Hello? Is- [No, he doubted there would be anyone he knew here, and if there was...he doubted some of them would even want to talk to him.
He was still in New Bark Town but that didn't tell him anything; he'd never heard of the place before.] Can anyone tell me what's going on? Please.
Phaaan?
[Glancing down, he rested a hand gently on the strange little creature next to him. It seemed to like him. Or maybe it didn't; he was having trouble figuring that out.]
I don't understand what's going on. I don't know what this is-
[He shifted a bit to show the Phantump at his side.]
It keeps talking to me, I think, but I don't get it.
[He wasn't sure if he was supposed to get it.]
I'd appreciate any help. Thank you.
ii. Ilex Forest
[Adam had spent a good chunk of a year trekking through forests and over lakes and risking getting lost. He wasn't sure if this forest could really compare to Cabeswater, not when Cabeswater had been something other, but it certainly was...intimidating. He was doing his best not to be afraid though; he might have been spooked by a lot of things but he tried not to be a coward. He'd faced so many previous dangers head-on, even when they'd been potentially detrimental to his health. Especially when they had been.
But he still flinched, head whipping around, when he heard something or someone moving through the underbrush. Everything was gloomy, the trees overhead so thick they blotted out nearly all of the sunlight, so it was hard to see the source of the noise. His Phantump stuck close by--he wasn't sure if it was worried about the noise too or just didn't want to become separated.]
Hello? [He was a terrible horror movie cliche, calling out to a noise when he wasn't sure if it was going to rip him to shreds or not, but what else was he supposed to do? Hide?] Is someone there?
iii. National Park
[This was much more Adam's style. He could handle parks.
He sat in the grass just off to the side of a path, enjoying the warm sunlight as his Phantump drifted back and forth nearby, seemingly also...enjoying the sun? He wasn't sure. He didn't know how to read the Pokemon yet, but he was working on it. He also had a deck of tarot cards--not the ones Persephone had given him. Those hadn't made the journey with him. These he'd purchased from a curious little shop that had all sorts of mystical themed items. Most of them he hadn't seen before, but the cards...he'd zeroed in on those and had been unable to leave without them.
Now, as he shuffled the deck and prepared to flip over three cards, he didn't know what he was expecting. Subconsciously, he held his breath as he flipped the cards. He surveyed them silently for a long moment, but...something felt off. Something wasn't right, as if he hadn't figured that out from the moment he'd woken up in this strange place.
Putting the rest of the deck down next to him, he heaved a sigh and pressed the heels of his palms against his eyes. His Phantump drifted over, leaning on the back of his shoulder.]
Phaaan?
Not now. [He murmured, not moving his hands. Everything was wrong, nothing was okay...and he didn't know how to handle it.]
iv. Wildcard
[ooc: got another idea or something? Come at me with it :3 I'll also do prose!]
Ilex Forest
Though hearing a voice after his Luxio had broken a few twigs wasn't something he'd thought he'd hear this time of day.]
Sorry sorry, I didn't think anyone was nearby. I was just trying to catch a new team member.
[He stepped slowly from behind a bush, making sure not to startle the person who'd spoken up.]
no subject
Adam took a deep breath, a hand pressed against his chest to try and calm his racing heart.]
It's okay. I'm just a little jumpy.
[And that wasn't anybody's fault but his own. Or maybe it was his father's, if you were getting technical.
Catching a new team member was still a weird sentence to hear. He hadn't quite gotten the hang of all of this yet, though he was trying his best.]
What were you looking for, exactly?
no subject
So far, this boy doesn't, judging by his reactions.]
You gonna be alright?
I was looking for a Pokémon called Zorua, they're said to be able to look like other things and Pokémon. It's a little black fox with red fur on its head.
no subject
I'll be fine, thank you.
[He felt a little embarrassed, but things could be a lot worse, he supposed. At least he hadn't shrieked or done something else silly, and at least the other boy was being kind.
That said, Adam had no idea what a Zorua was, but it sounded interesting.]
So it's a shapeshifter? Or is it more like an illusion? I can't imagine something like that will be easy to find.
National Park
He didn't ask the obvious question of 'is aught amiss'. Most people, when prompted with such a question, would respond with something to the effect of 'oh, no, I'm quite alright, thanks for asking', and that would be that. With the unspoken bit of 'I'm really not, but you're a stranger and I'd rather not be a bother' hanging in the air and strangling in the cradle any attempt at rendering aid.
So! Attack from an unusual angle, redirect. He approached, leaned over slightly to examine the cards, smiled. "Are you doing Astrology?" He glanced up at the other man, pointing at the middle card. "Only I don't recognize the Arcana so they must be different from my home, but they look so much more portentious than your usual playing cards."
no subject
"They're for telling someone's future." Or communicating with a magic forest, as the case might be. Adam had been hoping the cards would tell him something about this place, just...communicate something with him. But something was off and he couldn't place his finger on what. Maybe it was him. Could it be the 'something off' was him? "They're different than I'm used to, too."
no subject
He took a seat on the park bench, beckoning a torchic into his lap. "I don't mind returning the favor, of course. I'm Taiki, yourself?"
