I hope so, she's really cute. [And Mikasa really needed a fire type, even if her one didn't seem like she'd be much of a fighter. But vulpix was really fluffy.]

My first pokemon listened to me right away, most of the time... She used to run off the fight. [That had gotten better since she'd evolved though.]

Adam glanced around briefly, making sure there wasn't anyone else around--or maybe a hidden camera or something. "Is this a trick question?"

It felt like the kind of prank someone would play and he was wary to fall for it. He was pretty sure he'd seen things like this online before--not here, but back in Henrietta or at Harvard.

[Adam blushed a little but nodded.]

I'll be fine, thank you.

[He felt a little embarrassed, but things could be a lot worse, he supposed. At least he hadn't shrieked or done something else silly, and at least the other boy was being kind.

That said, Adam had no idea what a Zorua was, but it sounded interesting.]

So it's a shapeshifter? Or is it more like an illusion? I can't imagine something like that will be easy to find.

Awesome! Oh, here— [ Rainer pulls out her Gear and holds it out for Rose to see. ] Let's exchange numbers! That way you can always reach me, no matter where I am.

If that is what you wish. [It isn't as though he can force anyone into doing anything else.] But if your health were to falter due to the winter chill, there are people who would be upset at such an event.

...What drew you to the Ruins of Alph, if I may be so bold as to ask? Simple curiosity? [Since she seems so averse to giving answers, Dimitri supposes he may as well give his own.] Kent is a native to these lands, so I thought perhaps he would like to see them again. It has been over a year... at least, for he and I.

[Kent blinks sleepily once more, making a soft noise of agreement.]

[Ichigo sees Grimmjow getting ready to charge at some guy holding a pokemon. It looks like the guy holding the pokemon is the victim, which isn't surprising. So he runs, drops his right shoulder, and tries to side tackle the arrancar.]

Ichigo bit back a laugh at the cubone's behavior, taking a moment to scratch Vox under the chin. And then the comment about the Quincies sunk in. "Wait, still? Or were they just starting to show up?"

Had they been pulled from different time points?

"No, dumbass. I'm dead," he rolled his eyes, like it should've been obvious, and returned his attention to Cubone once more. "Go on, just smack it a little, okay? It'll be fine."

"Cuuuu," the pokemon replied, and started marching towards Caterpie.

"What do ya mean still," Grimmjow scoffed. "You think I'm gonna let those little punks just take over? Tch. Harribel won't even have to get off her stupid throne."

He seemed to find the master thread, and with one big tug, the majority of the sticky stuff tumbled to a pile at his feet. Cubone immediately hopped in and started burying his berry in the strings.

"What the fuck're you wearing?" he asked, now that he was taking the time to actually look at Ichigo.

Adam opened his mouth a bit, closed it again, and considered that for a moment. "I'd say you're a bully more than a ghost," he said.

His Phantump looked at him uncertainly, with a quiet "Phaaan?"

"There's no need to resort to violence. What did that-" Uh, oh no, what was that Pokemon, anyway? "-what did it ever do to you?" He had a bad feeling about this.

[Grimmjow does not see it coming. He doesn't even sense that Ichigo is remotely close by, and he has not yet realized just how severely his senses have been dulled.

So Ichigo connects almost perfectly, and the sound Grimmjow makes is far from dignified as all the air is forced from his lungs and he tumbles across the ground. He is discovering in real time that his Hierro is gone, and his pain tolerance? Nonexistent. He's gonna be down. For a minute.]

"Kid I am way worse than a ghost," and with the grin Grimmjow flashes, it's pretty obvious that he's at least trouble.

Cubone reaches the Caterpie, waggling his bone a few times.

"Peee?" the Caterpie asks, even as the bone club comes down and... bonks it, ever so gently, on the head. "Pee," it is such a sad little noise from the Caterpie that Cubone tosses down its club and starts wailing and crying.

And Grimmjow groans. "That," he said, gesturing at the crying pokemon.

"Fuck."

There was a stump close by that Ichigo walked over and dropped down onto, pulling Vox out of his apron as he did so in case she wanted to explore. Once hand came up to comb through his hair as he looked at Grimmjow seriously. "I don't know what sent us or brought us to this place, but it didn't pull us from the same point in time. Probably by a few months, if I had to guess. The last thing that you remember before coming here is in the past to me."

Oh no. "Right. Bullies are way worse than ghosts," Adam said.

Stepping around Grimmjow, he went over to crouch down next to the Cubone and Caterpie, gently patting one and then the other. "Hey, little guy," he said just as gently to the Cubone. "You're okay. No one's hurt." He even turned to check on the Caterpie to make sure it didn't have a bump or anything, assuming that it would if it'd been hit too hard.

"You're okay, right?" He knew he wouldn't understand any answers, but he figured Pokemon were like dogs, maybe; they could understand tone of voice.

Grimmjow frowns, stepping out of the strings and following Ichigo. His clothes beneath the strings was something more akin to a karate training outfit than the inverted shihakusho that he'd worn as an Espada, both his scars from his last battle with Ichigo and Nnoitra were visible, his estigma still under his eyes, but no hole and no mask. It was, to say the least, weird as hell.

"Yeah, well, when we find out I'm kickin' its ass," he huffed in irritation, folding his arms over his chest and glancing over his shoulder at the Cubone. "I'm fuckin' human," he said it quietly, like he was worried someone would overhear.

"Hey!" Grimmjow gets to his feet and storms over. "Leave 'im alone! He's never gonna learn if he gets treated like a baby," and he grabs for Adam's shoulder, to physically pull him away if he has to.

Nevermind that Cubone was a baby.

"Cuuubone," the little creature replied, its waterworks petering out already, rubbing a little paw at its eyes. The Caterpie is, thankfully, just fine.

Adam flinched and pulled away from Grimmjow's grip so hard he knocked himself over, luckily not onto any of the Pokemon. He was more startled than angry, his heart pounding.

"Some father you'd be," he said, tone even. "You'd bully anybody, wouldn't you?"

He was, maybe, jumping to conclusions, but he'd already gotten attached to his Phantump and it was sort of like...well, it was a toss-up between a pet and family. More than that though, this guy gave him the same sort of vibes his father had.

[There's a mental nudge and the voice sounds like a contented cat's purr almost.] He doesn't have a name yet.

[Meanwhile Vonir is cackling in Flareon glee and scratching in the sand again. "likes you!" Then they're both signing at Thace, who chuckles and signs back before speaking.]

They report that he also dearly wants to grow and become stronger for you.

[ Luisa blinks in surprise, glancing at the Larvitar on her shoulder. ] Wait, really?

[ Larvitar suddenly looks a bit embarrassed, and doesn't look at her as h nods.

With a smile, she picks up him and gives him a hug. ] Aww, that's so sweet. I feel bad that I haven't given you a name yet.

In my experience, many pokemon see their trainers as partners or family.

[His sword actually ruffles his hair in a motherly fashion and it's his turn to look a little embarrassed.]

No time like the present. I often come up with several suggestions and let them choose which they like best, or none at all.

[ She bites back a small laugh, then looks at the Larvitar in her arms. ]

Well, let's see...I think I remember something about mountains with you guys, right? Maybe Aarón?

[ Larvitar frowns, and shakes his head. ]

No? Okay, let's see...how about Óliver? It's a name that means "warrior".

[ Larvitar makes a so-so gesture. ]

So something like that, huh? Hmm... [ She thinks for another moment before an idea lights up her face. ] How about Sergio? It means "guardian".

[ Larvitar seems to consider that for a moment, before finally nodding in satisfaction, which causes Luisa to laugh. ]

So you're my guardian, huh? I guess that means I'll be in good hands.

[ ...paws? Whatever. ]

[Thace just watches this with a fond expression. And then he bows.]

It's an honor to meet you, Sergio.

[He's very serious about this.]

[For his part, Felix doesn't really care about whatever grand designs she may have; he just wanted to know whether she's from the same timeline as the rest of them or a different one, like Lysithea. But if she's going to be this cagey about it, it's not worth his time to argue over it.

Besides, once Claude finds her, there's no way he'll let her get away with this. The thought is strangely satisfying.

Still, the way she's condescending to him rubs him the wrong way. Seteth never spoke to him like that. He sets a hand on his hip.]

Hmph. I don't care about your deep, dark secrets, or whatever it is you think I'm not 'ready' for. Forget I asked.

[He shakes his head.]

If you've come here only recently, I imagine you might not yet be familiar with Pokemon battling. I wouldn't advise straying from the beaten path if you're not prepared to battle.

[Iwaizumi straight up has no idea what's going on. This weirdo guy must have been really low in the IQ department to not understand the things he was being told. And even getting to the point of trying to attack him.

That was fine. Iwaizumi's eyes narrowed and he was more than ready to smack a bitch. He could have dodged but what was the point in that? No way. He was going to deck him. Amusing his Pokemon was a perfectly good reason for knocking this weirdo on his ass.

Before he could make a move someone got in his way. Iwaizumi had to pull himself back so he didn't hit the stranger instead. And somehow he was irritated by this. He watched as the Weirdo was knocked down and stayed there, then shot a glare at the new Weirdo. If he was expecting gratitude all he got was a grumpy frown.]

I could have handled that.

The video shows a rather stern-faced man dressed in Hakama, sat under the shade of a tree.]

[Right on cue, a spritely little Cherubi hops onto his shoulder, promptly falls off, and spends the remainder of the video trying its best to climb up his back once more.]

The woman insisted that it is now mine, and that these creatures shall fight our battles for us within this world. But surely, she is mistaken..

[C'mon look at it. It's a piece of sentient fruit.]

She has also misplaced my blade. Report to me if you have seen it.

b: New Bark Town

[The video ends, but Byakuya can be found still sat under a tree within the town. His focus is firmly fixed upon the Cherubi in front of him, the two of them stuck in an eternal cycle as the Pokemon springs forward in an attempt to climb up to his shoulder once more, with Byakuya instead opting to lift the Cherubi off and place her on the ground in front of him.]

c: Route 29

[It is late afternoon and Byakuya can be found some distance down the road, away from New Bark. His eyes scan over the long grass, obviously looking for something particular as the eager Cherubi hops along beside him.]

...There.

[A singular finger points out to green leaves rustling between the blades of grass, the hint of pink seen between them. It is of course another cherubi, minding its own business.

Che! Ru! Bi! His own cherubi rushes in with no hesitation, effectively leaping on its foe and tackling it to the ground.]

Remember what you have learned. If your improvement is significant, I shall bestow upon you a worthy name.
