Flipping his own 'dex shut, Ichigo put it back in his pocket. "Aizen wasn't big on reading, I'm guessing?" Seeing the apron had him smiling a little. "Ah, you have one, too." He reached down and picked Vox up, stroking her fur. "Far as I can tell, there's like two roles you can have. A pokemon trainer who tries to catch every kind of pokemon. And breeders, who work on getting pokemon to make babies with certain moves or with a rare coloration. They call them 'shiny' pokemon."

"No," Grimmjow agreed, trying very hard to pretend that they weren't talking, as he carefully pulled the apron on, tied it behind his back. "Just enough of th' numbers to know what captain we were killin'," and then he flashed Ichigo a feral grin.

The explanation of rolls, though... "Which kind's stronger?"

"Well, this alphabet is weird as hell, so we'll just learn it together, I guess." At least he had some experience with English, which the letters were kind of similar to.

"Y'know, I honestly don't know. I think breeders can get more loyalty than trainers, just 'cause you want the pokemon to be happy and like you so that they'll cooperate with the breeding efforts. But that's my opinion. But that apron means you've been assigned as a pokemon breeder, though." Vox yawned in his lap, pawing at the sagging front of his apron.

Grimmjow frowned down at himself, then looked at the Cubone. "D... do they just... split or somethin'? An' I thought you said this one was a baby," he eyed his Cubone warily as the little thing started climbing up his leg.

"Cu! Bone!" He grunted with each inch gained.

"They never really went into that in the game. I didn't play much, but my sisters did, and I think there was a place you could leave a male and a female pokemon at, and then when you went to pick them up there would be an egg to pick up, too. So I have no idea how they breed."

Ichigo helped Vox back into the front of his apron, then grinned at Cubone. "I think he wants you to carry him the way I have Vox. Which means you might need to loosen it around your neck."

Grimmjow hummed, grabbing the Cubone under the arms and holding him up, giving him a long looking-over again. "Well. I ain't leavin' him alone somewhere," he decided, and set Cubone on his lap as he loosened the neck portion.

And then the little guy scrabbled into the front of the apron. "Cubone!"

Oh. Oh. That was way better looking on Grimmjow than it had any right to be. Cubone looked thrilled, and Grimmjow looked… good.

Grimmjow also looked oblivious, watching Cubone shuffled around in his apron to settle against his chest and fall asleep, his little tummy full from the large berry. He tightened the neck up, just enough to be sure Cubone would be securely supported before looking up at Ichigo and blinked. "What?"

“Nothing.” That he was willing to admit to. Ichigo made sure Vox was secure and that his bag was packed again before shrugging it back onto his shoulders. “Wanna stick together?”

Grimmjow reached down to repack his bag, grunting softly when Ichigo gave him a non-answer. "Yeah. You know about this shit," and he didn't. Ichigo was the one person he trusted not to take advantage of that fact. "So... those Quincy I was about to fight. The fuck was up with 'em?"

[strawberryprotector]

"Their leader? Apparently, the son of the Soul King. He wanted to kill his father and blur the lines between the worlds. And he could control all Quincies. Including me, because apparently my Mom was one." Was Ichigo still upset about all the secrets and lies his father told him? Absolutely. But there was nothing he could do about it at the moment. "He took Halibel prisoner. She lived, I helped save her, but, y'know, watch out for that if we get sent back?"

Grimmjow side-eyed Ichigo for a long moment. "What the fuck are you, a little bit of everything? No wonder you kick everything's ass," he grumbled, slouching over his napping pokemon. "Human an' Soul Reaper an' Hollow an' Quincy. That much crap mixed up we're fuckin' lucky you don't just blow up an' rip a hole in the universe," he grumbled, glowering at Ichigo like it was his fault he was a mutt.

"I know, right?!" Ichigo would have completely thrown his own hands up in disbelief, but Vox was making adorable little snoring sounds. "My dad was a captain, who abandoned his position to save the life of my mom. She was a Quincy who got infected with hollow reiatsu from, get this, one of Aizen's experiments. I didn't even know about her until the big boss of the Quincies broke Zangetsu and I got to basically have like a few hours to say my goodbyes before potentially failing to keep reality from falling apart." Was he still bitter? Very. "At this point? I think the only thing I'm not is a pokemon."

Grimmjow frowned, brow furrowing as listened to Ichigo's explanation. "If your dad was a fuckin' Captain, why the fuck did he leave all the fightin' to you?" he demanded. "You idiots talk like protectin' family is so damn important, then why the fuck don't you act like it?"

Though talking about family made him look down at Cubone again... and rubbed its head a little as it napped against his chest.

“Probably to punish me for my Mom’s death.” Really, it was the only thing Ichigo could come up with. Never mind that his parents had never told him about hollows or how to identify them. Never mind that he’d been a child of nine. Surely, his father’s training methods were also part of the punishment as well.

Grimmjow let out a low growl. "Next time you see 'im you fuckin' point me at 'im," he replied simply. He didn't know anything about Ichigo's mom or her death, but he knew one thing for certain. Ichigo didn't hurt anybody, let alone kill them, unless he had no other choice.

“There was a hollow, Grand Fisher. I didn’t know what hollows were, I still had trouble telling the living and the dead apart. Fell for his trap, Mom died protecting me.” Ichigo cleared his throat and started walking in the direction he’d been heading originally. “As long as my sisters aren’t there, I’d be happy to let you loose on him. They don’t need to see that kind of brutality.”

Grimmjow fell into step beside him, scowling as he listened. "Yeah, well, that ain't your fault. You're not fuckin' stupid enough to believe that, either," he added, reaching up to thump the back of Ichigo's head. "But I'll still kick his damn ass for it."

Ichigo side eyed Grimmjow when he was thumped on the head. “Of course it wasn’t my fault! My parents never told me a damn thing to prepare me for running into Shinigami or hollows. That’s their fault, not mine.”

[kingcat]

"Then don't make it sound like you believe that shit," he huffed, folding his arms over his... well, he was going to fold them over his chest, but Cubone was in the way. So he folded them over his midsection, underneath the sleeping pokemon.

"I'll try." And he would, truly. But Ichigo's mother had been dead for more of his life than she'd been alive. "Anyway, let's see what else we can go find. I bet there's more berries, and more pokemon we can catch."

[kingcat]

Grimmjow nodded firmly, letting out a soft sigh. "Watch out for the damn worms. They'll spit sticky crap all over you," he warned. "I was tryin' to get this little thing to fight 'em but he just cried."

[strawberryprotector]

"It's probably one of the only things they know how to do. I mean, Vox only knows two attacks because she's so little and at a low level." That was the problem with low level pokemon, but Ichigo knew they could get stronger.

[kingcat]

Grimmjow hummed thoughtfully. "So, like... he needs t'learn to do a cero or somethin'?" he asked, looking down at his little Pokemon.

[strawberryprotector]

"Kinda? But not a cero, because I think they can only learn certain types of moves." Ichigo pulled his pokedex out and searched about types and moves. "So like, all pokemon can learn certain 'normal' moves," he made air quotes with one hand, "but then they have special moves based on their type. Like, Vox is a fire type, so she'll learn moves that are based on fire and flames. But Cubone is a ground type, so he'll learn things related to that."
