Krieg has this very vague sense that there's something a little "off" about Walter in the same kind of way that there's something that's a lot "off" about himself. Most normal people don't admit to cutting out the hearts of their tormentors and sacrificing them to an invisible deity. But then, most of his friends from Pandora aren't "normal", either. It actually kind of sounds like Walter has a bit in common with Maya - she was also raised by priests who were grooming her for nefarious purposes, and then turned around and murdered the shit out of them, too, when she finally realized what they were up to.

So basically Walter seems like a pretty okay guy! Definitely a lot quieter than he's used to people being. Even the more reticent people he knows on Pandora aren't so softspoken. Talking to him has definitely been interesting so far!
