Now, now, IV. Everything is pointless but that doesn't mean we shouldn't enjoy ourselves despite that.

It is - but even if nothing matters, that's no excuse to do things badly.

[He shakes a finger.]

Either it matters, or it matters now. You can't just have both at the same time without compromising your own words. But I guess that's just what people like you do.

[Perhaps it is. He knows things matter with this being some strange afterlife but he isn't about to admit that to himself.

So IV just gets a shrug.]

Spiteful nihilism. Ah, what's that candy commercial say... Something about "juicy contradictions."

[His expression does fall a bit at that last sentence though.]

"People like you?" Do elaborate.

[IV's eyes narrow and his lips curl back in a malicious grin.

He'd been about to say 'those who like to preach', but seeing that this is the first thing that seems to have left a deeper impression on the other, he's changing his plans.]

No, I don't think I will. It doesn't matter anyway, does it now?

[Alright. He'll have to give it to IV. That was good. Monsoon's lips widen back into a grin and he laughs.]

No, it doesn't. But that's the easy, boring way out of a conversation, boy. You need to dress it up more.

[For the "old man" jab earlier. He's not that old!]

Doesn't really matter if I do, or not, doesn't it?

[Nope, he's still going on about it.]

[What a wonderfully spiteful young man. Although he's going for the more childish route of things, Monsoon can't help but be amused. He'll fit right in with them.

The older man walks closer (carefully of course) to IV and lifts a hand to place on his shoulder. He doesn't try particularly hard, allowing the other to move out of the way if he wants.]

Not at all.

But with that mindset, you mustn't allow the weak to prey upon you. Could you really live with yourself if you were defeated by someone unworthy?

[Love, Hate and Fear are some very universal methods to teach a child, no matter what world is one from. IV has always known the more subtle terrors - and he had defiantly, stubbornly kicked and fought against each one of them, each time they'd come for him again.

He glares as he lets Monsoon lay his hand on him. He's rigid in a way that betrays that he's not being touched against his will for the first time, and that he knows that both flinching or trying to dodge the contact will only make things worse.]

Everybody is unworthy, compared to me!!

[Hate and Fear is how Monsoon learned. Since Armstrong introduced them, he's been able to see it in IV's eyes - the look of someone who's gone through extreme trauma. Someone who's had to learn to fend for himself.

The touch is gentle. He doesn't hold on to the younger man's shoulder, just eats rests his hand there. IV still can move away whenever he wants.

He leans over slightly as to not look down his nose at him with an inquisitive expression.

IV becomes more and more interesting by the day.]

Are they? Even in this place, where no one knows who you are?

[IV's teeth flash before he pulls out from Monsoon's touch by stalking around him haughtily.]

There's only one who can stand with me, and that person's not here!

[The albino opts to put his arms behind his back and fold his hands once IV pulls away, watching him curiously.

He knows he's pushing buttons he shouldn't. But if Monsoon can get him to open up a bit more, it will help him to figure out how to best "handle" him.]

That's quite the claim. Is this about your little card game or life in general?

...there you go again, asking about things that should be unimportant.

What's it to you that I think? As long as I can back up my bark with my bite that's all that matters.

Despite my views, I'm still as curious of things as anyone else.

I simply like to know what it is that controls both the bite and the bark.

I control it! That's all you need to know!

[He turns his back to him.]

If you are as great as you say you are in your world... then I look forward to seeing what you accomplish in this world, IV.

Let your true nature grow and flourish.

[And with that, he begins to walk down the hall, hands still folded behind his back, and his pokémon in tow.]

[IV's eyes widen slightly at Monsoon's words, but he has himself under enough control that he doesn't show any other reactions until he's sure the other's both out of sight and hearing range.

Only then does IV allow himself to shiver and hug himself tightly by holding his elbows.]

....That's exactly what I want to prevent.

[Nodding to his worried-looking Rockruff, he starts walking in the opposite direction.]
