[He shouldn't strut when he walks. It gives him an air as if he's up to something. Which maybe he is a little - to save his own ass. At least he stopped Serenity from running away.

His Yamask floats up and drapes himself over Marik's shoulder as he approaches the brunette. The ghost is wearing a smaller pair of his trainer's trademark gold armlets.

When he's close enough, the tomb keeper crosses his arms and gazes down at her.]

I haven't done anything. Joey's safe and sound.

[Maybe. He's not entirely sure.]

And is that anyway to address someone who helped you?

[The Yamask looks between the two, giving Marik a skeptical look. His trainer is in a mood, it seems...]

That's so amazing! I thought about trying my hand a breeding but I just thought the call of being a trainer was too cool to pass up. Joey and his friends are the best of the best when it comes to Duel Monsters and I'm, well, I'm not that great at it... ( a certain, er, "duel" comes to mind. ) ...so I thought I could try my hand at being great at this!

( serenity isn't the bravest of joey's circle of friends by far, but, after everything marik had put her brother through, she's not feeling up to being super nice to the guy — even if he did rescue her. she bristles as she clenches her hands into fists. )

... Thank you.

( it's not really the most friendly of thanks but it's what he'll get. )

[Radley smiles.]

I get that. Have you started the gym challenge yet?

Kyaaa!

( she covers her face when the pokeball splits apart and a large dragon appears. the flames on its tail illuminate and warm the area. she moves into it a bit to gather heat since she had been cold from the rain outside. )

Joey!

( it really is him! relief washes over her — her big brother is always there for her, even in the most random of cases like this. hurriedly, she closes the remaining space between herself and the charizard, essentially hugging the big lug. )

Ahh, no. I wanted to train Eevee up a little more first.

( she smiles in turn. )

But, gosh! It must be so nice to be surrounded by so many Eevees at all times! What a bunch of adorable little guys and gals!

[He'll take it. There's something satisfying knowing he's capable of instilling fear into some people. The corner of Marik's lips curls into a small smirk.]

You're welcome.

[... Said with dripping smugness.

He uncrosses his arms and moves closer but rather than terrorizing Serenity he pushes past her to look outside.]

Hn. It's really coming down... I assume you're newly arrived. Do you have an umbrella?

[He's purposely avoiding talking about Joey for a bit, wanting to get information from the girl first. It's a fair exchange, isn't it?]

( she furrows her brow at the response her sarcastic thanks gets but lets it slide since she was rude herself. as he approaches, she side steps to avoid him even when he passes by her. the rain has certainly become a problem, though. turning on her heel, she shakes her head when he mentions an umbrella. )

No, that's why I ended up in this cave in the first place. I thought I'd wait it out.

( she doesn't have much information to give but he's free to try and get something out of the younger wheeler. )

That's a good idea. I've heard the gyms are pretty tough.

[He grins.]

It sure is! I have 13 total. They're always fun to be around.

[The ones here look proud.]

Yeah, I've heard that too. So I want to be sure that I'm well prepared!

( serenity kneels down to offer her hand out to the few eevees he has with him and coos sweetly to them. )

Awww, you're all just so cute, aren't you? Aww...

[Hmmm. While still facing the entrance to the cave Marik slowly looks back at her from over his shoulder. His Yamask's tail sways slowly as he watches the rain.]

And Joey's nowhere to be seen...

[The smirk widens.]

I could escort you to the next town... but I'm not so sure I should do that.

Then I'm sure you will be.

[He smiles.

They all coo and warble in delight.]

This is Evie, Evan, Isla, Lily, and Ruby. The Skitty is Cuddles; that's the name she came with.

[He chuckles, rubbing the back of his neck.]

[The tail stops swaying and his Yamask picks himself up slightly to mutter to Marik with a disapproving look. The blonde grumbles and seems to deflate a little.]

... Ugh. Fine...

[He turns around to fully face Serenity.]

I know you don't trust me. I'm not asking you to do so.

But I tell you what. I'll show you some kindness. We can ride my Cyclizar and I suppose I'll let you borrow my raincoat.

[The Yamask nods his head, giving Serenity a small smile.]

"It looks like they were chasing more than just Carmen," At least from his perspective, and he suspected she might have felt the same way otherwise she could have just recalled her pokémon into it's ball and deescalated the situation that way.

It was at about this time, when his chimchar swung down out of a nearby tree to plop itself onto his trenchcoated shoulder. He hadn't thought of a name for it yet, but it seemed friendly enough despite that.

"You were lucky to make it back here. Were you traveling out there by yourselves?"

( it's literally a cuteness overload! )

Aaahh...! How can you stand to be around such cuteness! It's so lovely though. You're all terribly adorable, Evie, Evan, Isla, Lily, Ruby and Cuddles!

( the more he talks, the more she bristles and becomes exceedingly uncomfortable around him. she glances off and suddenly wishes that she had had the forethought to bring an umbrella with her. that's a lesson learned for sure. )

Nhf...

( what's up with the sudden change of heart? her gaze diverts from marik and she eyes the yamask instead. it's... smiling at her? maybe it has something to do with the change. )

...you'll give me a ride...?

( he's not wrong. she trusts him about as far as she can throw him and serenity is a petite, weak young lady who can't throw. )

...and borrow your raincoat?

( she suspects the pokemon on his shoulder even more now. )

...that ...would be nice of you...

( did those words really just leave her mouth vis a vis marik ishtar? )

[Radley laughs.]

It sure is! And at home it's always active. Eevees and kitties running everywhere! My Skitty and my Espurr hooked up and they had a whole batch a while back.

[Isla does one of her favorite tricks, standing on two legs.]

[The pleased expression on her face coupled with that melodic giggle is usually all it takes to unleash butterflies in his stomach. Had he the opportunity he would have told her that she was a sight for sore eyes but if they were going to get out of this unscathed then it was going to have to come later.] Don't worry, Serenity, I'll protect you!

[How he would manage that was anybody's guess at this point. Sure, he called out to his unfortunately-yet-unnamed pokémon, but he had zero clue if it would understand him or leap to action. The only backup plan he could fall back on was his fists, and he had a bad feeling the offending monster likely came with a wicked set of teeth.]

[Not one to be honest about his skill level when it came to trying to impress his best friend's sister... Tristan continued to feign his proficiency. That exuberant cheer made it all worth it] Well, you know how it is.. I always like to be prepared for anything. [~~What is he, a boy scout?~~]

I guess I did, didn't I? [Grinning from ear to ear as he cupped his chin and nodded approvingly. The chimchar, to it's credit, didn't immediately try to light his trainer on fire with it's tail. It dutifully scurried back over to Tristan's side after the battle ended.] .. but wow! What are the odds that we'd both end up here at the same place and the same time, huh? It's almost like it was meant to be. [That as bold as he dared to be, forever leaving his emotions a tad ambiguous.]

( when isla stands, serenity reaches to pet her head lightly. )

Wow, so you have a bunch of Skitties, too? I love them! They're so pink and cute!

[Isla beams.]

Yeah, they had a litter of five Skitties and an Espurr. They all are really cute!

( serenity has always been impressed with tristan's level of skill-- especially since she's gullible to a fault and still, somehow, believes he's an expert duelist. so he must also be an expert trainer, right? it certainly seems that way when the applin scuttles off as though it's been properly spanked into submission. )

You did great, Tristan! But, I should've known you would because you always do!

( praising him came naturally to the younger wheeler because she always thought that he was a pretty darn cool guy. she crouches down and offers her hand to the chimchar for a high-five. ) And you did awesome, too!

( supposing the chimchar responded to the gesture, she rises back up to her full ~~tiny~~ height and smiles brightly to her friend. )

Tristan! You're right, it's like we were meant to meet up here! It's wonderful, though, because it's nice to see a familiar face.

( she giggles at isla. what a cutie! )

I'd love a Skitty. Pink is definitely my colour and kitties are so cute. Skitties are the being combination of the two! Espurrs are really interesting though.

There's a lady in New Bark Town who just gives them away to good homes. This might be around the time of year when she starts having a lot.

Espurrs are definitely interesting. They stare with those big eyes, but there's so much going on behind them.

That's great, now how about starting with who you are and then maybe we'll talk.

[Not having saved her number into his pokegear yet, he hadn't been automatically given her name. If only Tristan had known to do that. He was dubious of the initial message since it claimed to have some information but at a cost. It could totally be a scamming opportunist.]

[Hey, at least some of that merchandise was coming in handy! When Tristan reads the message it's almost too good to be true. Maybe this was going to be easier than he thought. The fact that the sender offered up more names than Tristan originally asked for it lent credence to the statements.

Someone who looks like Yugi? Could he mean the pharaoh? Ah, yes. Someone might be a little before the time of that whole name reveal.]

That's quite a list you have there. You mean all of those guys are got here before me? [They would have had to, for someone to already be so familiar with them.] You wouldn't happen to have their numbers on you, would you?

[Then something dawned on him...]
