[As the boy continued to push to get Hope to fight him, a blast of icy wind would slam into him and knock him backwards followed by a short burst of flames. Two Vulpix, one red and the other white, stood on either side of Hope looking particularly unimpressed with the situation while their trainer approached from behind the young man.]

If you're looking for a fight, I'll take you on but I have a feeling you'll be outmatched.

[Shoto stopped to the left of Hope, on the side that his Alolan Vulpix was on, hands in his pockets.]

He said no, so you should leave.

[Hope was startled at the sudden icy wind and heat, so was his pokemon who fell off his head in the process. Hope caught him and held him close, before turning to see just who interrupted them.

He blinked at the sight of two different Vulpixes, with a boy whose hair seemed to match and a burn scar on his face. The trainer who tried to challenge him looked rather nervous and decided it wasn't worth it.]

Tch, whatever, I'm going! Two on one isn't fair...

[Hope watched the boy leave for a moment and then exhaled in relief.]

Thank you. It's been happening a lot. [He let Minccino down to greet the two Vulpixes and he nodded to them as well.] Thank you two as well.

[Shoto watched the kid go, expression relaxing once he was sure he wasn't going to try something stupid. His gaze shifted to Hope and he nodded to the other young man.]

You're welcome. I've run into quite a few stubborn kids as well. [He didn't have any hesitation fighting them, though, so it wasn't too much of an annoyance for him.

But this guy had said no and the kid still persisted.

Castor and Polar both gave Hope yips in response to his thanks before greeting the Minccino when the other Pokemon came down to their level, the Alola-pix approaching in a friendly manner while the Kanto-pix just sat where she was, a little more reserved than her companion.]

You're going to run into people like that more often on the routes. You'll have to be careful if you're adamant about avoiding a fight.

[distantfuture]

I know. I guess I'm still trying to decide what I would like to do while I'm here.

[Leaving the Pokemon to greet and makenfriends, Hope straightened to face the boy directly.]

I'm tired of battles. And fighting. I suppose I could go into breeding, but I wish there were more options instead. [He rested a hand on his hip with a sigh.] I know the fighting is more for fun and everything... But I don't like seeing others hurt either.

[A pause and then he rubbed the back of his head briefly.]

Sorry, you probably didn't really need to know all that. I'm Hope. Hope Estheim, thank you for helping me.

There does seem to be a lack of things to do here if you aren't inclined to one of the main paths they have us pick from.

[Especially if you aren't inclined to fight, which Shoto can understand. His world is full of fighting, he's training to be a superhero back home for god sake's but his world isn't full of war or battles necessarily. It's different from what some might have gone through.

And he definitely understands not wanting to see others hurt.]

It's alright. I don't mind. [Shoto offers a hand after a moment of hesitation.] Shoto Todoroki. It's a pleasure to meet you.

I feel like there would be more choices, but for some reason we are limited.

[It's strange, really. Given that there were other ways to spend your time. But many chose to breed or train, especially those from another world.

He takes the offered hand for a firm shake.]

You as well. Have you been here long?

[Shoto frowned.]

Extremely limited. It's like we're suppose to be following some sort of script.

[At least, that's how it felt. Especially after that whole 'Mom' business which...had not sat well with him.

At all.]

Just over two weeks now. [Releasing the other's hand, Shoto tucked his back into his pockets.] You?

[The 'Mom' business was something he would rather forget ever happened. His mother was dead and he watched it happen.]

A week, I think. Most of it was just traveling, so I hadn't had the chance to learn more about this place. Is there a library around here, at least?
