Most people likely don't have the same kind of experience with being whisked into other worlds as he and his friends, so maybe he was just having a hard time adjusting.]

[He gives the attendant an "I got your back" look and turns back towards Chazz.]

[As usual, Chazz started spouting off a rebuttal before really taking into account the person who was addressing him or the very generous offer they were willing to extend to him. As he whipped towards the presumed interference, the tails of his coat whipped dramatically from the motion.

That ire ebbed when his eyes locked onto the other duelist, his jaw dropped as he sunk into a few moments of surprised silence.

Then he proceeded to go through a whole attitude adjustment before he found his tongue again.]

No way! You're Joey Wheeler! [~~You know- in case you had an identity crisis and suddenly forgot.~~] I've seen all of your duels... [..Or most of them] ... but what are you doing here?

[Absolutely none of them.]

Why would I want to start a new life when there's nothing wrong with the one I had?! [He was rich.. ~~by extension of his family~~, he was successful ~~as in he just won the Genex tournament~~, and he had everything going for him.]

Come again? There are other duelists here? Like who? [Don't say Jaden, don't say Jaden... LOOK.. they might be on good terms now, but he doesn't need that additional competition yet. Let him keep riding on his recent high]

[ it's been a minute for her, too. the last time she saw joey, she was telling him that she had to own up to her life decisions and left him to do so.

she glances off as he approaches, spotting him doing so from the corners of her eyes, as though she hasn't quite reached the point in her life where she was ready to see him again. she clears her throat lightly before he's close enough to hear and when he is, mai places a palm to her hip to try and push herself to be as confident as she always has been. ]

I might actually, depending on what you have and what you'd like to teach to them. I'm currently stuck in Goldenrod City due to a bit of bad planning on my end, but I'll gladly answer any questions you have. The name's IV by the way. It's read and pronounced like the number.

[ she's not even sure about its moveset. mai raises her brows as he releases one of the creatures from a ball and blinks at it. ]

( when he goes silent, she does, too. surely there's a reason and so she keeps to herself but stares holes through his soul because amaterasu is just watching him.

I have a.... well.. it's a small sort of fox-like creature? [The newness is almost painful, but he has not in fact tried the pokedex feature yet] Being housebroken would be a good place to start, but I don't really have a house.. so kind of a moot point. [What else is there to teach? Pets eat, sleep, and play on their own schedules] What about teaching it a few tricks like how to sit or play dead? [So so new] .... So that's.... 15? Maybe, but I'm not so sure about that yet. How much bigger can he get? Even if he's a kit, it couldn't be that much more.

( her entire personality seems to have done a complete turn around. she's diddling about on the ground because she can't flit about here and there in the air to express her glee at the small creatures! )

Can Amaterasu pet him? Please please please please please please please-- ( this is going to go on and on for a while... )

[IV's eyes widen slightly at Monsoon's words, but he has himself under enough control that he doesn't show any other reactions until he's sure the other's both out of sight and hearing range.

Only then does IV allow himself to shiver and hug himself tightly by holding his elbows.]

....That's exactly what I want to prevent.

[Nodding to his worried-looking Rockruff, he starts walking in the opposite direction.]

Let's go.

4. Four. It's a stage name, but I'm so used to it that I'm responding to it more naturally than my first name by now.

[If this mistake with his name would have happened in private IV would have had Reki's head for it, especially if he would have any reasons to suspect that that was intentional. But since written text is patient and Reki's speaks of just a lot of confusion, he can let it slide. For now.]

They generally already know how to take care of the basics like good house manners -- the 'my food, your food' case excluded. Try asking it to do those things. Most of these monsters seem to understand the human language good enough for at least basic communication. What kind of noises does it make?

[The naming senses of this world are so weird, but at least they can be useful sometimes.]

We-ll, I noticed that an alarming number of people were badly injured before they arrived here. Myself included.

[Brimming emotions clash with the overwhelming desire to keep-it-cool within Joey's head, and upon her greeting him just like old times, he has to fight hard to keep tears back.]

[He takes a few steps towards her.]

Things were pretty wild da last time I saw ya... so I've been wonderin' how you've been doin' ever since den.

[Realizing he's voiced a little more than intended on the emotional side of things he decides, screw it, and just leans into it.]

I'm missed da hell outta ya!

[Drawing close to her as he finishes the sentence he would then, if she allowed it, give her a hug.]

[Is he talking to Mai or her pokemon? Nobody knows. But IV's already bending down, one knee on the ground, and reaching out to touch Gothita.

Behind him there's suddenly a dangerous growl. IV's Rockruff doesn't appreciate the fawning over a stranger. Back off, rival!]

[ that's an understatement. things were pretty up in the air the last time that she had seen joey. there was no promise of a specific time to see him again when she left — even though she wanted to give him a time or at least let him know she wanted to see him again. ]

I guess that's definitely one word for it...

[ mai is caught completely off guard when he proclaims how much he missed her and when he reaches for a hug, her instinct is to shove him away just to see his reaction but she doesn't. instead, she leans into it and throws her arms around him in turn, letting herself feel something for once. ]

...I missed you too.

[ it's quiet but it's certainly loud enough for him to hear given their closeness. ]

As for the Duelists, I don't know exact names. I've only heard it discussed in passing. But there are others possibly from the same universe as you here.

[Looking Chazz up and down Joey thinks a minute and then clasped his hands together, having made a decision.]

[Joey had half been expecting to get pushed-away or otherwise get met with a quip or barb, so being able to actually hug her was a surprise. The way things had gone during the Oricalchos affair had left Joey with the terrifying feeling that he might never see her again, and he'd done his best to put on a brave face about that ever since then, so seeing her here so suddenly was both terrifying and wonderful. Hearing her say she'd missed him too was the last straw for his ability to play it cool.

Despite his best efforts to hold them back, tears begin to well in Joey's eyes and he can feel his voice begin to quiver.]

How'dya end up here of all places.

[His voice is wavy and quiet, but he still does his best to put a touch of playfulness into what he says. His actions betray his uncertainty however, as he hugs her tighter as he speaks; half hoping that she won't notice he's on the verge of crying and half out of a fear that if he lets go she'll somehow disappear.]

Uh.. huh? [An actual prince? No. Does he look like one? With that coat of his that's tattered on the ends? He wears it as a badge of pride though since it signifies his domination of the school body of North Academy, and his return to glory. When he dies, they'll have to bury him in this beat up coat] .. Duel Academy? [So he answers dumbly] You don't really look like any of your paintings... [but most Amaterasu's were in that outdated style where NO ONE looked good] .. and the Duel Monster's card based on Amaterasu looks more.. I don't know... mature and noble.

You don't know what Duel Monsters is? What.. have you been living under a rock? Everyone knows what it is.. [Chazz, she already said she didn't] He looks powerful, just my style. [Giving himself a push off the ground, he finally stops lounging dramatically and gets to his feet]

.... You just threw me halfway across the town and now you want to pet my monster...? [One shake of the head later] Ok, but if he bites you it's not on me.

[ there's a big part of her that thinks it was better to just shove him off and make a joke about it but given how they parted and this being the reunion, she's not able to help but hug him in turn. after all, she had at least told him before that she cares about him. why not prove it at least a little? ]

Oh, you know. I have to make an appearance in style.

[ she can hear the quiver in his tone and her brow twitches. she's not the emotional type ~~at least not in this manner~~ so mai isn't really sure how to handle it other than to close her fingers against the back of his signature coat to keep him against herself— for now. ]

[ it's her turn to push some joviality into their meeting to break through the tension. ]

( she's all too ready to discuss her mom's bust, it seems. amaterasu really has no idea what boundaries are. when he bursts out laughing, amaterasu can't help but snicker and giggle along with him.

he is smart with this, though. because as soon as she starts getting into a tizzy, he's on top of it and responds as though he believes her -- which is good since she's definitely the deity. ) ...ah! Well, that's expected. It is pretty amazing to meet Amaterasu in the flesh! ( and she's immediately back to being high and mighty. )

Is Duel Academy your kingdom? ( clearly, she thinks he can pass for a prince, it seems. she scrunches her nose, though, when he talks about the stuffily made paintings and puffs her cheeks. ) No one has ever managed to capture my essence and beauty correctly! It is most aggravating and if Amatersu ever finds them, they will pay for their transgressions! ( is she serious? yes, very. you're on her list, artists. )

No! Amaterasu has never heard of it. ( she shrugs but shakes her head. ) Amaterasu does not live under rocks but has sometimes slept against them! ( it's definitely the same thing, right?

she waves her hands flippantly. ) Yes, Amaterasu does not always know Amaterasu's own strength! But! Your baby Fafnir is so cute! ( she bounces about again but this time because she has absolutely no idea what the hell personal space is, she throws her arms around him and smooches his cheek! ) Thank you, thank you, thank you!

( with all that being said, she bounces over to druddigon and giddily holds her hand out to him in the hopes he'll let her pet him! ) Hi hi! Amaterasu thinks you are sooo cuuute! Look! You're as cute as Amaterasu's cuuute creature too! Waaaah, why are you both so cute!? ( she yanks fennekin into herself and squeezes her delightfully with her hand still outstretched toward the dragon. )
