Yo! For real, dat's exactly what I thought when I came in here. At first I thought it might be dose' Big Five guys again, but den I realized that der's nothing outright Duel Monstahs here. Every place we go has Duel Monstahs in it, so comin' into what's definitely a game world and not seein' 'em definitely sticks-out.

[Definitely in a conspiratorial state of mind now, Joey puts his hands on his hips and furrows his brow.]

I've had a minute'ta think about it too, n' da best guess I got is dat it's gotta be anotha game company. Kaiba and Pegasus might hate each othah's guts, but der companies' been workin' togetha for as long as I can remembah. If dis was a video game either'a dem had made you can bet dey'd be usin' all da monstahs we know. You'll getta see dat it's kinda close to it doe', so I think it's definitely someone who knows da game.

[Reaching the conclusion of what's clearly been an issue he's thought about for some time, Joey looks pleased with his the conclusion he's about to reveal.]

I think dat, if it's anyone, it's gotta be dat Von Schroeder guy. He's got a big game company all his own, and da last time we saw him he'd chosen ta make his own game and stop chasin' Kaiba's shadow. Lookin around I'd say der's a good chance we're standin' in his project, but I still ain't got a clue how we ended up here.

[He shrugs, admittedly stumped on that front, before changing gears.]

[That's how that works right Tristan?] Also explains why so many'a da monstahs here almost look like Duel Monstahs, but are just different enough not ta get ya in trouble. Hermos here is legit doe. He's busted up a couple'a da game bosses in here pretty easy already, and he's gonna be fighting a couple more next week. Dude's a badass!

[Just as he's going on about different Pokémon, an audible growl emanates from his stomach. Dueling was a hungry business, so why would Pokémon battling be any different? It makes sense to Joey at least and, as long as there's food involved, he's sure it'll make sense to Tristan as well.]

Ah geez... I just realized I ain't had anythin' ta eat since like... yestaday. What say ya grab ya monkey and we head towards da city? Der's some weird spa stuff der, but the foods pretty good so dat's what matters right? Goldenrod is da big place, but it's a ways away. Once we get der doe' you can meet Hermos and we can even catch some dinnah with him! Goldenrod's where da fun is in dis place too, so dat'll definitely be an improvement ovah the middle of the woods.

[ not to fret with the name usage, tristan. it was more or less because she considers them friends that she does this. also, it's a method to flirt with him in a way that most others wouldn't think of — not that he knows that. ]

Great! Should we go there and regroup from the rain? And, well, can you tell me a little about this city? I might need to find somewhere to stay a while, at least until the rain stops and I can get my bearings.

Yeah, let's do that. Violet City is interesting. There's Sprout Tower, which is supposed to be haunted. I haven't checked it out too much, since it's battling all the way to the top. There's a Gym here too. I think it's the Bug gym? Or the bird one; it's hard to keep them all straight sometimes.

He really earned his title, that's for sure.

Yeah, right now we've got this other situation going on.

( once near enough, she heads up toward the covered bridge and settles to take a moment to figure out what they're going to do. )

H- Haunted? That sounds really scary... I'd have to have someone like Joey with me to even try to face something like that! Oh! Huh, a gym... I hear those are difficult. Is there any place to rest like an inn?

Yeah, there's several places like that, and the Pokemon Center too. You can stay there free.

( being new, she doesn't really have a whole lot of money to spend on too fancy an inn. the pokemon center would definitely do. )

It would just be great stuff if the first thing he did after being returned to his true and proper form would be to break his nose. And not even from some couragous act on the battlefield, but instead from taking an owl to the face.

Even Duke Devlin used Duel Monsters for his Dungeon Dice Monsters, and he wasn't associated with either one of them. Seems like a bold move to make such a knock off... have we entirely ruled out ancient vindictive spirit though? This could still be some kind of shadow game, couldn't it?

No you can't, but how would Von Schroeder know anything about Hermos, huh? Do you ever think about these things in conjunction with each other? That guy was all about Norse mythology, not Greek... Atlantean.. whatever. [Not that he wants to burst his friend's bubble but Joey is sounding delusional to him. He decides better of naysaying anymore until he's actually met Hermos though. It should be pretty easy to tell if it's the same guy or not.] So where were you when he was doing all the work, hiding out behind a rock?

[The sound is a great indicator that both of the boys hadn't eaten a meal in a while...]

The monkey Pokémon did get tired of sitting still, and had since scaled a nearby tree and was leaning over from one of it's branches reaching for the flap on Joey's backpack.] I could definitely go for some good food, and I'm sure Chimchar could too.

So.. if you're from the future, is Yugi still a big name in the dueling circuit?

[As they near the mouth of the cave Joey starts actively looking around for the best place to put down a tent. Having to work around the fact that this is still a roadway meant they couldn't just set up all over the place, but there was still plenty of room to put up a good camp without making a roadblock.]

Der'll be stuff ya can help out with for sure once I get a little further-in ta makin' camp, but for now I'm gonna pull out a blanket and I want ya to get yaself warm ok? Caves are cold'ta begin with, and adding a scary experience like dat on top of things ain't makin' it any bettah an experience.

[Fishing out rolled-up camping blanket Joey unfurls it wish a swoosh. It was made of that dark gray-green wool so much camping equipment seemed to be made of and had a slightly itchy feeling to it, but promised a wonderful warmth thanks to its thickness and weight.]

Dis oughta be just da ticket. It's even a little warm already from sittin' against me!
