Haven't... left?

[Okay no Matt you're having crazy talk.]

Yeah, I have. I haven't been at the Garrison for a year now.

Not left the Garrison, dumbass. Left Earth.

[It's as fond as an insult can be.]

It's complicated. Honestly, Shiro's probably better at explaining than me. You know how rambly I get when I try to explain complicated shit that isn't science.

Wait.

[He blinks slowly because new information always takes him a few seconds to register.]

What. I-- That doesn't even make sense. It makes less sense than this place.

So. Shiro and I were captured on Kerberos. The Garrison were a bunch of dumbasses and said that it was pilot error, which is obviously BS because Shiro wouldn't do that, and then Shiro got free after a while and ended up crashlanding back on Earth, and you and some Garrison people including my sister, who was a sneaky little so and so, saved him, and you all accidentally left on a flying blue metal lion.

[And that's not even the most unbelievable part, Keith.....]

... told you Shiro would be better.

[Matt probably recognizes the look Keith gets when he just got handed a lot of information and is trying to make sense of it. He got it a lot in his Garrison classes and he's having it now, staring at his screen.

He's quiet for a long moment before he covers his face with one hand.]

Yep. Definitely a dream. Finally happened, I cracked.

... nice to know your dream version of me is still rambly and nuts.

Keith... this is real. I promise you. I don't even know how to convince you of that.

I don't know either.

[But he's on his way to the hotel in Cherrygrove Shiro told him about.]

I'm going to try to sleep or something. If I wake up in the shack, I know it was a dream. If I wake up here again then it's real.

Where are you? Do you want some company? I can find my way to... wherever you are.

[There's an extremely tiny wistful tone to his voice.]

I mean... if you don't want company, that's ok. Also, I told you that shack was a terrible idea. You could have gone to talk to Mom. She was quite fond of you.

[Matt don't do that to him, what's left of his heart might break.]

I'm on my way to Cherrygrove. Shiro mentioned a hotel or something.

[He's not going to talk about Matt's mom, he can't.]

Yeah. You should look for a place called the Pokemon center. Just ask if you get lost. I'll... meet you there?

[He'll find a way, damnit.]

I mean... if you want.

I- yes. [He stumbles in his words a little, clearly overwhelmed but taking the help.]

That's where he told me to go. Meet you there.

[Not long after Keith gets into the Pokemon center, Matt comes in the door, wearing a white lab coat, jeans and a 'Sevii Observatory' polo shirt. He's taller than he was, more filled out in the shoulders and chest, and looks more than a bit world-worn.]

Keith?

[Keith is still looking around, still confused and not sure what to make of this but -- He looks at Matt. Sees the changes and that's not the nerd he knows.]

Matt, you're... What happened to you.

Time. And Aliens.

[He takes a breath.]

Let's... find a room. It'll be easier to explain when we're not in public.

[Keith nods.] I don't really get the currency they told me for a night stay. But if you do then...

[Like old times.]

I got it. Don't worry.

[He smirks, shaking his head.]

Just like it's always been, eh? Me with the job and money, and you just riding on my coattails.

[It's extremely fond, he promises.

Before long, they're settled in a room, Matt going to sit on the bed like usual.]

[The corner of Keith's mouth turns up in a little smirk at that but he follows along. He's still got his litten in his arm and once they're in the room, it's clamoring to get out and explore.]

Hey- come on, be careful. [That's a losing battle. The litten gets away and starts chirping around the room exploring. Keith in turn sits in the nearby seat and really looks Matt's face over. It's so ... different.]

So... You're here.

[Matt smiles, rummaging in his bag, and pulling out a pokeball of his own. Tossing it, a Spheal comes out, rolling around the room, and over to the Litten, cheerfully chattering a greeting. Hi friend!]

Be nice, Kerberos. He's probably a bit nervous.

[Turning back to Keith, Matt just nods.]

Yeah. I'm here. And I'm at home too. Not on Earth at home, but... alive.

[Boy that's a .... a thing. It looks like a little whale. Something! It's weird, and the litten looks unsure of it, starting to sniff at Spheal.]

Okay you mentioned aliens. And leaving Earth, what are you talking about.

[Kerberos rolls to the side, after smiling a bit doofily at the Litten. He smells like the ocean and fish.

Matt takes a breath and sits up.]

Alright. So. I'm assuming you know that the Kerberos mission went pear-shaped. It wasn't because of anyone making a mistake or anything malfunctioning. We were literally abducted by aliens. Big, purple cat-and-lizard aliens called the Galra. They're... pretty much imperialistic assholes bent on taking over the galaxy.

They caught Dad, Shiro, and I, and made us slaves. We all got separated, and Shiro broke out eventually, I broke out eventually... and I don't know where Dad is.

[There's a moment of pain on Matt's face and he clings to his knee without thinking about it.]

[He's listening intently, hands clenched together and elbows on his knees. His eyes go hard by the end, remembering something that pissed him off at the time; a banked fire that starts flaring again.]

Iverson told me it was a pilot error, and I didn't believe it for a second. He wouldn't let anyone see the reports.

[He misses the look, just for a second thinking back to those last few weeks at the Garrison before he was... escorted out. How many arguments he had before it escalated.]

But you're both safe.

Neither did Pidge. She disguised herself and snuck into the Garrison under an assumed name.

[There's an amused pride in Matt's voice as he talks about his sister.]

We are now. I got connected with some of the rebels, and Shiro... well, he's out there leading the flagship group that's restoring hope to everyone.

She's probably why they beefed up security.

[But Matt seems okay? Almost happy, even, considering the circumstances. Probably more to do with this place than anything.]

That... Sounds like something he'd do. [There's a tiny bit of pride in that.] Probably doing a lot of good out there.

Probably. Then again, she has hacked into their files multiple times. I wouldn't be surprised if she'd break through just about anything they could come up with.

[A pause, and a smile. There's also pride in his voice as well.]

Oh, definitely. He's a hero to a lot of people.

[As are you. Even when you're prickly and grouchy.]

[He nods.] I'm glad. He was always too big for the Garrison anyway.

[He looks back to his litten, pawing at spheal now clearly having more fun with it than being nervous anymore.]

You said something about me leaving.
