honestly, Route/VR is probably one of the easiest SoL games to adapt to. It's very much a "you can do whatever you want/create your own fun" game, but the setting gives you a lot to work with. Between catching pokemon, the gym leaders, and various attractions thrown into each town to spice things up, you're never short on things to do! And with the reboot we get monthly events, unlike Route, so that will most certainly help as well.
Also as another incentive, I've been throwing around the idea of bringing in Athena once I finish plowing through the series :3a
