[That's an odd feeling, having someone use his given name. He's been going by Mando for so long here that it almost sounds weird to be called anything else. But she definitely recognises him, and Din nods to her.]

Yes.

[Kando promptly KOs the Rattata with an entirely unnecessary Plays Rough. Her work done, she goes over to the Rowlet to introduce herself. Yes, hello birdie, you have a helmet person too, she sees.]

Almost two years now.

[He does notice the new pauldron. After having to fight and scrap so long to get his own armour, he pays attention to other people's armour in a way that is only slightly judgmental.]

You lost your pauldron.

[The painted one, anyway.]

What?

[The surprise is clear even through her helmet.]

But that’s…

[Impossible. She just saw him not that long ago.

Meanwhile the Rowlet cheers in its Rowlet way when Kando takes out the Rattata, its owner clearly unimpressed. The kid complaining about how that’s not fair. The round bird then strikes up conversation with the other Pokémon. Telling her all about her armored human who doesn’t seem to like her.

At the mention of her pauldron, Bo-Katan looks at her shoulder and then back to Din.]

Yes. [A pause.] You don’t remember?

Time doesn't move the same way here. Everyone says that it's like time stops back home while you're here, and then starts back up if you go back.

[Kando shoos the kid away. Get lost, buster, no one wants your money. Take your rat and try again another time. Then she turns back to the Rowlet, nodding in sympathy. Yeah, it's hard sometimes, the humans don't always understand how great Pokemon are. Don't worry, though, her human is on the case, and he'll convince the Rowlet's person that she should be nicer to the little bird.]

No. [Well, this is awkward. Best to head it off at the past.] The last thing I remember from home was flying to Tattoine to help Boba Fett. We haven't seen each other in months.

[Months, years, whatever. Time gets screwy when you start dealing with hyperspace.]

[There’s a long silence as Bo-Katan processes all of that. It’s strange, but she had no reason not to believe him. Still, a sense of disappointment hung in the air. After all they’ve been through. All that time they spent together, and he remembered none of it. She says nothing about it though.

The Rowlet trills sadly, hoping that Kando is right. Surely they’re supposed to be together. Look! Her face is even on the human’s helmet!

With shorts boy running off, Bo then realizes something is missing. She looks around and behind Din.]

Where’s your kid?

[Kando pats the Rowlet with one shadowy claw. Don't worry, she's sure the armoured human will come around! Maybe she just hasn't noticed yet that she has a Rowlet on her helmet.]

[Din shakes his head, his shoulders slumping slightly.]

He's not here. He's back in our world with Skywalker, learning how to be a Jedi.

[mywayistheway]

[Oh. Oh. He doesn’t know. Bo-Katan doesn’t know all the details in how Grogu came back to Din, but it’s clear his memories are from before that.

Seeing his shoulders slump, she reaches out to place a hand on one of them.]

You will see him again. Trust me.

[Obviously they have a lot to talk about. Later. For now she decides to change the subject.]

Since you’ve been here so long. Then you should be able to explain those.

[Bo now points at the Pokémon. The Rowlet blinking owlishly at them.]

[Din perks up immediately when she tells him he'll see Grogu again. He has no reason to doubt her, and she must be from a later time point than he is. This also means he doesn't get himself killed by Boba Fett's stupid desire to take over Tattooine, which is excellent news.]

I'm going to go get him, as soon as I'm home. I don't care what Skywalker says; I'm going to go see my son.

[That clearly established, he too turns towards the Rowlet.]

That's a Pokemon. [He bends down and offers his hand to the Rowlet, and she hops up on it.] This one must be yours. Look, she has a Night Owl face.

[Atta-boy. You do that. Go get your kid. An unseen smile is on Bo’s face, even as she turns to face the Pokémon that’s supposedly hers.]

I know that much.

[In reference to being called a Pokémon that is.]

What do you mean, mine? I didn’t ask for it. … But it does, doesn’t it.

[The Rowlet blinks hopefully at her with the biggest eyes she can muster. … It is kind of cute.]

[He is so going to go get his kid. He'll fight every Jedi in the galaxy, all two of them, to get his kid back.]

Everyone gets one when you arrive here. It's called your starter Pokemon.

[He offers the little owl to her.]

Mine was a dragon with a big horn on his face. Do you want to meet him?

[She hesitates for a moment when the owl is offered to her. As if a bit wary of the thing. Bo then reaches her hands out and Rowlet hops onto her palms, trilling happily. At the offer to meet Din's though...]

Sure.

[Because why not. This is a weird day with weird happenings. Why not indulge in it.]

Why do we even need these... Pokemon?
