[This misassumption of his proficiency in dueling was due in no small part to his own encouragement of it. Maybe he shouldn't have pushed the limits of believability as he had but when you wanted someone to like you, it was hard... not to respond to that desire like a total moron. Besides, it seemed to be working so who was really being harmed here?

Feeling a sense of elation as she continued to pile on the praise, he stood up a little taller and tried to fight the dopey grin spreading over his features.]

.. And I'm so humble about it too!

[Don't forget that part. Seeing her kneel down to greet his monster, Tristan shot it an imploring look that seemed to say Don't do anything to hurt her. His relationship with his chimchar was still new so he didn't know how they were going to get along.

Chimchar for his part, also delights in the praise and returns the high five gesture easily with his smaller hand.]

That wasn't entirely what I meant.. [He breathed out with a defeated sigh, but he didn't bother to explain it further.] It's more than wonderful, it's terrific! Uh.. but I guess we shouldn't keep just standing around here with all these wild Pokémon just waiting to spring on us. You better stay close to me until we find the next town. [And... maybe stay close after that too. His face wanted to flood with color and betray him but he shrugged it off for now]

Say uh... how long have you been here anyway?

( none the wiser, serenity always believes him when he tells her that he's an expert at something, especially duel monsters. besides, he had did pretty good in that match she had been forced to be a part of. that whole thing had been a mess so she can't help but to understand the missteps here and there.

she giggles at him at the mention of how humble he is.

completely unaware of the imploring look and silent hope that the pokemon will keep her under the impression he's not only a great duelist but a seasoned trainer, too, serenity offers some kind words to chimchar. she also lets her palm meet with his for a high-five and if allowed, a soft pat to its cute, little head! )

Oh! That's a good idea, lets make ourselves scarce before something else leaps out at us. ( what was that? "stay close?" she's definitely doing so as she, boldly, takes his hand into hers and pulls him along to quickly get away from the shaking bushes. once she's gotten the pair of them far enough away, she turns on her heel -- letting go of his hand to do so -- and claps her palms together! )

It's nice to see you! Oh, I haven't been here too long... Did you just show up? Oh wait! Of course not! Otherwise you wouldn't be so good with your pokemon... What's its name, anyway?

[Guess he'd at least pick up a few things from watching Yugi and Joey duel. Still, that outcome could have turned out a little better for him.

He also is courageous with stunning good looks to boot.

Like Pokémon, like master - The Chimchar is only too grateful for the attention that is paid to it. It inclines his head to make it easier for her to reach it and coos it's own version of thanks.

Tristan was about to say that he'd lead so that if anything did jump out he'd be able to shield her from it, but Serenity beats him to it. Not that he was complaining as he felt her hand intertwine with his. He's initially so stunned by the familiarity of the gesture, that he nearly topples over when he's yanked forward. Catching himself he ran after her. It's over too swiftly, and all the warmth leaves his form when she takes her hand back.]

I jus- Oh, right. I've been here for a little while now. [Having to go along with the story to hold up his own] It's name? [He's not even sure it followed them. Casting an uneasy glance behind them, he spots the little guy scratching behind it's ear. Good, so he did follow.. but what kind of name can I give a monkey?! He simply had to come up with a name, and fast, or she'd question the validity of his earlier statements.] I've just been calling him Ape. [Which isn't much of a name. Well he's a primate with a fire tail.. so "flame ape". Man Tristan is bad at this.] I want it to be something that matches his personality, so.. I've been giving it a lot of thought. [As of right now. Not so much before]

( fortunately, serenity still considered him an amazing duelist in spite of the missteps and all. it was a high pressure situation, after all.

he's so very humble and modest, as well.

the cooing is absolutely adorable and serenity takes a moment to pet at him just to hear even more of it! once it's made clear, though, that they should put distance from themselves and the bushes, serenity takes tristan's hand and hurries away from the tall grass where the critters tend to leap out at trainers and other passersby. )

I knew it! That's how come you and your partner work well together. ( little does she know that that's the first time tristan has actually worked with the monkey-mon. she claps her hands together, interlacing fingers with herself and leans forward just a bit. ) It's super nice to meet you, Ape! You're a really great pokemon and your trainer is just awesome, too. ( praise, praise and more praise... )

[It was, and ultimately things turned out for the best... robot monkey aside.

Clearly, a perfect male, right here. Look no further. No, seriously...

The Pokémon makes a mental note of this reaction to file it away for future use. If the pleasing sounds garner him more attention then he should definitely employ them again. When the pair of humans take off, it's easy for the monkey to follow on it's nimble hands and feet.]

You got it in one! [Tristan was feeling incredibly lucky that his monster was so amicable to all this. Sure, he was going to have to put in some extra training sessions somewhere to make fiction into reality but for now, they were golden. A grin split his features and he lightly chuckled.]

Chimchar, chimchar. [For it's part the mon placed one hand behind it's neck all bashful like too.]

... And.. say since we have been here for a bit we'd be happy to help you out in anyway we can.

( the robot monkey portion is definitely her favourite bit. it's humourous that he would end up with a monkey as his pokemon.

100% best man, hands down.

with the shaking tall grass behind them, literally, serenity slows her steps so she can talk to tristan more properly. she smiles when he tells her that she's correct for her ( wrong ) guess at how long he's been here working with his partner. it's very lucky that his chimchar goes along with the ploy because it really is going to be a shame if serenity ever ends up breaking her views on tristan since he's such a great guy ( as previously established. ) )

Chimchar, huh? What a cool looking pokemon... ( she giggles softly at the bashful look the pokemon gives and smiles to tristan. )

Wait, really! ( serenity beams at her friend. ) You'll help me? I could really use some help figuring some things out like the PokeGear thing...
