That's a fantastic way of looking at it! I've been here for over a year now, and there's still so much I don't know about this world.

[Rakka, honey, that's because you don't get out of Goldenrod all that much.]

[Excuse you? EXCUSE YOU? How dare you, calling the Electrode hiding under a bush cute! How dare you besmirch the reputation of the mighty DeathBall by calling him cute? He is terror! He is the night! He narrates all his own adventures in grandiose, Byronic purple prose, and the other Pokemon in the party like listening to it!]

[Blitz knows they like listening to it because he'll shock them if they don't.]

[Much like he's scowling ferociously right now and getting ready to shock this fool. Prepare to taste his mighty electricity, mere mortal!]

[Under the next bush he is going to find a small Eevee. Though unlike his own sleepy-eyed and content one, this one doesn't look all that chipper. Its long ears are pressed flat as is its tail, the very image of fear and nerves. It's also got a thin collar around its neck, with a small bell resting on top of the thick fur at its neck, so it is probably not actually a wild Pokemon this time.

Just a poor lost, terrified little Eevee.]

[It's fortunate that Matt thinks all Pokemon are adorable, no matter how muscley or loud or abruptly appearing in the middle of the path they are. His Eevee lets out an alarmed squeak and immediately crawls into the neck of his shirt to hide, but Matt just grins up at the Incineroar.]

Well, hi there! You're looking very, uh...buff today, ma'am.

[You hear that? That's the sound of Matt's heart breaking. Mimas, his Eevee, wiggles to get free, hopping down and padding over to sniff at the collared Eevee, letting out a curious chirp.

Matt's going to immediately sit, cross-legged, less intimidating, less of a threat, and dig out some food to try and lure the scared little Pokemon out of the bush.]

Hi there. It's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you....

[It's fortunate, then, that Mimas the Eevee is paying attention while Matt is busy sweet-talking a nearby Cutiefly. Mimas's long ears prick up, picking up the rustling in the bushes, then wiggling free and prancing over to the bush and letting out a challenging "'vee!!"

That gets Matt's attention (even though the Cutiefly is!!! So cute!!!), prompting him to glance over.]

Hm? Who's hiding over there?

[The Incineroar perks her ears up. She bellows something joyful and, like any cat, affectionately decides to headbutt this weird, shaggy-haired individual and his Eevee.]

[However, her trainer is not far behind. Him and his Aggron both. The latter charging ahead and skidding to a stop, tilting its big head in curiosity while Shiro comes jogging up behind the big metal dinosaur. There are leaves in his hair.]

Sorry-! She gets really... really into train...

[And then he trails off. Just. Staring across the little clearing.]

[The little Eevee shrinks back a bit more. It's nothing Mimas is doing wrong! He's just... a very scared little Eevee. He'd been with his trainer earlier when a sudden loud noise had startled him enough to take off running, and now he's lost and today is not shaping up to be a very good day at all!]

[Really, Eevee? Really? You wanna go? YOU WANNA THROW DOWN AND...]

[Okay, no. The Eevee is clearly a baby, and Blitz doesn't attack babies. Even when foolish, foolish pre-schoolers challenge him, he very gently knocks out their Pokemon and then ruthlessly steals their trainer's money. Perhaps this guy has some money he needs to be liberated from?]

[Either way, Blitz won't attack unless Mimas' trainer invites him to battle, so he stays under his bush, glowering and crackling with electricity. Don't you dare try and pet him, buddy. DON'T YOU DARE!]

Ooof! [Despite the fact that he's been literally headbutted by a massive muscle cat Matt's already laughing, even as the gesture sends him back onto his butt on the ground. Mimas the Eevee makes an indignant squeak, flicking his long fluffy ears and tail at the Incineroar.

Somewhere in between soothing his deeply offended tiny Pokemon and rubbing his forehead, Matt looks up and over and the world stops. There's light shining through the trees and there's a soft breeze blowing and everything is so still, and it makes sense that he finds him like this. It makes perfect sense.

Matt just smiles.]

Hey.

[Oh no, poor little thing. Mimas chirrups softly, stepping closer and nuzzling the other Eevee's forehead, then scurrying back to take a tiny bit of half-eaten puff from Matt. He scurries back, dropping it in front of the other Eevee and swishing his tail a couple times. There we go, all better! Eat the nice food!]

[Excuse you, Mimas is a strong independent Eevee who could totally kick your ass, sparky. He's going to twitch his tail and make squeaky sounds, hopping around like the Pokemon version of a chihuahua he is.

Matt kneels down carefully, tugging his Eevee away from the bush, then offering a little smile.] Well, hi there. Sorry, Mimas doesn't have very good manners.

[Insert indignant squeak. Yes he does!!!]

[Hey.]

[It's one word. One short little word. And it makes it feel as if everything's frozen. Simultaneously locked in place and cracking around the edges. Because he knows that face. That voice. That... constantly shaggy hair. Sure, it's older, leaner.]

[But that...]

Matt...

[Behind him, his Aggron looks over at empty air in confusion. To which his Haunter materializes, pulling up what looks like a photo of Pidge. Pointing back and forth between the image and the guy getting headbutted by the Incineroar. Completely ignoring the current emotional turmoil their poor trainer is rolling through.]

Hey.

[Sure you could, Puff Tail. Suuuuuuure you could.]

[Blitz eyes the trainer, squinting at him and scowling. He doesn't know this guy, but he has that vaguely nerdy aura about him that Blitz has come to know. Sigh... that probably means that Dumb Narrow will want to meet him. Dumb Narrow likes the nerds lately, like Small Yellow and Black Metal Triangle, so Blitz should probably bring him Shaggy Reflect Face nerd.]

[With a sound that's almost like a sigh, Blitz rolls out from under his bush. Yes, you are forgiven for your rude Eevee, new nerd. Now follow him as he rolls down the path and he'll lead you to Dumb Narrow.]

[The little Eevee's eyes flick between the other Eevee and the offered treat. He does like puffs, but he is nervous about accepting them from this strange Eevee. Or maybe it is all right? He hasn't hurt him yet, right? But then, maybe he was just biding his time, waiting to attack!]

-bos! Phobos!

[The little Eevee's ears perk at that familiar sound, and without even a last glance back, he suddenly darts past the other Eevee, a bit down the path and then it is a mad scramble up into the arms of a worried looking blond, shoving himself against the front of his sweater vest as if he is trying to become one with it.

Armin meanwhile looks a little surprised at the sudden comet of brown fur streaking at him, but he manages to get a good enough grip on his wayward Eevee, giving the other trainer a sort of apologetic look.]

I'm sorry. I hope he wasn't a bother. He got lost.

Claudia, by contrast, is a horrible fanged purple sky orb. She bursts out of her ball with a screech, immediately does a flip, and baps Ford in the face with a wing hard enough to knock his glasses askew. He sets them back on his nose with a fond sigh.]

Alright, Claudia. Would you like to destroy something?

[This is Claudia's favorite thing to do, apparently, because she screels with all the enthusiasm a round purple bat can muster. Show her. Show her the thing to wreck.]

You may want to move back a little, Stanley. She's... enthusiastic.

[Matt stands up slowly, Mimas the Eevee looking up at him, then over at the stranger. Aren't they going to battle him? Mimas sort of wants to battle him. Mimas is tiny and badass and can fight anyone.

But no, Matt is just slowly stepping forward, a little hesitant, like he can't believe Shiro's really there. Taller, broader, scarred. But there.]

I...I didn't think I'd... [ever see you again] What are you...doing here?

Oh, are we going? [Matt ducks down to scoop up Mimas in his arms, cuddling the Eevee to his chest and apparently not even thinking about the weirdness of following some strange Pokemon through the woods. He just lopes along, like a lanky oblivious noodle.]

Thanks for the directions. I was starting to get a little lost.

[There are normal things to say when one meets a new person. "Hello" is a good one. "Nice to meet you" is another. "It's all right, I'm glad you found your Pokemon" would be very suitable in this circumstance.

But no, Matt looks up at the newcomer and says:] Did you name him after Mars's moon?

[Don't worry Mimas. Haunter swoops in, probably explaining and introducing them all. Hi little guy, this is Kuro the team dad, Red the weightlifting cat, and it is Haunter! That's the Dorito they all look after.]

[Oblivious to this conversation is their trainer. Who literally only has eyes for the person he hasn't seen in... years. It feels like years. He steps forward, too. Out of pure reflex.]

Same... same thing as you.

You -- [You're alive.] Got taller.

[Yes, good, this nerd is malleable and knows when to pay attention to more intelligent parties. Blitz will remember this, Shaggy Reflect Face, and in his coming reign of terror, you will be rewarded for your cooperation.]

[A few minutes of rolling later, and Blitz leads Matt to a clearing. There's another person there, someone who is equally ignorant and only understands human language, and Blitz rolls up behind him and bumps into the back of his leg. Pay attention, Dumb Narrow, he brought you a nerd! Now make with the treats!]

Huh?

[Jean turns around--he'd been training with a fluffy Alolan Vulpix, who tilts her head and studies the newcomers--and looks surprised to see he's got company.]

Oh... hi. Was Blitz bothering you?

[Bothering! How dare you, HE WAS HELPING!]

[Jean neatly sidesteps, avoiding the arc of electricity from his Electrode without ever breaking eye contact.]

[Armin blinks in surprise at that question, not expecting it.]

He is.

[Then comes the smile though. An unusual way to start a conversation, maybe, but one that appeals to his nerd's heart.]

I think you're the first people who has recognised it.

[Mimas tilts his head to and fro for a moment, before letting out a pleased trill and standing on his tiny hind feet to reach up and pat at Haunter. Hello, very nice to meet you, he is Mimas the great and this is his hapless reedy man.

A hapless reedy man who is stepping forward too, reaching out, wanting to -- grab on, to make sure Shiro isn't just a dream. He'd thought this whole place was a dream when he first arrived. Maybe it is. Maybe this is what the whole dream was building towards.]

...I'm. I can't believe it's...it's really you. It's you. [HIs voice breaks, just a little, on the last word.]

[Matt looks a little alarmed at the electric bolt, which has scared his Eevee enough that it's darted into the neck of his sweater and is currently hiding there.]

Uh. N-No, he...led us out of the forest. Um. Are you...is he okay?

[Your Electrode has some issues, it seems.]

[Matt grins brightly, getting to his feet and scooping up his own Eevee.]

This is Mimas. I almost went with Phobos myself, but I had a goldfish named that back home, so. Mimas.
