[If it was just him, or others like him, he'd have a different answer, but with Haga, he could not believe it would be the same for this boy.]

[Now there's some information that could be useful. Paul gets a bit close to the screen, Hulud scuttling some distance away to let his Trainer speak.]

Team Rocket. I'll keep an eye out - I haven't actually had an encounter yet, but what little I've heard about them is bad. Can you please tell me what you know?

[Paul is deadly serious this time, and his previously relaxed expression seems to sharpen. This is a threat worth his full attention. Paul is a newcomer.]

[A young Silly Creature with dark, curly brown hair comes online.]

I wouldn't brush off looking by the side of the road. You might get lucky. There are some surprising things you can find if you search in the right places. Or you can buy what you're looking for, but it obviously won't be cheap. Evolutionary stones are rare.

[Scavenging for items has mixed results. Still, Paul has found some valuables that way. Sometimes Hulud has come up with Berries and other useful items worth hanging onto.]

Growlithe...that one's a fire-type Pokemon, I think. So you'll need a Fire Stone to evolve him. Not easy to find, but not impossible either.

[Trapinch evolves the old-fashioned way, but Paul hangs on to most of the items he finds, especially rare ones. They might be useful eventually, or be traded for something that benefits him more.]

Right, so, Team Rocket seems to be a primary criminal element in this world. From what I've heard, they've been responsible for both petty crimes and big things. I mean stuff like attacking banks and capturing the Elite Four at least once. There's also people saying they are involved in, like, the gambling establishments here, which I don't have any proof of, but I also wouldn't put beyond them. Cause of course criminals are involved in gambling, that is like crime 101.

But as a regular trainer out on the road, especially as a newcomer, you're more like to deal with their grunts -- which are their low level members that focus on stealing pokemon from other trainers. Technically everybody can be a target, though they do seem to focus on pokemon that are either very powerful or rare. A lot of them attack people while in uniform to disguise their own identities, so if you see anyone approaching out all dressed in black with caps and large red Rs on their shirts, just fuckin' run, you know? They aren't above punching you if it comes down to it.

[Ask him how he knows!]

I've also know of at least one person that got here and was immediately kidnapped by them. They tried to blackmail him into working for them, so be wary of that as well.

The police are pretty useless when it comes to handling anything Team Rocket related, and I've got my theories as to why, so don't bother going to them. Instead, if you run into any trouble, Rocket related or otherwise, you should contact miss Jane Crocker of the Fletcher Gym in Goldenrod City. She's also from another world and she runs a detective agency. I work for her too, and I promise we'll actually take your cases seriously.

The police are useless, then. Can't say I'm too surprised, they seem nice but ineffectual - no wonder this Team Rocket group operates freely. I'll see Miss Crocker in Goldenrod at some point - she sounds like a good contact to have either way. It's good to hear that there are people here who have a grip on things.

[This world seemed a bit too sweet on the surface, and it doesn't particularly surprise Paul that there's a darker underbelly. He's dealt with the threat of kidnapping and worse where he comes from, and he's not defenseless, but the other kid's advice to run seems good. Especially while both he and his parther aren't on their feet yet.]

I'll say this much - they'd better not touch Hulud. I won't let them have him. We look out for each other here.

[He strokes his partner's head protectively, and the Trapinch nuzzles him.]

How do you know about the punching? I'm guessing you've had a few brushes with these people yourself.

You're right - we should keep in touch. I can tell you anything interesting I learn or come across.

It would be a welcome change from what I have to deal with.

[ imagine not being told everything from the get-go. couldn't be him. ]

Neither have I. It's a nice change, isn't it? [ one he could definitely get used to. ]

Really? I daresay most people would feel otherwise...

It is nice. [One of the Slowpoke that wasn't interested in the food began the arduous task of climbing over him. Kazuki didn't mind.] I guess I've just been too busy lately.

[What word? She tilted her head but didn't ask, focusing on the parts she did get.]

I only got a few pokemon that way. I got one by throwing a rock at it. I broke it. [He'd just sat there, dazed and confused. Turned out, Woopers were just like That. Even so, Mikasa couldn't just release him, he seemed too... Too something to live out in the wild. At least he DIDN'T TRY TO SIT ON HER. She's just going to give each of the pokemon a shove of the snout. Back up.]

I don't know why... One of my other ones always hides.

[He's sighing, but Mikasa still just sat there. Confused and not fully getting it. What was an alligator?]

Like the knights from the old myths. [The people who thought before there were titans around. Such a weird idea. But... None of those animals seemed trustworthy. She'd helped raise chickens, they would eat their own eggs. And even then...]

A chicken seems like the easiest to deal with.

[Was 1000% she could take a chicken in a fight.]

[Gobo paused outside of the Pokemon Center doors, staring at his PokeGear in confusion. That was a lot of background audio and it was confusing at first, until he heard Boober's light scold, at which he snickered and completed his walk inside.]

Ghost giving you some problems, Boober?

Well, if there's something neat to be found somewhere, then you can bet I'll find it. Foraging's a lot of what we Fraggles do. And I bet I could get one of my Pokemon to help me too, now that I think about it.

[When discussed, he looks down at his Pokemon and gives it a good-natured rub.]

If I gotta buy it, well... Then I guess that's how it is, eh. I've noticed that's how things seem to be run here.

I've found things in all kinds of strange places. Side of the road, tree stumps, alleyways...some of it can be very useful, even if it doesn't seem to be right away. Or you can sell it for things you do need, and you'll be able to afford that Fire Stone more quickly than you'd think.

[Paul wonders what a "Fraggle" is, but doesn't ask immediately. While he's human, some of the other people transported here were other intelligent species back in their worlds. Fraggles must be one of them.]

That's how it is in most places, unfortunately. People here can be surprisingly generous, though you do have to be careful. There's Team Rocket lurking around, you might have heard of them, and the usual con artists besides them.

[Paul's from a darker world - his nature is more cautious, with reason, and he has some awareness that this place has its own dark side. He shifts to a lighter topic, admiring the other outworlder's Pokemon.]

That's a handsome Growlithe you have.

[He makes note of the idea of selling things, though part of him wonders what's the point? If he finds something neat, he's more inclined to keep it, or just give it away to someone else. There's always finding money from other places, if he needs it.]

[Crooks like that isn't something he's exactly used to, but living in fear of his life is. After facing down angry monstrous Poison Cacklers trying to eat you, how could one worry about Team Rocket?

But the mention of Growlithe gets a warm smile from him, and the Pokemon barks a bit in reply. Attention!]

Awwh yeah, thanks! He was the partner that I started out with; named him after my Uncle Matt.

No, just about as far from it as you can get, I think. The way I normally look is totally different.

[His interest continues as Freddy describes where he's from. While "Fazbear Mega Pizzaplex" and "Animatronics" both go right over his head, the rest of it is certainly easy enough to understand, and...]

Wow, that sounds great! That's a lot of what we do down at Fraggle Rock too, playing games, making music, generally having a party nearly every day.

Exactly. There are two main stores: one in Goldenrod City in Johto, and another in Celadon City in Kanto.

My name's Gobo Fraggle, nice to meetcha too.

Gobo then... [The fox pipes up again, HELLO?] And this is Coressa; she's a Vulpix. Her kind come in two forms: she is an Ice-type, but they can also be Fire-type like your Growlithe.

Ohh, that's pretty cool. I didn't know the same Pokemon could be different types.

This- [LOUD BARK, which makes Gobo wince and, not unkindly, push Growlithe back a bit by the snout] -is Matt. And he's about as loud and noisy as his namesake, my uncle, is. [He snickered softly, like some private joke.] Better coordinated though.

[Oh, surprisingly, that gets a knowing chuckle out of her.]

Somehow, I can imagine. I have a loud, noisy uncle of my own, in a way.

[Oh dear llama-god, Coran and Great Uncle Matt in the same room would either be glorious or horrifying. Most likely both.]

But yes, some species of Pokémon have regional variations that grant them different appearances and Types, and sometimes a Pokémon's type can change under rare circumstances, like upon evolving, mega-evolution, or through the use of certain moves.

[He's listening, he promises. But two words are what catch his attention the most.]

Mega Evolution?

[Paul's seen worse - a lot worse - than Team Rocket. Still, he's in a vulnerable position here until he and his partner are both stronger, so he's being careful to stay out of trouble. This is a different world, with different rules and dangers.]

It's no problem. There are a lot of helpful people here, but you still have to keep your eyes out and watch your step so you don't get taken advantage of.

[Paul shifts to make space for someone, and a buglike orange Pokemon with a gaping mouth joins him on the screen.]

Your first Pokémon is important. Mine was Hulud here. He's a Trapinch - he's my own partner, like Matt is to you. A Ground-type Pokémon. Agreeable creature, but very curious. So he sometimes gets into places he shouldn't, like my bag.

[The Trapinch makes what sounds like a purr, curious about the Gear, and then looks up, as if examining the other two.]

It's a temporary power boost, if you will. Only certain Pokémon species are capable of it, and you'll need to earn all eight badges in a region's League to earn a Mega Stone in order to activate it, but it is quite possible.

[Got what it takes to earn a Perfect Maybe-Blue Rollie, Gobo?]

Oh? I could hardly imagine that. [ Byleth you charmer. ] It seems like you know quite the colorful bunch indeed.
