcome to the team, Cloudswirl the Clefairy and Firebite the Paras!

Smewpaw's rampage doesn't last forever, though. Mt. Moon has something special, after all, something that Smewpaw recognizes from his brother's stories about his medicine cat training: moonstones! These aren't the evolutionary kind, though, rather there are just a couple hunks of milky white stone around in the cave. Smewpaw doesn't see how any of them might catch moonlight, but that's not going to stop him from trying to touch one! Maybe he can even talk to StarClan, and ask them for help with all these evil cats in the other Clans. He cops a squat by a big one that's slick with water and leans forward to touch his nose to it, and....!

III. Cerulean City

Mouse dung! Ok, so he can't talk to StarClan, that's fine. Gracklepaw and his mentors probably have it covered anyway. Which means there's only one thing left to do...use his last pokeballs to "recruit" Sandydove the Pidgey, and go to the next twolegplace to try the twoleg thing! And what a perfect twolegplace it is for an eager RiverClan apprentice. This place obviously loves water, from the big beautiful river that flows by to the weird pool...puddle...thing that spits water up into the air. He spends a ton of time just ogling that and playing with his faithful senior warrior Splashfeather in it, but when he's not being a kit in the fountain he's being a rogue on the streets! Smewpaw dons his best scary twoleg look and skulks around the twoleg nests, occasionally messing around in the funny hard tree stumps that are full of just the most interesting things, including free food! Or some of it smells like food, anyway.

He merrily stalks around until eventually, someone catches him with his paws in a garbage bin and takes him by surprise (twoleg ears aren't even half as sharp as a cat's, after all), which prompts the young boy to whip around wicked fast and bare his tiny baby fangs at them with a fierce hiss!

"What do you want, twoleg?" He keeps his teeth bared and his fingers curled into claw shapes and looks ready to swipe, if this stranger gets too close...!

III! here we go

The sounds of rummaging around in the garbage aren’t *that* strange to hear around here - after all, wild Trubbish exist - but Varley the Liepard stops at the entrance to the alley and sniffs, then stalks carefully inside, crouching low to the ground.

Felix is used to this, because Varley loves to hunt (one reason they get along so well), but he peers in to watch as she pounces!…and then scrabbles back before she can bowl over the very human boy.

Felix’s brow furrows as he moves closer to address the kid. “What are you doing?”

Oh, if only Smewpaw still had his fluffy fur, he'd give these attackers a good scare! He spits and swipes at Varley, forgetting for the moment that he is in fact a twoleg with no sharp claws to speak of because hey, this cat almost attacked him!

When the Liepard's trainer rolls up the apprentice hardly acknowledges him. There's a cat here, after all, and a big one patrolling with a twoleg! She looks much too strong and fierce to be any kittypet, at least, though she does kind of look like Tigerfawn. Wrenpaw's mentor was once a kittypet too apparently, but she's a full-blooded RiverClan warrior now...and one of the most ferocious!! Either way Smewpaw doubts this oddly-colored she-cat doesn't hunt and fight for her own food. What kind of kittypet pounces at a twoleg, anyway?

So he's mostly addressing her, since she's obviously in charge here, and he's trying very hard not to look as scared as he feels. "What are you doing? You just j-jump on every random cat you see?"

Yeah, he's totally forgotten.

Smewpaw isn't the only one finding sanctuary in the water. As he plays about in the water, he might see something dark starting to shift carefully a little more upstream. A dark, inky, terrifying mass...

...That is actually just another kid very slowly trying to crawl through the water and the mud, both of which cover them completely and make kind of a mess.

Squid Ink Cookie doesn't really understand what's going on. This is, really, nothing particularly new. Squid Ink Cookie rarely understood what was happening at any given moment, including things like how they got to any particular place at any given time. While it was confusing, and scary, and the cause of many tears... At least they roughly knew what they were (a cookie, with tentacles) and how to move.

That's... a lot harder right now. They're missing all their tentacles, and their balance feels horrifically off as a result. At the end of the only limbs that have remained, there are those weird things (fingers) at the very end that are weird and bend strangely and they don't know what to do with them.

Existing has always been a trial. It's just a super bad one right now.

They sort of thought that going into the water might help things, but it hasn't, not really... but it is easier to kind of just be reduced to crawling, where the balance isn't as bad, in the water. When they realize that there's someone else up ahead, however, they pause in place and stare out from beneath sprawled locs with a pair of wide milky blue eyes.

They've been trying to avoid people for a while now. They don't really know what to do when confronted with a people.

Smewpaw, for one, doesn't really know either. It's why he's been staying away from all the twolegplaces; he's heard his Papa tell him about twolegs, and lots of cats in RiverClan used to be kittypets, but it's easier to ignore the lumbering things and just regard them as the towering mouse-brains they are when you're a cat. Smewpaw, now very much not a cat, has no idea how to twoleg because it never really concerned him.

And now there's one slithering up to him in the water. And...oh StarClan, it's staring at him. What should he do? Should he say something? Try to scare it off? Just stay still until it goes away? He doesn't know, so in a roundabout way he's taking the last option. He plops down in the water and just stares right back, sky blue to milky white.

Ducklett, however, has no such hang-ups about humans. He just likes to make friends! Which is exactly what he's planning as he scoots his way up to this very confused and extra muddy stranger with a happy quack. He splashes a little water on them for good measure. Come play with him!

Yeah, Smewpaw's pretty sure now this weird duck has a death wish.

Ducks, at least, are not a complete unknown to Squid Ink. They may not be the most common of water fowl that a sea cookie would know, but they have seen such birds, occasionally, especially when they've ended up wandering far from the sea just from, you know. Things happening.

However, when those same fowl make a run at an innocent cookie just trying to run their life, well. That has slightly more dire consequence, and that's how the cookie crumbles. Literally. Squid Ink has the fortune of being a little too soggy, so shattering apart doesn't happen as much... but splatting about is a different matter, and it's never a pleasant feeling regardless.

So when the tiny little Ducklett splashes up, they can't help but jerk back in alarm. They're expecting a duck in their face - which, admittedly, could still happen - but instead they just get a small splash of water over them. Pushed up a little bit with their front limbs, they blink again at the duck as mud slowly drips away from their face and hair.

A sniffle. A watery blink. "Who... you?" they manage to mumble, the mouth at least not too unusual from that of a cookie's. "Wet..."

"I'm Smewpaw!" The once-a-cat brags lightly. Ordinarily he might puff up a bit to enhance the effect, but he's not ignorant to the fact that whoever this twoleg is is not having a good time. He decides to gently reach out and nudge the Ducklett away from them with a particular lack of dexterity, not feeling confident enough in the mouse-brained bird's trust in him to just scoop him up entirely. Thankfully the fuzzy duck-gosling-cygnet critter takes his cue just fine and decides to start splashing his trainer instead, happily cheeping away. "I'm a warrior. And this is a duck! I don't know why it's following me."

Then he tilts his head a little as he looks them over, taking in just how oddly they're carrying themself in general. "...Um, are you ok? You're kinda weird."

Saberstar's kits were pretty weird too, in fairness. But even they weren't this weird. Squid Ink could probably even give Gracklepaw and Moonfisher competition, and they're the weirdest cats Smewpaw's ever seen!

Not that weird is bad, though. Smewpaw likes weird. He just doesn't want to be responsible for scaring some twoleg...uh...kit? Is this one a kit or a grown-up? He can't really tell, the twolegs he's seen so far all look like they could just be normal size differences, like how Foxpounce is half as big as his Papa...
tentacookie: (I'm starting to black out)

[personal profile] tentacookie 2021-09-08 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Smewpaw, and a very active little duck... Squid Ink takes in the name and situation, sniffling a bit but at least not feeling so worked up or tense. At least, no more than usual, anyway. Nothing any more alarming is happening than per usual, after all, and well... They suppose they were doomed to speak with someone eventually.

Bit by bit, carefully trying to keep in mind how these new limbs of theirs work (by Squid Ink's estimation: badly), they push themself up until they're awkwardly sitting up with their legs sprawled out underneath them. If there's one thing the mud is good for, it's that it acts as a decent anchor for their hands, sinking into it. Limbs are... hard, otherwise. At least when there's only four, and positioned in such a weird way.

"I'm... Squid Ink Cookie," they manage, mimicking how Smewpaw had introduced himself. It's a simple sentence, easy to mimic. Even they can do that. "And... feel weird. Legs wrong..."

And they'd mostly been legs, they suppose. All cookies had legs, so they'd had legs too, right? Just a little more legs than usual, that were a little more flexible than usual, and it was always what felt right to them. How could it be anything else? They'd come out of the oven like that.

"Squid Ink Cookie." Smewpaw struggles a little with the pronunciation, having no clue what literally any of those words refer to and not understanding why one would need a name in three parts, but he's not the kind of cat who questions such things. That's his brother's job! Plus, he's much more interested in their discomfort with their legs. "Well Squid Ink Cookie, that makes two of us!! I'm not good at the two legs either."

Admittedly better off than they are, though; he might not have a tail anymore to help him balance, but he's had some practice standing around on his hindpaws from playing with his Clanmates! And that recalling that gives him an idea...

"Do you wanna practice together?"
tentacookie: (...And then I woke up at home.)

[personal profile] tentacookie 2021-09-12 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Frankly, if no one had told him that Smewpaw was new to having two legs as well, Squid Ink would never have known. He certainly acts like he's completely natural to this, including being able to shoo away the duck so easily... Balancing like that seems impossible, at least for the moment.

Still, Squid Ink is pretty sure they can't just... keep going like this. While the water was still soothing as always when they first sunk into it, it's starting to feel colder and colder, and not in a good way. They'll probably have to learn how to walk on just the two legs. That's just how it is.

Sniffling a bit, Squid Ink dares to nod their head. "Practice... Yes. Please." That's what a cookie should say when asking favors, right? Squid Ink isn't entirely certain about that, not having exactly been raised with manners, but it seems right according to the few cookies that they are friendly with. "What first?"
