[There is what looks to be a small robot (about a foot tall) bumping into Shuichi's leg repeatedly.]

Denki, don't do that.

[Rui runs up and grabs the robot.]

I'm sorry about them, they like causing trouble, and I haven't quite figured out how to direct their energy yet.

[The robot whirs a bit before a Rotom zips out of it, and messes with Rui's hair, causing it to static straight up.]

[Well, this was certainly unusual. He glances down to the robot, wondering if it is also a Pokémon as it bumps into his leg. He's watching it curiously when a voice catches his attention, looking up with an easygoing smile.]

It's no problem at all. Getting a team to work together takes time-

[Before he can finish that thought, the boy's hair sticks up with the static, interrupting his words with a short startled laugh, instead.]

[Rui also laughs at his newest pokemon's hijinks, now that he knows this stranger isn't upset. The rotom, now free from the robot, is flying around the area looking at everything. Or well, looking for something to get into.]

Yes, I've been realizing that. But I'm sure that after we spend a bit more time together, Denki and I will be a great team.

[Rui isn't even thinking about that in terms of battles. Rui will deny it, but he's a troublemaker too...Even if he is acting innocent right now.]

Ah, I'm Kamishiro Rui. That buzzing ball of mischief over there is Denki.

[Denki pauses where they were under the bench when they heard their name, before going back to trying to possess the bench (and failing).]

And you are?

I'm certain you will, it just takes a little practice.

[He isn't thinking of Pokémon as he speaks, but his own life back home. It's not as if unexpectedly finding himself with a new team was a unique experience for him.]

Minamino Shuichi, a pleasure.

[He stands to offer a hand to shake in greeting. As the rotom tries to possess the bench, a vulpix pops out from behind it, jumping at the rotom excitedly. It seems troublemakers are drawn to each other in this place.]

Nice to meet you too, Minamino-san.

[Rui shakes his hand. The Rotom is quickly distracted by the Vulpix and and bobs up and down in response before holding out one of their lightning bolt looking appendages towards the vulpix with a grin (they plan on shocking the vulpix a little).]

I take it you're not from around here either?

Please, Shuichi is just fine!

[The vulpix continues to jump, dodge and weave around the rotom, lifting a paw to bat at it when the rotom extends an appendage. She doesn't trust it, but might be too curious to know any better.]

I am not. I've only just arrived not too long ago, still getting to know the area, if I'm being honest.

Shuichi-kun, then. It's a bit hard to get used to, isn't it? There's nothing like Pokemon back home...Well, outside of video games, that is.

[Rui doesn't let himself think too hard of his real hang up with changing worlds right now, but his smile does slip into something sadder for just a second, before he puts a happier face on.]

But that just means that there's so much here to learn and explore, doesn't it?

[As soon as the vulpix bats at the appendage, Denki shocks her with a weak Thundershock. They were more aiming to startle than hurt, and when they're done they zip around the vulpix, making a sound that Rui assumes is a laugh.]

Denki! This isn't a battle, you shouldn't do that.

[He watches Rui quietly at that, discerning from his behavior that he was likely a human with no awareness of Spiritual or Demonic entities. The other boy's sadness was clearly evident, but he wasn't one to bring attention to that sort of thing. He's very consciously trying not to make it sound like they'd be trapped on this world indefinitely, but he hadn't seen any positive signs that it was likely to be a short visit, and he's trying to make the best of it, himself.]

Why, yes. I suppose it does. It's going to be a real adventure working out the ins and outs of this world while we're here. However long that might be. Have you met many others since arriving? Strength in numbers, and all that.

[The vulpix whines in protest, ducking under the bench and puffing out a small flame in retort at the prank.]

Don't worry about her, curiosity might very well kill the fox in this case, she needs to learn eventually.

Not really. Though, I have been mainly focused on trying to get my own bearings here.

[Trying to add being successfully social just seems like an unnecessary addition to that task, right now. He rubs the back of his head.]

That may be so, but Denki should probably also learn that there is a time and a place for that kind of thing too.

[And when Rui's trying to play nice, isn't it. Denki gets a little singed from the vulpix's flame and flies back to Rui for protection. Rui chuckles a bit at that.]

Now, now, you started it. You can't hide every time something like doesn't go your way.

Understandable, it is quite a bit of culture shock. Things are not quite what I'm used to, either.

[Even for him, and it's not the first new world he's had to adapt to. At Rui's words, he couldn't help the smirk that crossed his features again. Subtly, he turns to start packing up his belongings, as if that would conceal his flash of amusement at the Pokémon's antics.]

You're right about that. Perhaps they'll teach each other a thing or two, hm?

Perhaps so.

[The rotom hesitantly floats back over to the vulpix and bobs up and down slowly. An apology, maybe? Rui does notice Shuichi packing up his stuff.]

Ah, are you leaving? I would apologize again for bothering you, but I'm actually not sorry, this has been nice. I'm sure Denki feels the same way too.

[He pauses to watch as the vulpix circles under the rotom cautiously, ears back and eyes never leaving it. Her mouth opens as if seriously considering another 'attack' before letting out a quiet vuul~ instead - ears pricking forward as she leans into a bit of a play bow position.]

Actually, I just thought it wise to keep things out of the cross fire.

[Truthfully, it seemed rude to have all his research materials out, as if he was in a rush to get back to it, but he didn't want to seem imposed upon and was far more interested in the current distraction.]

Have you eaten recently? I believe there's a café nearby if we head that way. My treat, of course.

[Rui chuckles, a bit relieved that he hasn't somehow messed up the conversation yet. He's trying so hard to seem "normal" right now.]

That's a good idea.

[The rotom spins in the air happily, and and bounces up and down.]

I haven't actually. I was a little too invested in making this toy for Denki, and I had forgotten all about eating. I've been reading the handbook, and observing, and apparently, rotom like to possess electronics, so I thought it best to get ahead of him eventually possessing mine or someone else's pokegear or something equally as important. I had been wondering earlier if they could innately tell what was electronic or not, but since Denki tried to possess that bench earlier, I'm beginning to doubt it. That being said, Denki could also just be trying to see what all they can and cannot possess, which I believe figuring out your limits practically is important.

[Rui realizes he hasn't actually accepted Shuichi's invitation yet, and rubs the back of his head.]

I'd love to go. Lead the way.

[Rui might one day come to learn he's not the weird one in this conversation, but for now they're both doing their best to keep from alarming the other - although for vastly different reasons.

He digests this new information about rotoms quietly, letting Rui lead the conversation as he explains.]

It seems Denki is more inclined to act first and hope for the best. Sort of reminds me of a friend from home.

[With the confirmation, he swings his bag up over a shoulder, waiting for the vulpix to run up beside him, nearly heeling at his side.]

In the mood for anything in particular? I'm sure there's a few restaurants in the area, as well.

He reminds me of someone from home too. [But he's not letting himself think of him right now.]C'mon, Denki, let's get something to eat.

[the rotom zips in zigzags towards Rui.]

The cafe you mentioned sounds perfect actually.

[There's a sadness to that, the missing someone that wasn't certain to be seen again. Rui likely doesn't have the benefit of meeting friends upon arrival here. Kurama doesn't comment on it, instead focusing on something a tad more pleasant, motioning as he starts along the path, just making conversation that hopefully steers away from painful topics.]

Café it is, then, I'm certain I saw one back this way. Have any idea in mind what you'd like?

Something sweet, and definitely no vegetables. Though I suppose specifics would depend on the cafe itself.

[Rui cheers up a little at the thought of sweets at the cafe. He really should eat something with nutritional value, but no one can make him, and he'll take advantage of that.]

What kind of foods do you like?

You're certainly right about that. I'm sure whatever is available here will be different in some ways from what we're used to back home.

[At the question, he falls quiet, seeming to consider seriously.]

I've never been very picky, if I'm being honest. I'll try most things once. What about you? You've said that you enjoy sweets, I imagine you have a favorite.

That's probably better for you than being picky like me. I simply can't do it myself.

[He will admit his shortcomings, but he cannot be bothered to change.]

My favorite food is soda candy, but that's not really something I can get at a cafe. But I can probably find some sort of cake or pastry that will suit my taste there.

It certainly comes in handy.

[Another smile offered at that, although he pauses when Rui continues. Did candy count as a favorite food? As they walked, the vulpix ran ahead, seeming intent on scouting out the cafe in question.]

A cake or pastry does sound far more plausible. Anything in particular you're hoping they have?
