[Oh yes, he's well versed in how spectacularly impulsive decisions work out. He knows Claude.]

A snow worm?

[There's something unsettling about a worm this size but then she goes and says the Byleth is responsible for it's name and Lorenz just....]

The.... Professor named him what?

[ Sounds like her kind of guy. ]

The who now? [ A squint at Lorenz as he calls Byleth a 'professor.' ] Wait- Oh, huh. You must be someone from his world, I guess. He mentioned a few of them were here.

[ Anyway. The Snom rests on top of Rosie's hands now, peering up at Lorenz. ]

His name is Little Guy. He is very squishy and adorable.

Yes, he was a professor at the military academy I attended as a teenager.

[But he, too, turns his attention back to the little snom. Cautiously he lifts one hand, fingertips brushing ever so lightly over the small worm's head. It's a curious sensation, somewhere between smooth, silky skin and fine velveteen fur like a caterpillar. Not at all the almost rubbery texture he'd expected.]

Oh he's soft! [Surprised but clearly delighted]

[ That man named his Espurr 'Breakfast' and looked about as vacant as a Motel 8 from the early 80s that hadn't changed since. A professor. That guy. Is she sure they're talking about the same guy? Well. He was nice enough to her, at least, that she doesn't really dwell on it.

The Snom gives a delighted cooing noise as he's pet, eyes closed and nuzzling up into those fingers. ] He is! Right? I wasn't expecting it either but I guess he is a worm-bug-thing. It makes sense.

Just, y'know, mind the ice spikes. Those things are also a lot sharper than they look.

[ And she let him name her snom so really, can she complain? ]

That is good though, having some way to defend himself. Especially...

[He shakes his head a bit, turning his attention back from the snom to Rosie herself.]

People seem distressingly eager to start fights here. For no reason, even... It's strange

[ ... Fair point, sir. ]

You're telling me, dude. I'm a pacifist. Getting told I have to 'battle' other creatures with this guy is, like- Why?

[ She doesn't get it! Yes, she's a 'Trainer' according to them but, like, can't she just... befriend these things without having to beat them into submission. ]

At least he has spikes to defend himself with.

[Lorenz frowns a little and withdraws the pokéball that holds his own.... friend? A press of the button, a little flash and... that sure is a floating teacup.]

The poor thing's porcelain is already chipped! I can hardly be expected to let wild animals paw at it and damage it further.

[He says this but the little spirit in the teacup merely releases it's hold on it's own broken handle to clap fingers and thumb together in the classic gesture for "blah blah blah". A teacup with an attitude problem. Beautiful.]

[ They are friends!

And this one is especially! It's so cute. She had been told that some of them looked like actual items from home and they weren't kidding. It's interesting to see it sway as it does, eyes large and 'spirit' overflowing a little out the chip he mentions. ]

Aw, yeah, I wouldn't want to see it broken any more than it is either. But, uh. [ SNRK at that sassy little clap back at Lorenz as he speaks. ] Honestly, it has enough attitude I wouldn't be surprised if it could hold its own.

[As soon as she snorts he whips his head around to look at the teacup in question, floating there, innocent as could be.... now. Well it's a fast teacup if nothing else.]

Perhaps but I have no intention of giving it the opportunity!

[And the moment he's not looking again the sinistea is rolling it's eyes. Hey! It can fight!!]

[ Ehe. She likes this sassy teacup. You tell 'im. ]

Well, then you're gonna have to find someone else if you want to battle! I'm, uh. Not sure how it's gonna work for me here since I'm not about that life but we'll see.

Surely it's not so ingrained that it would be problematic to.... not fight?

[He looks like he's trying to convince himself as much as her. Of course then he looks back over to his sassy little teacup who's tottering off to one side....

And eyeing Rosie to see if she's paying attention to it.]

Tch. Oh no you don't. You leave them alone.

[Lorenz plucks the pokémon out of the air, cradling it in his hands to prevent it from slinking around behind Rosie to scare her or Little Guy.]

I'm sure it'll be fine! I mean, yeah, they probably have like... fighting instincts but I don't think it'll be a problem. [ Or perhaps she's just using personal experience since, well, her own fighting instincts have been curbed.

She does catch the movement out of her periphery but he's already taking care of it. ]

Sorry, Chip, it's gonna' take more than that to scare me. Nice effort though.

[Lorenz is nodding along. No different than some hounds, really. Ensure they get adequate exercise and stimulation and they should be just fine. Especially when some of these creatures are clearly not meant for fighting in any way.]

Troublesome, this one. I'm going to have to keep a close eye on it.

[ She can't imagine her Little Guy in a fight; of course, she'll be likely to change her mind when and if he shoots out ice spikes. That'll be a treat. ]

You know, they do say that pets tend to take after their owners... [ Sorry, Lorenz, that was too good an opportunity to pass up for teasing. ]

[He looks absolutely scandalized for a moment but then his expression softens and he looks over at the little mischief maker with a small, sad smile.]

No, I'm not the troublesome one... It does remind me of someone, though.

[Not the first time he's thought his sinistea must somehow take after Claude, nor will it be the last.]

[ Alright, well- That was kind of cute. She'll give him that one. This time. ]

Yeah? Well, hey, that's a good thing. Means your bond will be even stronger and all that jazz.
