Same here. I have had a chance to do some reading, though, and Tesla here's been a great deal of help with acclimating myself to the local technology.

Near as I can tell, we're on a version of Earth where most of the culture revolves around catching the local fauna, and in some cases the flora. Apparently it's for the purpose having them battle each other.

[Egon looks over Ray's shoulder at the Rotom, then back at his solosis. Seems like everyone has one of these.]

That sounds terribly violent. The fauna certainly are interesting, what special qualities do they have?

Not as violent as you might think, oddly enough. Apparently the worst that can happen under normal circumstances is an easily remedied state of unconsciousness.

Which is surprising, given what they're capable of. There's about 18 different elemental types that one of these guys can be. Fire, Grass, Water, Electric, Normal, Fighting, Dark, Steel, Ice, Psychic, Flying, Poison, Ground, Rock, Bug, Dragon, Fairy, and you're going to love the last one: Ghost.

And they can use those elements for various attacks. They don't even need to be the same type.

The especially fascinating bit? It all works in a sort of complex rocks-paper-scissors configuration. Depending on their typing, Pokémon are defensively weak against certain attacks but strong or sometimes outright immune against others. For instance: Tesla is Ghost and Electric, and I believe your friend here is Psychic. If we had a battle, Tesla's Ghost-typing would give him the advantage.

Hm.

[Egon nods along, listening intently. At least things make sense, there's an order to him. And maybe he's not in too much danger, as long as he doesn't go about picking up rats with his bare hands again.]

[He takes the Solosis gently by the sides and holds him, out of the same habit that makes him hold Slimer that way.]

There's an entire classification of animals that are ghosts?

[Oh, he's going to have a good time here.]

I'll have to look further into this. Squashy here was just following me around from the moment I arrived.

A rattata. It's just a giant purple rat as far as I'm concerned.

[He nods his head over in the direction of the city.]

Here, follow me. I'll take you to a doctor.

Right.

[He's used to his rats big, ugly, and maybe faintly greenish- he did live in Nee York after all. These things were just strange.]

[He lets out a short little sigh and goes to follow.]

[The older man pauses for a moment before offering his uninjured hand.]

I'm Dr. Egon Spengler.

I'm Boone.

[He takes the hand and shakes it, then starts walking towards Cherrygrove.]

You can't have been here long, if you don't know what a rattata is. I only just learned, myself.

No, I just arrived.

I'm trying to figure out all these strange animals, that's the largest difference from home.

[Aside from all the greenery. He's far more used to the city, at this point. And every weird thing he came across being hostile. Most of the animals thus far were not, when he wasn't harassing them. Squashy didn't care either way, he was just happy to be here.]

You arrived from somewhere else too?

Yeah, they're pretty strange. Was confused as hell when I came outta that house and found a scorpion following me around.

[But he's fine with the little guy now. He's even starting to enjoy his company.]

Came here from the Mojave, not sure if you've heard of it. Only been here about a week.

The Mojave desert? Yes, I've been once or twice. I'm from New York.

[At least things seem nice. It should be good to have company, if he's lost the other Ghostbusters. He will look very closely at the strange scorpion as they walk.]

New York?

[He doesn't know where that is. It's probably named something completely different in his time.]

Gonna assume you haven't been to the Mojave I'm from. Turns out people come from different worlds here, and mine is after a nuclear war.

...really?

[Okay, that's not... too out there, since he's from another universe than this one. He glances over, trying to appraise Boone.]

A nuclear war?

[They were in the middle of the cold war, that was a terrifying thought.]

Yeah. 200 years afterwards. Place is a wasteland filled with all kinds of things that wanna kill you. Pretty different from here.

[He realises that nobody else seems to come from after a nuclear war, so he might as well explain what's it's like.]

[Egon is staring, and he's actually stopped.]

When... did this happen?

October 2077. We call it the Great War. Every country with nukes launched them at the same time. Apparently it took about two hours for the world to be destroyed.

[He wasn't there, obviously, but those who were unfortunate enough to turn into ghouls there and then would know.]

[Well, he'd be long dead by then. Egon breathes a short, uneasy sigh of relief- even if that's still a terrifying thing to hear.]

That's long after my time.

Oh yeah? What time are you from?

[Boone looks over curiously, eyes flicking between Egon and his pokemon.]

1985.

[He shrugs slightly nervously, thinking about the world being wiped out, New York off the face of the map- it's something he'd been trying to prevent on several occasions.]

That's... pretty far back. What's the world like back then?

[He's never met anyone from so far back in the past.]

[hauntpadour]

It was... I don't know what I have it to compare to. New York was a massive city, one of the most populace in the US, lots of skyscrapers. I worked at a university, I hunted ghosts and other entities that harmed people- what is your time like?

You hunted ghosts?

[That's... strange.]

Not sure what to compare it to, either. Guess a word you could use is... barren. Lots of creatures and people around that wanna kill you, like I said. Still places that are pretty irradiated. We've got creatures like this- [he points to his Skorupi] -but they're usually bigger and more aggressive. Was pretty confused when this one turned out to be friendly.

I did, it was a fascinating and fulfilling job.

[Not that many believed in it.]

So, the US has become a wasteland of mutant monsters?

[thumbsdown]

Didn't know ghosts existed.

[But he won't rule it out, since he didn't know people could warp into other worlds, either.]

Yeah, pretty much. So this is pretty different to what I'm used to.

I'd say so...

[He does not like the idea, but alright. It could be worse. Boone himself could be a horrifying mutant.]

They do, but their activity and origin varies by quite a bit.
