[A pink haired, pink eyed girl is watching the display, a massive white beast of a pokemon with bright orange stripes trailing behind her holding shopping bags. If Maka's done her homework she'll recognize it as a Incineroar, though it's colors are not the normal colors for one.]
Has he had any actual fights yet? Or was that his first?

If Maka has done her homework, that's a funny joke--nearly every moment not spent training, Maka is reading about Pokemon.Pink eyes, pink hair, no big deal--one of her best witchy friends has pink hair, after all. A white bipedal tiger is very interesting as shown by the momentary pause where she examines it, tilting her head to one side.]Well... [Technically Jinx said something insulting about Courage, but...didn't mean to, exactly? It's not as though she's wrong, anyway, the display was very much unimpressive--if her Pokemon were a Meister, there would be some unpleasant consequences for cowardice, like death, or torment. Maybe both.
But since there hasn't been an occasion to bring up the more extreme parts of her lifestyle, nobody would know about that.] He did fine against some Metapod before, for the most part though I've been the one to protect him from wild Pokemon. Not that I mind that, it's just people seem a little freaked out when I ask if antidote works on people and so on.

as a closeted nerd, Jinx can respect that. The massive fire cat flexes proudly, always enjoying the attention she got from being a shiny. In the meantime Jinx listens and nods thoughtfully.]Been there, done that. I'm used to fighting threats myself not making my minions do all the work. But in this world it's almost impossible to keep up with pokemon power.
[She shrugs and pats her pokemon who purrs like a giant kitten.]
Not that we stop trying of course.

[Of course, it's very bloodless combat. Almost more fantastical or like an RPG (which Maka has also played). But they couldn't possibly be in a video game world, that would just be preposterous.]
It'll take a while for Courage to grow, but that's okay. I just don't have the advantage of being here that long. Like your...that's an Incineroar, right? It must be really strong.

...well maybe upgrade is the wrong word. It didn't exactly make us more effective all the time.
[ Miss Fortune lowers herself to Courage's level offering a friendly smile...but it's also full of fangs so it's hard to overlook them.]
Yeah! I've had her for almost a year. She's one of my most ambitious pokemon. That's why she had to be my choice to perform in the pokemon contest...wait have you been here long enough for that?

[Mild dig at the opposite sex aside, Maka kneels to be at level with her Rufflet who happens to be shaking in response to Miss Fortune's niceness. She hopes, maybe, with her right next to him the Pokemon will realize the cat is just being friendly and not intending to eat the bird.]
It's okay, Courage, she's not gonna hurt you. --Um, a couple of weeks? I usually head to whatever bookstore or library when I come to a new town, though, so if that was on TV I would have missed that. It sounds fun, she probably did a really cool performance right?

[She treasures her friends, honestly she does.]
Pfft, OK you and I are gonna get along just fine.
[Jinx too basically threw herself into books on her first week, but they were all in the Team Rocket Library.]
It's super fun. It's like...instead of battling you can choreograph and perform using your pokemon's attacks. Ms. Fortune was a natural.
[Ms. Fortune purrs louder and offers the Rufflet a thumbs up praising in the language of the pokemon.]
Someday you'll be a big shot too kid. Just gotta find your backbone!
