Grimmjow fell into step beside him, scowling as he listened. "Yeah, well, that ain't your fault. You're not fuckin' stupid enough to believe that, either," he added, reaching up to thump the back of Ichigo's head. "But I'll still kick his damn ass for it."

Ichigo side eyed Grimmjow when he was thumped on the head. “Of course it wasn’t my fault! My parents never told me a damn thing to prepare me for running into Shinigami or hollows. That’s their fault, not mine.”

"Then don't make it sound like you believe that shit," he huffed, folding his arms over his... well, he was going to fold them over his chest, but Cubone was in the way. So he folded them over his midsection, underneath the sleeping pokemon.

"I'll try." And he would, truly. But Ichigo's mother had been dead for more of his life than she'd been alive. "Anyway, let's see what else we can go find. I bet there's more berries, and more pokemon we can catch."

Grimmjow nodded firmly, letting out a soft sigh. "Watch out for the damn worms. They'll spit sticky crap all over you," he warned. "I was tryin' to get this little thing to fight 'em but he just cried."

"It's probably one of the only things they know how to do. I mean, Vox only knows two attacks because she's so little and at a low level." That was the problem with low level pokemon, but Ichigo knew they could get stronger.

Grimmjow hummed thoughtfully. "So, like... he needs t'learn to do a cero or somethin'?" he asked, looking down at his little Pokemon.

[strawberryprotector]

"Kinda? But not a cero, because I think they can only learn certain types of moves." Ichigo pulled his pokedex out and searched about types and moves. "So like, all pokemon can learn certain 'normal' moves," he made air quotes with one hand, "but then they have special moves based on their type. Like, Vox is a fire type, so she'll learn moves that are based on fire and flames. But Cubone is a ground type, so he'll learn things related to that."

He hummed thoughtfully. "Okay, so he'll be able to do shit with rocks? Does that thing say what moves he's got?" It seemed awfully similar to being a hollow to him, just the basic moves weren't what he'd expected.

[strawberryprotector]

"Um, let's see." Ichigo pointed his dex at Cubone and let it scan the sleepy little tyke. "Looks like he knows two moves. Growl, which can intimidate an opponent, and tail whip, which is an offense move." He then pointed it at Vox, who made a little murmur in her sleep. "Vox also can do tail whip, as well as the fire move ember."

Grimmjow hummed softly, looking down at his Cubone. "So I just gotta tell him t'use them an' then he can beat stuff up... we'll make you strong enough t'kill anythin'," he assured his sleeping pokemon, patting its head lightly. "Just gotta know the right way t'do it, I guess."

"Yeah, pretty much. He can get practice against wild pokemon when you try to catch them." Looking through his dex, Ichigo made an interested sound. "So both Vox and Cubone can evolve into a stronger form, but for different reasons. Cubone has to hit a certain level, while I'll have to find a specific item to expose Vox to for her to evolve."

Grimmjow hummed thoughtfully. "That's weird," he decided, peering at Ichigo's dex. "Does that thing tell you their level? It's like a measurement, not a ranking, right? So higher is better."

[strawberryprotector]

"Lemme check." Ichigo scanned each pokemon again to see if she could find out. "Looks like they're level five. Cubone needs to get to level twenty to evolve."

[kingcat]

Grimmjow nodded seriously. "Measurement, then," he agreed. "Five seems real low, I guess starting him on fighting worms was a good idea," a worm couldn't be that strong, right? Never mind that they'd managed to cover him in stringshot.

"And we're close to where we started at, so the opponents here are weaker. The farther we travel, the stronger the pokemon will get."
