[ Snom on her shoulder, Rose walks through Cherrygrove City curiously. Traveling felt natural but everything else? Strange. Apparently, this little thing on her content to crawl all over was called a 'pocket monster' if the translation was correct.

Of course, she'd been told something else interesting that she wants to ask the network of offworlders like her about:
] So, a local told me that we can name these little guys whatever we want. [ As she speaks, she reaches a hand back and up to rub the top of the Snom's head. It nuzzles up into her touch. Naming them seems like a recipe for disaster when the apparent average age of new trainers is usually ten. Still- ] How did you decide to name yours? And why did you?

I'm not sure what to name mine, I guess, and it feels like a kind of big decision.

    Ow, fu-

[ Thankfully, the swear is cut short by the last minute rememberance that there are many more children present than there aren't. Still, the blond hisses as she runs a hand against her scraped knee.

Night vision was a passive ability she'd gotten used to having. Make no mistake, she's thrilled to be functionally human, but the adjustments might take some time. She feels along a rocky cave wall carefully, whispering to her Snom:
    ]

You couldn't be a glow worm, huh? That'd be too convenient.

[ She touches something more organic and pauses. The creature - a Zubat - gives a sudden shrill shriek that causes Rose to yell in surprise back at it. All the commotion and wings flapping of now many alarmed Zubats is followed by a bit of immediate disoriention. It lands Rose sitting on the dusty cave floor and quietly saying from the dark: ]

    This place freakin' blows.

Oh. My. Gods. This may be the best thing I've ever seen.

[ She is speaking, of course, of the absolutely adorable pink blob in front of her staring blankly into the fifth dimension. ] It's amazing. Perfection.

    Slooowwww...?

It's called a Slowpoke. [ As if the person she's speaking to may not realize the treasure they are currently witnessing. ] I want so many of them. Can I get just Slowpokes? Is that allowed? It should be. Look at them.

[ The Slowpoke has only now begun to tilt its head curiously, just as confused about this interaction as apparently everything else around it. ]

[ after being shoved out of 'mom's' house with nothing but the bag in hand and a few choice words thrown her way, naoto was exploring his bag full of goodies with his litwick at his side-- seems like she was excited to know the bag's contents as he was.

Man, wouldn't life be great if we were all like you.

[ naoto was laying next to a slowpoke, imitating the sloth-like pokémon with gusto. it was almost a shame he was ruining his clothing, but when laziness was an option, he was so taking it. this was the life, quite frankly. the shade provided by the tree that was nearby was icing on the cake.

let's hope his shade isn't ruined. ]

[ the camera is steadier than most, which is surprising to him, what with cradling his rather fidgety litwick in his arms, almost like a baby. but having it in frame was only because the little candle pokémon was running off every moment of every day. it was tiring him out!

he did look a little exhausted, it seems. ]

Real quick for those who changed dramatically out there-- not that I'm expecting much, really. [ naoto's never had luck with throwing caution to the wind, but hey, might as well try. but his gaze shifts to the side for a moment before turning back to the camera. ] How did you adjust? Any tips, tricks, anything to share?

[ a beat. ] I guess it just feels weird being human again.

Listen, Candelaria, I know we're not supposed to be here, but we worked our butts off! Let's just have a little fun!

[ shrine life just fit naoto, so of course he won the monks' good graces rather quickly! which means he's going to take full advantage of looking around! it took a good while to do so, but in his excitement, he made a trap go off, and with that, a rather loud scream of fear while clutching his litwick close.

after everything was said and done, naoto winced. ]

Lorenz Hellman Gloucester | FE:3H

[personal profile] silky_bearing 2022-01-02 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I. Network UN: rose_of_gloucester
[The video feed is horribly off center at first and the very purple man on the screen is looking awkwardly at his buttons more than the camera itself. Still, he certainly seems chipper if a bit technologically challenged.]

Good Day! I am Lorenz Hellman Gloucester and I was rather wondering if anyone had recommendations for the best place to find a proper tea.

[There's the gentle tinkle of tapping on china and a rather grumpy looking sinistea floats into view, first glaring at Lorenz and then turning to roll it's eyes at the camera.]

I didn't mean it as a slight against you, my dear, merely-

[The sinistea rounds on him, wobbling in the air with frustration before the spirit within bursts from the top of the cup with a snarl (how does one make the word tea sound so ominous?) and Lorenz drops his phone with an indignant little squawk, the clatter of the fall cutting the feed.]

Flames!

II. New Bark Town
[It's all a bit of a whirlwind when one isn't expecting to wake up in the first place. Lorenz finds himself drawn to the docks, standing beside the railing looking out over the water as the early morning begins to brighten to full light. The breeze, the salt on the air, it all reminds him of Derdriu and... isn't that a bittersweet memory to come to mind?

For now he stands quietly, thoughtful and curious, fingers trailing over the edges of his pokégear. He has a lot of information to process and a short amount of time to do it. He can't stay here all morning but-

One hand comes up to press over his heart, rubbing lightly at his shoulder, at the thick knot of scar tissue that now rests beneath his violet suit. For as reserved as he is this early morning, however, he does cut a striking figure given his height and dressed as he is in a swallowtail suit in vibrant purple, a rose pinned to his jacket.]

I. Violet City
[By the time Lorenz arrives at Violet City, somewhere he's been assured will offer the very best tea, he's at least a little more comfortable with everything. Oh and Violet City speaks to him on so many levels. Seated outside one of the patisseries with a delicate little cake and.... two? cups of tea?

Ah but he seems to be speaking to one of them, the fine detail work of the teacup he's drinking from intentionally meant to be a similar pattern to the lovely print of the china housing his new friend. The sinistea hops a little closer, watching curiously as he stirs sugar into his actual tea. Two passes of the spoon and then it blinks rapidly and sticks it's tongue out at the other cup, clearly disapproving of the amount of sugar he's added to his tea.

Which only makes Lorenz laugh, a bit more genuine than the haughty courtly laugh he tends to favor.]

Oh not you too. There's nothing wrong with preferring a sweeter blend.

[He glances around, seeking out another to defend his position on sweet tea, smiling at whoever is unfortunate enough to catch his eye.]

Surely you agree?

i. new bark town
[If you are trying to experience any amount of peace, or perhaps are hoping for time to catch your bearings, then that's deeply unfortunate for you.]

It has become quite clear to me what has occurred here. [She appears to be talking to...the air? To everyone around her? To herself? To the itty bitty Cleffa standing before her next to where Lulu has just sort of dropped her bag on the ground. Carrying it, after all, would get in the way of her posing: she's dramatically throwing her arms out and standing boldly before absolutely nothing as if she thinks this is some kind of theater production and she's gotta really make sure the cheap seats can see what she's doing.]

If there is a sun here, and the heavens bear witness to our journeys with its brilliant glow, then certainly it, too, must set, the same as in the lands from which the emissary hails, and it shall leave behind the moon, in all Her grace and glory. And where there is that lunar eye beholding the demesne of the earth blanketed in cool darkness, there are Her watchers, as well, her divine soldiers marching through, uplifting the downtrodden and protecting those in greatest need! Yes, I understand perfectly!

[The Cleffa at her feet is trying to imitate her poses as she goes with a childlike delight at the absolute fucking nonsense before it.]

For there is constancy in the skies; even as they shift, one knows the sun will rise once more and once the world has left its light, we will see ourselves illuminated by the stars scattered about Her holy realm! And true, just as there is the moon, there is Her most stalwart ambassador! And you!

[She points directly at the Cleffa, who gasps, its eyes all starry with wonder.]

Like stars in their eternal dance within each others warmth, you and I share a destiny! You are to be my companion, heavensent and moonblessed, in my sacred duty to Her lunar grace!

[The Cleffa makes a noise of delight, hopping up in place, posing dramatically at Lulu's feet.]

And you!

[...oh god. oh no. oh fuck. oh goddamn it she's looking at you she's absolutely beaming and she's talking to you now]

What is your purpose upon this plane?!

[WHAT]

ii. route 31
[It's late. Lulu has set up her camp for the night. She's settled down; dinner has been eaten, the fire extinguished, the bedroll laid out. One would think—one would fucking hope—this would mean some calm.

And yet.
]

I CONDEMN THEE, FOUL SPIRIT!

[And yet.

Cut to: Lulu, in her pajamas, clutching her Cleffa in her arms, shaking like a goddamn leaf before the Gastly floating in front of her a few feet away. It snickers a little while Lulu, as she screams...throws...glitter at it??? Where did she get that?????

You shall not taint this holy night with your wicked presence! This creature is under the protection of the moon's apostle, deepest in her dedication! No harm is to come upon Her Lady Artemis Andromedalia, First and Final of Her Name!

[is that? the fucking cleffa's name???? The cleffa, for her part, seems mostly just bewildered by this situation. The Gastly isn't even doing anything. It kind of just wants to see where this is going.]

Pass through the threshold into the afterlife from whence you emerged and into which you shall return evermore!

[The glitter isn't helping.]

[OOC: Spoilers for Security Breach probably]

New Bark Town

[How often, truly, does Johto actually see newcomers who are probably more in-line with the intended demographic? Not all that often if you'd believe it. Most aren't always thrilled upon arrival either, but this kid in particular...

The instant he'd woken up in an unfamiliar house with an unfamiliar adult addressing him, his immediate response was to seek some avenue of escape. It didn't matter that this woman clearly wasn't the security lady that had been hunting him all night, he didn't want to be anywhere near her. Especially when she wouldn't let him go without taking a backpack (fine) and a hug (less fine). But at least she's kicking him out, saving him the trouble of...he doesn't know, having to escape out the window or something.

But that was a while ago now. By this point, Gregory had discovered his companion, decidedly not Freddy who he's already sorely missing, but a little Teddiursa who barely makes it to his knees. He trusts the bear over any adult he might encounter though, so he scoops him up in his arms and lets him ride on his shoulder, constantly checking and rechecking his now completely non-functional Fazwatch. Does it just not work outside of the facility? He knows he wanted to get out of there in one piece, but he didn't ask to be teleported to some...some other unfamiliar place.

Well. A scruffy, unkept child standing on the outskirts of the city looking like he hasn't slept in 24 hours is hard to miss, at any rate. But, uh. If he sees you looking at him?

He's going to just...immediately bolt and hide behind the nearest building/tree/whatever is closest, bye. Just...glaring from his vantage point, which prompts his Teddiursa to be on the defensive as well, growling in a way that can only be described as cute. Not that the little Pokemon understands why, just that his trainer is distressed and he needs to protect him.]

Network/Audio

[Gregory discovers his Gear eventually after setting up pseudo-camp beside a tree among the tall grass, huddling behind it in what he hopes is relative safety out of immediate eyeshot as he gets the thing working. It doesn't take long before he's connected, whispering in hushed tones as if he's afraid he'll be overheard.]

Freddy! Freddy, can you hear me? Hello?! Are you even out there...look, I dunno what happened, but I'm not in the pizzaplex anymore! I got outside...but I don't know where I am now. But there are these...things here. They're not animatronics though, they're...real.

( the feed cuts to saki, trying to smile while her eyes flick around rapidly before she focuses on the camera. behind her, a minior coos softly, like it's trying to encourage her. it's rapidly apparent to see that she's not really ready for the winter, though- a knit sweater's nice and all, but it's not going to keep her shielded from the snow. )

Hi! Uh, so, I'm not sure where I am, and I saw a few network posts about this being normal. The waking up here, I mean. Not... okay, no, sorry.

( she takes a deep breath, composes herself. tries again. )

I need help. The woman I woke up with won't let me back in, and I've only got light jackets, shorts and a skirt. My, um... friend- i don't know what to call it, i'm sorry isn't really able to help, either. Um... a nice old lady told me the scientist here can help a little, so I'm going to go there, but. I can't even leave this town safely right now.

( eventually saki must have managed to flag down help and leave, because she's having quite a time in the woods. it's horribly dark, yes, and she's reluctant to stray from the entrance too far... but her minior keeps jumping into piles of snow and making little craters and it's adorable. )

Are you having fun...? It looks like it! I bet if you could move your arms, you'd make a billion snow angels!

( she'd be tempted to join it, but she'd rather keep an eye out for any wild pokemon- battling was something she struggled to get used to, but she'd rather not be ambushed during play time. however, while she's looking around, the minior rises higher than usual and plummets- and the snow that goes flying everywhere takes no prisoners. including you. )

OH- oh gosh, I'm sorry, she was just playing! Are you okay?

iii. goldenrod city

( she doesn't mean to stop and stare for so long, but the moment saki realized she'd passed an instrument store... well, she couldn't help it. careful to not block the pathway, she stands outside and looks through the window- a drumset, a bass guitar and electric guitar, a keyboard... there's even an actual piano in the back from what she can see. it'd be nice... and she really misses the girls, but... )

... No, we can't afford that right now. And it'd be hard to keep it safe while traveling.

[[OOC: Warning of potential spoilers in any cast mate threads]]

I. Fresh out of the box house

Waking up, rather than booting up, in an unknown room, had been a strange thing to experience. Finding himself not just blocked from databases and uplinks, but lacking them completely, had been shocking. Falling off of the rather small bed and hurting his nose on the floor had been embarrassing, as had his reaction to finding a little blood from his bit lip.

Finally he'd made it out of the house, his bag of supplies and the awkward hug both pressed upon him as he'd left. His lip was still a little sore, but otherwise he was alright, though the sensation of being cold had started to lose it's novelty to him.

"I have spent too much time, I must find where Gregory is. If he is here I need to ensure that he is safe."

The six and a half foot tall man looked about him, hoping for any signs of where he might go to find the child. He was fit, with medium length, shaggy, sandy blond hair that would have just fit back in a short pony tail if it was pulled back. Around his purple eyes were blue and red markings, giving him a slightly exotic look, and dividing his chin in half was a strip of blue colored facial hair, as well as the skin underneath being blue.

A sound not unlike nails on a chalkboard comes from down at his feet and the man looks down. There, trying to find a way to scale it's trainer, is a little Mimikyu.

"I am sorry little one, let me help you." He reached down to scoop up the pokemon, that looked even smaller than normal, and fearlessly put it on his shoulder. It clung there to the simple golden yellow vest that he wore, reaching out to point with one dark, ghostly hand from under it's rag. "Oh, he might be in that direction? Then I shall have to go check." He declared, turning to head toward the grassy area, seeming to miss the signs warning of wild pokemon in the grass.

II. Time for a new stage town

Freddy had reached Cherrygrove in what might have been record time, but unfortunately he had run himself ragged in doing so. "I do not understand, there have been no low power warnings, why do I feel like I need a charging station so much?" He asked to the pokemon on his shoulder, which was, at the moment, a cute little Bounsweet.

"Sweeee~" the little creature trilled, rocking side to side on his shoulder for a moment.

"I do not understand you, though I wish I did." He said, frowning slightly. "It is not your fault though, it is my own. I will have to work harder to understand you. If I had my programming I might be able to figure out a translator, but I am stuck like this now." He admitted.

"Swee... Boun-sweeeee." Came the response, followed by a higher pitched noise as the mammoth man began to fall. The once robotic being had pushed himself to the edge of exhaustion without realizing it.

III. This is a fazwatch poke gear...

[Freddy had found it easy enough to learn the poke gear, and had taken to monitoring it most of the time, but now... now he was feeling like he was running low on options.]

Hello, I know many of you may not know me... my name is Freddy Fazbear.

[On screen is a close up of a face that is both defined and gentle, the camera close enough to pick up on faint scars that exist in the blue and red markings around his eyes.]

I have been looking for someone specific from my home since I arrived here, I did not want to call you out on here, but I am afraid you are in a place I cannot find right now.

[The expression on his face is one of soft worry and sadness.]

Gregory, if you are out there, if it is safe, contact me back. If you do not... I plan to make sure I am very obvious, everywhere I go.

[It's at this that a Scorbunny jumps into frame, starting a blaze for a brief moment before letting it stop.]

If someone knows Gregory, please make sure he is okay with you telling me about where he might be. I want to see him again, very much, but his safety is most important.

Thank you for listening.

New Bark Town | Action - Real Bug Hours

[Haga isn't known for liking people, but one thing's for sure: he likes his parents. And this lady talking to him? That's not his mom. Not even in a million years. As if it wasn't enough of a shock to wake up in a room that wasn't his, now this lady is spouting a bunch of nonsense about Pocket Monsters and how he has to so on a journey?

Before he can really argue with her - and believe it, he would argue for hours if given the chance - he's out the door. He bangs on the door, demanding an explanation, but it's clear the lady inside is pretending not to hear him. Typical adult behavior.

Haga let's out a loud "hmph!" and turns to look at the small town he's found himself in. This place is such a stark contrast to Domino it's not even funny. Not that Haga dislikes rural places and the outdoors. That's where the bugs are after all. But it's grating to only see a few houses here and there and not a single skyscraper in sight. He would be surprised if this place has running water and electricity.

With a sigh, he plops himself down on the ground and spills the contents of the bag given to him in front of him. At least the hag gave him some essentials to not die out here. He picks up the book labelled "manual" and begins to read it, before the shiny, white and red ball next to his foot catches his attention.

He picks it up and following the manual's instructions manages to get the Pokemon out of it. Out of it emerges a Foomantis.

Haga's eyes widen the moment they see the small bug Pokemon staring back at him. He reaches out a hand and touches its head as if to confirm that it is there.]

You... You are real!! [Haga opens the biggest smile and scoops the small bug on his arms.] You are just like a Duel Monster but I can touch you!!! This is so awesome! [He rubs his cheek against Foomantis', who just has a confused look on her face.

You could either tell him he's making a scene or you can just watch this nerd freak out over a bug.]

Route 30 | Network/Video - In His Element

[You wouldn't expect a nerdy and scrawny looking boy like Haga to be able to fend for himself in the great outdoors, but he's actually doing pretty good for himself, and is actually having a blast catching and training his bug team, if the dumb smile on his face is any indication.

Also, the fact that there are many random bug catchers around is a pleasant surprise. Specially because the extra outfit Haga got in his bag was just like the ones worn by the catchers in the routes. It... kinda made him feel like he belonged.

He heard from the bug catchers about a Pokemon called Spinarak that only showed up at night, so when the feed starts Haga is kind of in the dark and it's hard to see him, but his voice is hard to miss, even if he's whispering.]

It's been a while now and I can't seem to spot any Spinarak around here. Anyone has any tricks on how to lure out Pokemon? [He quickly learned that bug Pokemon don't exactly behave or act like regular bugs, so most of his knowledge from back home is a bit moot.]

: Olivine City :
[ Corrin was sat at one of the outdoor booths at Olivine Café, his cheeks stained red with embarrassment at the scene unfurling in front of him. His Ponyta was being unbelievably fussy about the meal he had provided. Due to the unfortunate event that they were sold out of his Ponyta's favourite food, Berry Pie, Corrin had to face a very visibly angry pastel equine sat at his table. The novice trainer may have made the error of promising his Ponyta a delectable slice, only for them to arrive with none in stock. The waitress very kindly offered a dessert sample platter to Corrin's Pokémon, but the horse was in no mood for anything that wasn't pie, scowling mercilessly at Corrin. ]

So, you won't eat this cake.... What about this one?

[ The Ponyta shakes its head. ]

This one?

[ The Ponyta shook its head again, its horn glowing a threatening purple aura. ]

Maybe -- [ And then Ponyta used psychic to toss the snacks off their table into the sea. ]

: Ilex Forest :
[ As dusk veiled across the sky devouring the remnants of the sun's glowing light in a shroud of darkness, Corrin was making his way through the tail end of Ilex forest on his Galarian Ponyta's back, keenly aware of the anxiety his companion Pokémon was feeling from how tense its muscles were with every quickened step. While Corrin was in no particular rush to get to Goldenrod, his Ponyta had other plans: the disgruntled little horse had quite enough of battles from being ambushed by one too many rude Pokémon, and was beyond eager to make a break for it.

Corrin gave the small equine a reassuring pat, fingertips soothingly scratching against his Galarian Ponyta's pearlescent short piled coat.
]

It's okay. I'm here. We're almost out, see? There's nothing to be afraid of...

[ But horses will be horses. Faster than a human could blink, Corrin's Ponyta spooks at a branch snapping nearby and rears up, sending Corrin flying through the air and tumbling straight into a thorn bush. He yelps in pain and can only watch helplessly as his Pokémon gallops off as a faint glow of pastel light, darting off into the distance as the disheveled trainer attempts to stumble after it. ]

Wait--! Ponyta!!

NEW BARK TOWN.

Hey, wait a minute-!

[ Satoko protests as she's pushed out of the house, but her supposed "mother" either doesn't notice or doesn't care, because soon the door is closed right in her face and she's left stranded in an unfamiliar town. What was that? What is going on? Satoko can't understand it at all. And as she looks around, taking it all in... she can't believe her eyes. ]

I must be dreaming. Or perhaps my mind has finally snapped from all that studying...

[ Satoko shudders as she whispers those words to herself. That's actually quite a frightening thought... She's been stuck up in that "study room" for so long that it wouldn't surprise her if she really has lost her mind. As she thinks about it, she suddenly feels a wave of nausea, and a sudden panic starts to creep up on her...

...But as if noticing her distress, her Absol suddenly butts it's head against her, and she relaxes as she feels it's soft fur. Is it trying to comfort her? Satoko smiles softly, and gently strokes Absol's head.

At the very least, this is better than being stuck in that cell. She hasn't felt the warmth of the sun on her face in at least a month... and the feeling of breathing in fresh air is almost intoxicating. In some ways, this is essentially a kind of freedom, is it not?

Thinking of it like that makes her feel a little better. But, still... is she really here all on her own? ...Without Rika?

Trying her best to ignore the anxiety building up inside her once more, Satoko turns to Absol.]

I suppose we'd better be going, you and I.

1: Route 29

[When Paul Atreides woke up, his first thought was that he was dreaming again, but this time is different. This wasn't his bedroom in Caladan, or even less Arrakis. The woman who talked to him like she was his mother wasn't his real mother. While he decided to play the role of her son for the time being rather than protest, he still found himself handed a backpack and all but shoved out the door before he could even start figuring out what was going on.

And now he's standing underneath a tree, somewhere between curious and very, very confused. He looks through the bag he was given for materials he can use to learn where he is. There are some basics - clothes, food, other thing that are useful for obvious reasons. There are some odd machines inside - one labelled as a PokéGear and the other a Pokédex, definitely worth a closer look. He takes his paper cop of the map out of the handbook. This place is called "Johto", it seems, and a nearby sign tells him he's on "Route 29". And then there's the strange ball he was given and told was a "Pokémon". When he presses the button on its center, an orange insect-like Pokémon with a giant mouth appears.]

So. You must be one of these Pokémon my, uh, mother told me about. It looks like we'll be working together.

[The creature rubs its head against Paul's pants leg, already fond of him. Paul can't help but smile a little. There's something endearing about the odd animal. He whips out his Pokédex to identify it.]

According to this machine she gave me, you're a Trapinch. I'm Paul. It's good to meet you.

2: Network

[Paul learned to use and work the Gear he was given relatively quickly. The technology itself isn't that difficult - before long he's got it running. Trapinch is photobombing the camera while Paul is making the video.]

Paul Atreides. I'm under the impression that this network is the best way to get in contact with other outworlders. It's a relief not to be the only one. I had a little bit of an awkward start, but...

[Suddenly, most of the screen is covered by gaping black Trapinch mouth. Paul sighs, as if this has happened before.]

That would be Hulud. He's very...ah, enthusiastic about our journey together. [Paul gently strokes the Trapinch's head, and it closes its mouth.] We'll be reaching our first town after finishing this video. I'm not sure what to expect in Cherrygrove City, but I would also imagine I'm not the first to say that. Either way, wish us luck. It's a long road ahead.

[A lot of amazing things had happened in his life, but this had to be one of the most different, the most unbelievable- so much so that even as he sat here on a fallen log by the grass, he still couldn't quite absorb what had taken place. Woken up here, wherever here was, in a completely different shape and a completely different outfit, given a little monster and all but shoved out the door.

At least the monster was cute.]

Here, fetch!

[He threw the stick as far as he could and the Growlithe, barking happily, bounded off after it. It jumped into the brush and disappeared, rustling around for a few moments, then reappearing. With a bigger stick. Gobo laughed, taking it with a little wrestle.]

Close enough I suppose, eh?

[He scruffled the puppy's- mane? -and tolerated the licking that earned his arm.]

What am I gonna name you...

B - Vermillion City
[All you really had to say to Gobo was "acres of field and forest to explore" and he was gone. Almost literally, like. Hope someone has his PokeGear number to check on him over the next few days, because he's basically disappeared otherwise.

After enough time though he resurfaces, and anyone passing by can catch him emerging from the brush and back onto the main path leading into the city. He spends a moment to pick some of said leaf debris out of his hair and clothing, then makes some kind of note on a large piece of paper from his pocket. Carefully folding that up he heads into the city proper, as if living like a wild child for a week and a half and then dipping back into civilization was a perfectly normal thing to do.

...Then again around here, it kinda was.]

C - Network
[Man no matter how many times he does this he'll never get used to it. Okay, so this button, and then that, and- ah! Got it!]

Hey! Gobo here. So, I've got a question.

[He sits back a bit, so one can see the assorted Pokemon running around behind him. Patting his knee twice he called Growlithe over, who came after tackling a playmate down. Said Pokemon got a greeting scruffle, then Gobo looks back at the PokeGear.]

So, plenty of my other Pokemon have evolved. At first I was wonderin' about Growlithe, but I talked to someone else and figured out he needed some kinda special rock or something.

[He paused, then sighed lightly.] Only I don't know where to find it. I'm gonna guess it's not gonna be randomly on the side of the road.

01. New Bark Town
[What a curious thing. She's stood for a great deal of time at the docks, watching the ships come and go, listening to the ripple of the water, piecing together what information she's been able to acquire so far. It is not nearly as much as she would be comfortable possessing, but from an immediate assessment, it isn't a place filled with malevolence. Even without those who would otherwise protect her, Rhea feels that she is, at least for the moment, safe.

Beside her stands a ralts. Patient and imploring. It doesn't speak, though since she's come to, it's been there and it has yet to leave her side. There don't appear to be other ones either. In consequence, Rhea can only come to assume that it did not come with others. Merely on its own.

As she bends down as carefully as she can, she offers over a hand, slender fingers outstretched with care.]

You must be on your own here, as well. Perhaps you realised that I too came alone [With a soft smile, kind, patient, and understanding, she dips her chin ever in slight, as if in a silent acknowledgement, though she has no real way to know if that is, indeed, the way of it.]

Well, then. If the two of us remain together, neither of us will be alone.

[It doesn't provide her with response. Even so, Rhea's gaze exchanges between the ships and the opposing signs that indicate the road out of New Bark Town.]

Now then, which way do you think we ought to go...?

02. Ruins of Alph
[Admittedly, it loses a bit of its enigmatic wonder when groups of tourists are being led around. The history of the area seems to be largely based on local folklore, though given the lack of familiarity she has to the area, Rhea finds most of it very fantastical. In some ways, however, the ruins do make her think of Fódlan and its own collection of mysteries.

Well. Mysteries perhaps to others. To her...

The scattered voices of some of the other tourists catches her attention and for several long moments, she watches the group as they're led off to the next section and another chapter of fantastical story that Rhea has yet to determine truth or falsehood. She'll follow along in due time, but she suspects they will not miss her for too terribly long.]

Let us take a closer look at things.

[For it's riddled with history and there is likely much to learn. Sometimes one can only figure those out without a collective of voices around. And at the very least, she can treat it as an adventure she otherwise would not be in place to indulge in.]

03. Network | UN: ladyofscripture
[The video feed is awkward at best. Rhea barely has the most minimal knowledge of the features and much of that responsibility has been passed onto her ralts who is attempting to properly prop it up. The initial feed only shows the details of her ornate wear.]

Up a little more... Just a bit, I think.

[She addresses her ralts kindly, and eventually the feed finds her face and the gentle curve of her mouth.]

There we are. Thank you.

[The feed doesn't show it, but she's extending a hand for her ralts to approach her. She likely has the intentions to pick it up and hold it. Turning her attention onto the feed, she begins with a quiet disposition.]

I believe in passing, I may have heard something about contests. I would be most interested in hearing more, if anyone has information.

[Not because she wants to be involved. Only because it simply sounds interesting.]

Johto | Route 30

There's a young man in the forest, wearing what looks like a karate uniform, the top hanging loose and open rather than tucked into the pants like it should be. Down his chest there's a massive scar, at least three inches wide that cuts down as if slicing him in two, only to curve off to the right at his navel. There's another at his collarbone that looks a bit more like a moon, but the scars aren't what's notable about him. Nor is it the blue hair or the serious expression on his face.

No, it's that he's crouched next to a small Cubone, trying to coax it into clubbing a Caterpie that's, for the moment, minding its own business at the edge of the path.

"C'mon, you're already dead. What's it gonna do? Just go over and give it a whack. Then you can eat it." He has not, apparently, been briefed on how things work here.

Johto | Cherrygrove | Near the entrance to Route 30

Is it a man? Is it a monster? Is it a ghost? It's all three! Grimmjow has managed to piss off every Caterpie on Route 30, and he has finally admitted defeat, trudging slowly back towards the town, covered in stringshot strings.

Beside him, there's a small Cubone, marching along like it just won the lottery, holding an unusually large Oran berry in its paws. "Cu! Bone! Cu! Bone!"

"Yeah, yeah," the mass of stringshot grumbles, pausing again to try and pull some of it off, but not having much luck.

I think I got it working? This thing is so weird... Hello? Can anyone hear me? That, uh...that woman back in town said I can talk to people on this thing?

I'm looking for my family, the Madrigals. Has anyone seen them?

[ Because she isn't sure they'd know to check...whatever this thing is either. ]

B. Cherrygrove City

...Wow.

[ Luisa had never seen the ocean before. She'd read a little bit about it, but it was so different from actually standing where the water met the shore, the waves swirling around her bare feet. The printed words in a book couldn't quite capture the magic of the experience.

And while she absolutely loved the view of the Encanto, and wouldn't trade it for anything, the beach held a very different kind of beauty.

She still definitely wanted to go home. But...a part of her also wanted to see what else is out here. ]

C. Ruins of Alph

[ Somehow, Luisa had gotten separated from the rest of the tourist group. Part of her was a little worried about getting lost, but she was also enjoying getting to explore the ruins at her own pace.

Still, as she and her Larvitar were walking past some of the statues in the chamber, she couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched.

She was probably just imagining it, but...it was also a little creepy. ]

He was still in New Bark Town but that didn't tell him anything; he'd never heard of the place before.]
Can anyone tell me what's going on? Please.

Phaaan?

[Glancing down, he rested a hand gently on the strange little creature next to him. It seemed to like him. Or maybe it didn't; he was having trouble figuring that out.]

I don't understand what's going on. I don't know what this is-

[He shifted a bit to show the Phantump at his side.]

It keeps talking to me, I think, but I don't get it.

[He wasn't sure if he was supposed to get it.]

I'd appreciate any help. Thank you.

ii. Ilex Forest

[Adam had spent a good chunk of a year trekking through forests and over lakes and risking getting lost. He wasn't sure if this forest could really compare to Cabeswater, not when Cabeswater had been something other, but it certainly was...intimidating. He was doing his best not to be afraid though; he might have been spooked by a lot of things but he tried not to be a coward. He'd faced so many previous dangers head-on, even when they'd been potentially detrimental to his health. Especially when they had been.

But he still flinched, head whipping around, when he heard something or someone moving through the underbrush. Everything was gloomy, the trees overhead so thick they blotted out nearly all of the sunlight, so it was hard to see the source of the noise. His Phantump stuck close by--he wasn't sure if it was worried about the noise too or just didn't want to become separated.]

Hello? [He was a terrible horror movie cliche, calling out to a noise when he wasn't sure if it was going to rip him to shreds or not, but what else was he supposed to do? Hide?] Is someone there?

iii. National Park

[This was much more Adam's style. He could handle parks.

He sat in the grass just off to the side of a path, enjoying the warm sunlight as his Phantump drifted back and forth nearby, seemingly also...enjoying the sun? He wasn't sure. He didn't know how to read the Pokemon yet, but he was working on it. He also had a deck of tarot cards--not the ones Persephone had given him. Those hadn't made the journey with him. These he'd purchased from a curious little shop that had all sorts of mystical themed items. Most of them he hadn't seen before, but the cards...he'd zeroed in on those and had been unable to leave without them.

Now, as he shuffled the deck and prepared to flip over three cards, he didn't know what he was expecting. Subconsciously, he held his breath as he flipped the cards. He surveyed them silently for a long moment, but...something felt off. Something wasn't right, as if he hadn't figured that out from the moment he'd woken up in this strange place.

Putting the rest of the deck down next to him, he heaved a sigh and pressed the heels of his palms against his eyes. His Phantump drifted over, leaning on the back of his shoulder.]

Phaaan?

Not now. [He murmured, not moving his hands. Everything was wrong, nothing was okay...and he didn't know how to handle it.]

His focus is firmly fixed upon the Cherubi in front of him, the two of them stuck in an eternal cycle as the Pokemon springs forward in an attempt to climb up to his shoulder once more, with Byakuya instead opting to lift the Cherubi off and place her on the ground in front of him.]

What to do with you...

c: Route 29

[It is late afternoon and Byakuya can be found some distance down the road, away from New Bark. His eyes scan over the long grass, obviously looking for something particular as the eager Cherubi hops along beside him.]

...There.

[A singular finger points out to green leaves rustling between the blades of grass, the hint of pink seen between them. It is of course another cherubi, minding its own business.

Che! Ru! Bi! His own cherubi rushes in with no hesitation, effectively leaping on its foe and tackling it to the ground.]

FAR FROM HOME
You're not catching me at my best

The early morning calm of New Bark Town was punctuated, tragically, by quite a lot of shouting, accompanied by the percussive cacophony of a great deal of pounding-on of doors. One in particular, through which a young man had just been thrust, an expression of confusion on his face melting swiftly into incandescent rage. "Journey? What journey?! I- I'm not finished talking to you yet, open this door at once where am I, godsdammit answer me-" perhaps it was force of habit or temper flaring, but the black-haired stranger lashed out, then, striking with his leg in a vicious kick that, in a just and rational world, would have blown the door right off its hinges.

Suffice to say, all that actually occurred was a pained wheeze that escaped the newcomer's lips as he failed, utterly, to accomplish anything more substantial than self-inflicted injury. Amid the contents of an upended satchel stood a torchic, looking innocent and politely confused by the whole affair.

SERENITY
Making the best of what we have

The wilds of route twenty-nine were hardly the ideal place to take stock of his assets, but having thoroughly exhausted the goodwill of the people of the nearby town, Taiki had little in the way of options. "Alright!" He clapped his hands once, staring down at the assembled contents of his bag. His new companion, he had to admit, was being very determinedly helpful. The little creature was called a 'torchic', which was a variety of Pokémon. What in the world was a Pokémon? An excellent question, to which the universe had, thus far, provided the answer of a confused and noncommittal sort of shrug.

The little thing was, however, adorable in a way that reminded him of carbuncles. Perhaps Pokémon were a kind of familiar? "Alright. Let's begin. Plus one change of clothes, plus three changes of underthings, plus one set of toiletries, plus one bedroll, plus one day's worth of food, plus seven bottles of indeterminate alchemical purpose, plus one length of rope, plus one book-" Book. Where had the book come from?

The 'torchic' chirped softly, lowering its (his? hers? He'd have to ask) head to push the little paperback towards him. "'Indigo League Trainer's Handbook'. Well, that's helpful. Thank you." In spite of the gravity of the situation, he couldn't help but smile when the little creature puffed up in pride and bounced in place. "Adorable, however-" He pointed at the much-smaller collection of items which he'd retrieved from about his person. "Plus six red-and-white metal orbs whose purpose I cannot bloody fathom, plus one odd little red device that looks a bit like a tomestone, plus two soul crystals which have thus far proven useless, plus one linkpearl which is equally useless, plus one handful of gil, plus one stack of bank notes of some description, and minus... literally everything else. No staff, no other soul crystals aside from the one I was using and Azem's. No magic, either, nor ki nor echo nor even so much as a flicker of aether, as best as I can tell." No friends, either. That was the worst bit, and he was actively trying not to think about it. "Minus one perfectly good pair of ears, too, the bastards." The most annoying bit. He kept reaching up to the top of his head, just to check if they were still there, and all he had were two funny little tufts of hair that refused to go down, as though to taunt him with the absence. Someone, clearly, was having a lark.

The as-yet-unnamed torchic warbled softly, and he felt compelled to reach down, one finger scratching idly under the avian's chin. "Plus one little friend. The question is, what's our next move?" This, he addressed to his one companion, who duly tilted its head in polite confusion. "Not a clue, then? Fair enough! Order the first of business today... work out where in the hells we actually are, apart from 'New Bark Town'. Order the second, work out if it's only me here, or whether anyone else has made it! Order the third: obviously there's some sort of impending apocalypse. That's just the way my fortunes turn. Right?" Chirp. Taiki nodded sagely. "Right. World about to end, make Taiki fix it. Always worked that way before, stands to reason 'twould work that way again. Order the... dunno, we could fit this in there somewhere I'm sure, but I'm going to have to work out something to call you, little friend..."

A young man having an apparently one-sided conversation with an orange chicken couldn't possibly be that odd, could it?

NETWORK: UNWOUND
Fraying at the seams

Taiki had kept it together this far. With effort, and with the assistance of a kindly young woman who'd spotted him fiddling with his Pokégear, he'd managed to activate the camera. "Like this? Oh! yes, I see the little light, like you said. Thank you!"

"Oh, no problem," said a voice offscreen. "Think you'll be alright?"

He inhaled, closed his eyes a moment, and smiled, as he looked into the camera. "I should have it now. Hello, friends." He raised a hand in greeting. "I'm afraid I could not for the life of me get the hang of writing on this bloody thing, but at the very least I've got the..." He frowned, snapped his fingers, gesturing vaguely at nothing.

"Camera?"

"Camera! Yes. I've got the camera working, and that ought to be enough for the moment, as my new friend tells me I should be able to put this up where all can see! Very clever, I have to say, mayhap I can show this to people back home once I return, but on that point- my name is Taiki. I've come to you all with a request, for information. I'm searching for some very dear friends of mine, and if there's aught anybody has heard of them, I can't promise a reward, but I would be incredibly grateful."

He offered a smile, and hoped against hope that the slightly-desperate edge to it didn't show. "I'm quite lost without them, I'm afraid! So! Names, sorry. There's, ah..." He held out fingers, counting as he went. "Thancred Waters, Y'shtola Rhul, Estinien Varlineau, Alphinaud and Alisae Leveilleur, Urianger Augurelt, G'raha Tia... Krile Baldesion and Tataru Taru." Not nearly everyone. But he suspected that was a starting point. "Failing that, if there's anyone else who's somehow made it here from Eorzea, or perhaps mentioned it, I really would take it as a personal favor if you could help me get in touch. Until then- Duster, love, that's not food, spit it out-"

He'd dropped the gear, and the feed went dark. Ah well. He hadn't felt like recording it again, and so it had been posted on the network. With all good fortune, he'd receive a response...

He wasn't fully aware that this was a Real Deal New World, but he'd thoroughly convinced himself he'd somehow been pulled into a different VRMMO, one that he (once again) could not log out of. But there was a twist in that he knew this. It had all been so familiar and to say he looked excited would be an understatement.

He had been walking along route 29 for a while now, taking it all in, his Honedge floating along beside him because really, he'd needed someone to talk to while he figured out the details of this new game. ]

Bottom-up tech. It's gotta be. No amount of detail could be made like this in top-down, right? The sun has the same warmth as home, the smells are so real, the touch... The processing power this server has must be insane. It's a shame that it'll all get shut down if being stuck here is more than just a glitch. You'd think people would learn. But there are worse situations to be stuck in, right?

...Honedge?

[ Okay, he hadn't actually been expecting a response, especially when he hadn't even given his pokémon an official name yet, but the complete silence isn't want confuses him so much as when he looks around for the sword, he can't find it. ]

Where did you...?

[ His face falls into annoyance when he sees the blade has wedged itself between some rocks, almost like Excalibur. Kirito crosses his arms quickly. How is he supposed to get it out of there? ]

Drama queen. I wasn't talking that much.

[ Network; Video | UN: kirito ]

[ The boy on the feed looks like he could be a generic tsundere anime protagonist, with his dark hair and somewhat serious expression as he settles himself down against a rock now that the video is steady. He crosses his arms over his chest.

Only he can't keep up that act for very long. Even with the potential severity of the situation, he grins from ear to ear as he addresses the network. ]

Pokémon. There's real, live pokémon! I can't believe they went and made one of these without it leaking out to the public! Is this a beta? The whole kidnapping thing doesn't usually go very well, they really should consider maybe... Y'know... sign ups? There has literally never been a successful launch of any game that has ever started with people not being able to find their log-out buttons.

[ Which reminds him of that serious part. He sighs, the grin fading, and he rubs his forehead. ]

Which reminds me: three questions! First, is there a way to search to see who is logged into the system? Second, is there any way to contact the outside world? And most importantly, I guess: what's the deal with the death system in this place?

[ Most of the games Asuna knows have some sort of messaging system. It’s not surprising that this one has one too. Naturally, it’s the best way to introduce oneself, not to mention the best way to ask questions and receive information from the larger group.

She’s still pretty convinced that she’s just stuck in another full-dive world, but it’s not quite like most of the others she’s been in. What makes her the most nervous is that she can’t seem to log out of the system.

She’s feeling panicky about that, but it’s almost impossible to pick up on from the composure she showcases as she addresses the feed. ]

Good afternoon, I apologize for the disturbance, but I’m seeking information. You see I’ve woken up here, without any memory of how I got here. This isn’t a game that I’ve ever played before and I don’t know how I’ve found myself here. Though not unprecedented, it’s hardly appropriate of whoever is in charge here to be stealing people. I know from experience that administrators with that sort of directive don’t tend to care about the opinions of the common player, so I’m sure it’s fruitless to ask who the leader of this realm is. Instead, I’m hopeful to just get some information from the general population of players about the situation we are in. If anyone could be so kind as to explain to me what is going on, or give me any information at all, it would be greatly appreciated.

I’m also wondering if perhaps I’ve simply overlooked something and there is in fact a logout out option. If so, would someone please tell me it’s location. My mother won’t appreciate it if I’m late for dinner again.

[ Around Town ]

(( OOC: either action tagging or threading fine ))

Asuna knew from experience that one of the first things you had to do when you are in a new place that you don’t know was to try and map out the area and get adjusted to the main surroundings. It was important to know where food, shelter, weapons, and other important gaming equipment could be found. This place didn’t seem to be quite like that; for one thing there weren’t any weapons. She’s not quite sure what that means for this particular game, but it makes her feel a little vulnerable.

Another difference she's noticed is that she’s being followed by an adorable little creature, who she’s learned is called a pachirisu. She’s never been one to choose an animal companion, that was more her friend Silica’s thing. However, it would appear that this little creature had chosen her. She wasn’t going to brush off any potential assistance in an unfamiliar place, so if the funky little squirrel wanted to tag along, she wasn’t going to dismiss it. Besides, it was rather adorable.

She’s gotten a little bit of information from the person in the house she’d woken up in that was so insistent about being her mother, but what information she had gotten was not all that helpful. Especially since the woman appeared to her to be an NPC and mainly a non helpful one. She hadn’t cared too much about being kicked out as it gave her the kick she needed to get out and go find the information she wanted.

She continued on her exploration, stopping to look in several shops or meandering the streets, looking for information, people, or anything that might help her figure out why and how she ended up here. More importantly, she wants to find a way to get home. She’s very focused, so it’s possible that she might bump into a stranger while she’s in the stores or in the streets.

When she finally needs a break from searching the town, she grabs some food and makes her way down to the water near Cherry Grove for a brief break from the stress of it all. She finds a quiet little spot to eat, but she doesn’t really feel hungry. Thinking she’s alone, she takes the time to feel the frustration and the fear and the pain of being trapped someplace once again. When she notices she’s not alone, she’s quick to wipe at her eyes and offer an apologetic smile.

“Sorry, about that. I’m fine really.”

G'rhyf Kett (Warrior of Light) | FFXIV

Dark Cave

[Exploring caves is hardly anything new for G'rhyf. The utter lack of light is a little concerning (not a single crystal or strange fungus to shed light down here? really?), but it's not insurmountable. A sturdy branch and the sacrifice of part of a towel later, they have a perfectly serviceable torch to light the way! Their little companion seems less confident, but so far this little trek hasn't been too difficult.]

[Keywords 'so far'.]

[The previous obstacles had been easy enough to find a way past, whether by G'rhyf's own ingenuity or their companion's considerable power. But this boulder is not so easily shattered, and far too large to move. But perhaps, G'rhyf had thought, the spaces around might be wide enough to crawl through...Ralts and their bag made it through easily enough, but G'rhyf only manages to shimmy half-way through before the stone just happens to shift to the side slightly, and--well.]

[Depending on the direction you come from, you'll see either G'rhyf's torso or legs lying dejectedly over the boulder, and with their front comes a very worried little Ralts jumping up and down with a torch levitating over his head. Upon seeing or hearing your approach, however, they perk up and squirm slightly.]

Hey! A little help here?

Network

[The video opens on a blurry view of the ground before the camera is swapped to the correct side. The young man looks utterly miserable, their expression pulled tight with pain, and they shift as if trying to get into a comfortable position.]

So, ah...I could use a little bit of advice. I made a poor choice in foraging earlier, and whatever is in these fruits set in rather fast. [They hold up a Cherri berry with a few bites taken out of it, wincing slightly with the movement.] If this is what happens to your joints with age, I think I'll be happier with a young death to be perfectly frank. If anyone knows of some way to alleviate the symptoms I'd greatly appreciate it.
